THE INDUSTRIAL ARCHITECTURE IN PORTUGAL IN THE TWENTIETH CENTURY:
FOR (RE)COGNITION OF THE JUNTA NACIONAL DO VINHO’s COOPERATIVE WINERIESThesis in Architecture (M.Arch); Advisor: João Rocha (Ph.D); Discussant: Tiago Castela (Ph.D); 2010-12
This work brings together, in an unprecedented way, a critical assessment and a register creation of the cooperative wineries network established by the extinct Junta Na-
cional do Vinho (National Wine Board), a corporate organism of the Estado Novo.
Constituted by 67 wineries that were built from the years 1940s to 1990s, spread throughout the whole Portuguese territory, this is the first comprehensive research devoted
to the Estado Novo and its ‘architecture in viniculture’ paradigm, which is facing a progressive extinction, degradation and disqualification.
RECUPERATION OF MILLS AT ALFERREIRA AND BARROCAS RIVERSIDE GAVIÃO, PORTUGAL Public Competition 2º Prize in collaboration with Architect Ana Silva; 2011
The idea behind the recuperation of these watermills, in an area with such distinct morphologies and diverse relationships with the natural environment, is to use them as
a mean to promote a wider integration of these distinct areas in order to bring about a new territorial scale. The rehabilitation of the area’s physical and social conditions is
part of the project.

INTERPRETIVE CENTER FOR THE ALHAMBRA GRANADA, SPAIN
Proyectos V (1semester); Prof. Francisco Ibanez; 2008
The exercise consisted in the development of an interpretation center for the Alhambra in its northern slope, based on a vacant pre-existence.
It was decided to apply a depurative treatment in the building, an early twentieth century hotel, by removing the elements that were added over the time, to enable the recep-
tion of the new program.
The intention of was to (re) establish the pathways between the River Darro´s banks, enhancing a continuity to access the Alhambra. Using the local authority’s place strategy
of high slope contention in order to allow for the maintenance of local’s livelihood, the retaining walls form a base that signals the end of the slope and articulates the program.

CULTURAL E RESIDENCIAL COMPLEX ÉVORA PORTUGAL
Projecto IV; Prof. João Nasi Pereira; 2007
As part of a strategy developed for the requalification of ‘Evora’s circular’, the exercise is important in the urban development as it assumes a pivotal role in the city which is defined by its fernandine’s wall, a structure that caused a urban growth rupture resulting in a logicless and discontinuous territory occupation.
The College of the Holy Spirit is characterized by its courtyards and ‘arms like shapes’ that were added over the time but were never completed. This place stood at the edge of the walled city and now will be used as a place for new public programs, a library and a cultural and residential complex, and benefits from the occupation of the Univer-sity College in its premises and the scale of the buildings as promotion poles at the service of the local population. It is a “bridge” in the continuity and urban development.
