Library for 200,000 booksThe library for 200,000 books was set out to create a new hub in where ideas, education and knowledge can be shared. The location was in a forgotten, dark back road within close proximity to the Bullring, Birmingham. With a close relationship to the railway, I decided to incorporate long horizontal slices into the building, which reflects the construction of the railway track. The form in which the structure takes allows the building to easily identify different sections to which may relate to private and public space. Access on a vertical plane was used on the same axis as the cuts through the building.

2ND YEAR DESIGN PROJECT
HAYES BRIDGE
STONE, Staffordshire
three
four
THE HAYESThe Hayes Bridge was designed and constructed in the year 2011 by the students of the ‘Birmingham School of Architecture’. With adaptability and accessability in mind, the development consisted of a bridge to provide greater access from the nearby house to the adjacent woodland area. The timber was sourced locally from the woods in 2010, allowing sufficient time for the green timber to dry. Reclaimed scaffolding planks were used for the tread and grip tape applied for grip.
