Since the site is so large and bordered by two major corridors, I felt it was important to define the edge conditions while dedicating as much space to the interior park as possible. I did not want the courtyard to be isolating, so openness and access were very important.

These images show some of the various massing studies I undertook before my final proposal.

This design build project was an opportunity to work with real constraints in terms of funding and a client. The existing exhibition space lacked adequate pinup space, seating and gallery opportunities. The design is playfully done to make the stainless steel panels seem light and delicate.

Las Vegas CasinotelBuilding the 21st Century mega resortResearch/Diagramming, Process/Iteration, Representation, Making/FabricationAdvisors: Robert Somol, Robert McNaulty, Grant GibsonThis was a research and analysis project based around the evolving Las Vegas mega resort into a shopping and residential mecca in addition to the gaming and entertainment center it already was. The project began with analysis of a chosen existing hotel and ended with a proposal for a new resort.

This project analyzed the history and existing condition of the Chicago lakefront so as to create a proposal to connect and unify the lakefront experience. The objective is to create greater access to the lakefront and increase movement along the lakefront to a variety of new attractions and experiences.

Global FamiliesCreating a new global archetypeResearch/Diagramming, Process/Iteration, RepresentationAdvisor: Paul PreissnerGroup Members: Jasper Reyes, Thomas TumminaroThis project is an exploration of technique and process to create a new global style. This was a group project where we used Maya to develop techniques to manipulate architectural forms into new formal possibilities. Four cities around the globe were explored and a proposal was created for each containing a hotel, condominiums, office space, a market exchange and retail space. The four cities are London, Dubai, Osaka and Mumbai with each proposal reflecting some aspect of its locality.

Northerly Island VeloparkUrban cycling oasisResearch/Diagramming, Representation, Making/FabricationAdvisor: Paula PalomboThis park builds on Chicago’s history of great public parks on the lakefront. It takes the current unplanned aspects of Northerly Island and turns it into a new cycling destination with trails and experiences for all users.

PROCESSMy approach to creating architecture is research based and refined through iteration. Architecture is derived from process and exploration. I make to test so I may refine to create. Every project is different but my approach is constant. I look for patterns and relationships in the new and existing programs of the site and it’s context. My goal is always to create a meaningful and exciting project that supports and enriches its site.

EXPERIENCETeaching Assistant. The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Chicago, ILAs a teaching assistant in the Advaned Output Center at SAIC, I trained and assisted with the use of the laser cutters, 3D scanners and rapid prototype printers in the lab. Through helping students develop their projects and fabrication processes I developed a keen understanding in how to produce and represent a variety of designs. For two semesters I served as a teaching assistant in two design classes which taught me how to encourage and enable the creative process in others.

Studio Assistant. Sullivan Fabrication Studio. The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Chicago, ILAs a studio assistant in the Sullivan Fabrication Studio I assisted students with the construction of their projects. I helped them develop the proper construction techniques and educated them on the various tools available for use in the shop. I was also responsible for running the checkout system where students could check out tools for use inside and outside the shop.

Resident Assistant. UIC Campus Housing. Chicago, ILCreating a safe and supportive community in the school’s residence halls for students. Running community meetings, weekly on-duty supervising shifts, hall decorations, program and event planning as well as weekly staff meetings.

Architectural Intern. Alan R. Schneider Architects. Park Ridge, ILDrafting construction documents, file management, document editing, archiving and preliminary design work on small commercial and industrial projects.

Architectural Intern. Chicago Department of Transportation. Chicago, ILAssisted the project managers in the design and construction management of the city’s transit stations. I worked on the design of signage and plaques, presentation documents, document editing, archiving and note taking during client meetings and site visits.
