Interactive Notebook- Summarizing Fiction
Students cut out the picture box and glue it on one page of their interactive notebooks. Students cut out the Summary Sundae list and glue it to the left margin of the next notebook page. Read aloud a fiction book to the students, and then determine (as a class) what to write beside each summary element. In the photo below, I read the chapter “Bebe” from Sideways Stories from Wayside School by Louis Sachar to the students, and we summarized it together. (This is also done in my Summarizing PowerPoint- see Slide 39.)
