Preparing For The First Day Of School

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR NEEDY SINGAPOREAN STUDENTS 2016
– The Ministry of Education (MOE) provides financial assistance to needy Singaporean students in Government and Government Aided schools.
– MOE will be writing to parents whose children are currently receiving assistance in Kindergarten by Dec 2016.
– Parents/Guardians who wish to apply for MOE Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) could request for the application form from the school General Office.

• Filtered water will be provided for all P1 students. They are required to bring an empty water bottle daily.
• School books to be collected and placed in the classroom.
A. Preparing for Primary School• Find out more about the school through the school’s
website and inform child.
• Talk about the new routines - flag-raising/lowering, recess, assembly, school bus drop-off and pick-up points, timetable, and wearing of school uniform.
• Practise practical skills - asking for permission, buying food, organising school bag and communication between school and parents.
• Get child excited about new experiences, such as making new friends, learning new things or playing in a big school.
B. Preparing for Primary School
• Mentally prepare child about school, class of 30, class settings, subjects, activities, etc.
• Talk about personal hygiene & social skills.
• Get child to talk about his/her anxiety and fears.
• Pack light for Day 1 by following the packing list given. Include a packet of dried snack, if necessary.
• Talk about safety matters. E.g. not walking out of the school during school hours.
• Label water bottle, school bag and stationery.
• Advise child to approach Form Teachers/General Office in case of emergency.

Things to Note!
Sending and Picking Up • Parents/Guardians who drive their children
to school are:- not allowed to drive into the school.- to let their children alight at the back gate of
the school.
- to pick up their children at the back gate.
- to avoid picking/letting their children alight at the bus stop, front gate and main road in front of the school.
