President's Message April 2016 Welcome EMCC members to my first of many news articles. I want to thank all of the members who made me feel so welcomed at my first meeting as President on March 7th. More than 35 members attended to show their support proving just how strong our membership is. I have been in the club for twelve years and I’ve enjoyed every year. In the earlier years, I was less involved, but now I have more free time allowing me to be more committed. I have a few goals I’d like to accomplish as president including expanding our Facebook page and our EMCC website to keep members updated on special events, cruises, and current activities effecting our membership. Also, I want to continue to build on some of our incredible events. Our February anniversary party at Raffaels was great. This year we added a DJ, Trivia, and all enjoyed great food and drink. It was a fun night and a great way of honoring our outgoing officers and welcoming in the new.

==================================================Heard on the Street - April 2016

By Arne Johnson

From time to time “Heard on the Street” comments on EPA activities that may have an impact onthe auto industry such as the increased use of Ethanol in gasoline. Another battle with EPA isunderway by four congressmen who are introducing a regulation that would eliminate mandatingthat vehicles used in racing comply with EPA CO2 emissions requirements. The EPA’s 629 page billcurrently states all vehicles must keep emissions equipment in tact even if used for competition. The regulations regarding race cars has not been strictly enforced but the new resolution 4715 would effectively eliminate the racing industry from meeting emission standards. Of course those who custom build arace vehicle from the ground up, don’t ever include emissions equipment anyway so, in this case, the discussion may be a mute-point. Those who take a street driven car and convert it to a race vehicle are the main target of the EPA regulation. There is so much news lately regarding the Corvette. Most readers by now are well aware of the announcement of the new 2017 Grand Sport (see article below) but perhaps more striking is the 2006 Z06 modified by Genovation Cars to incorporate a fully electric engine. Performance when tested at the Kennedy Center at Cape Canaveral, FL was nothing less than phenomenal. Starting at a less than 3.0sec 0 to 60, the 700hp electric engine vehicle reached a top speed of 186.8mph. Its cruising range is about 130 miles. We hear that you can order one for $290.000 if you provide the Corvette. As if that isn’t enough, GM has secured trademark protection for the names of “Corvette E-Ray” and “E-Ray”. Looks as though we might expect to see a hybrid or a fully electric Corvette in the future produced by GM. To add to all the news is the increasing rumors of the C8 mid-engine ZR1. Rumors that are consistently deniedby GM but the leaks continue to survive for a release as early as 2017 with a possible sales price of $150,000.

More news to follow on this one.

DETROIT – On the heels of a historic 1-2 class finish in theRolex 24 At Daytona, Corvette Racing learned today that its

two Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs have been invited to this year’s24 Hours of Le Mans. It is the 17th consecutive season that twoentries for Corvette Racing are part of the entry list for one

of the world’s greatest motorsports events. As was the case a year ago, Corvette Racing will field the No. 63 and No. 64 Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs in the 14-car GTE Pro class. In it, the team will face a number of the same competitors as in the IMSA WeatherTech Championship as well as entries from the FIA World Endurance Championship. The full grid for Le Mans will bemade up of 60 cars.

“Being invited to Le Mans always is a special honor for everyone at Chevrolet and Corvette Racing, and we are fortunate to return as the GTE Pro winner,” said Mark Kent, Director, Chevrolet Motorsports Competition. “Le Mans is where the best manufacturers compete in endurance racing’s toughest test – a place we have won eight times. The Corvette Racing team has a long history of success in long-distance events, evidenced by victories like our win this year at the Rolex 24.”

Corvette Racing has won eight times at Le Mans including a storybook victory last year for Oliver Gavin, Tommy Milner and Jordan Taylor. They are back together for a second straight season; Gavin and Milner lead the IMSA GT Le Mans (GTLM) standings after their win at Daytona with Marcel Fässler.

There will be new trio in the No. 63 Corvette C7.R. Full-season teammates Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen – second at Daytona with Mike Rockenfeller – will drive with Ricky Taylor.

The two Corvettes will take to the 8.5-mile Circuit de la Sarthe for the first time this year on June 5 as part of the annual Le Mans Test Day. The 24 Hours of Le Mans is scheduled for June 18-19

EMCC Anniversary Party (Dennis Collins)

EMCC held its Anniversary Party on Saturday Feb 27th at Raffael’s in Walpole. A far cry from last winter as there was NO snow on the ground. The venue looked wonderful as it had just finished being renovated in January. It was well attended with about 65 members and guests. The food was delicious, the DJ was great, and the raffles were fun. Jim G. had a trivia contest for the group.

The outgoing Officers and Chairpersons were thanked by outgoing President Bill Schroeder and the New Officers and Chairpersons were introduced by newly elected President Steve Sylvia. Bill Schroeder and Dennis Collins received awards for their service to the Club. Jim McMakin was this year’s recipient of the President’s Award for outstanding dedication and service.

As you can tell from the pictures, a good time was had by all. A big thank you goes to Steve Sylvia and Bill Schroeder for putting the event together.

Thanks(again) to Judy P. and Mal S. for doing the raffles.

CORVETTE ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING By Mal Smith

Saturday, March 5th, I attended the events calendar meeting for all of the New EnglandCorvette Clubs which was held at Corvette Mike’s in Plymouth. The purpose of the meetingwas to familiarize everyone with the app “Corvette Anything and Everything” which is a freeapp and has information on all of the Corvette events as well as Corvettes for Sale, Corvette

contacts, Corvette parts.....anything and everything Corvette. If you haven’t downloaded theapp, it is time to do so. The app is updated constantly and has all the information available for

all of us Corvette enthusiasts.

Corvette Diva, Elaine Kemp, prepared Corvette Event Calendars and Club information spreadsheets for everyone. Also available were many flyers with event information from many of the Clubs. I will be posting by email the upcoming events for all of us as the season progresses.

I will have a pdf file showing all the events to forward to all of you by the end of the month. You can always check on the app for updated info at any time.

It was wonderful to share “Corvette Comradery” with many of the New England Corvette community. I personally have been a part of the Corvette community since 1978 and cherish allof my Corvette friends.

================================================== CWC Cruise 03/09/16 (Dennis Collins)

The CWCs (Cold WeatherCruisers) took advantage of therecord warm temperatures onWednesday March 9th and took acruise. We met at Bass Pro inFoxboro, cruised down to theCape Cod Canal and had lunchat Lindsey’s in Wareham. Therewere eight Corvettes in all. Notbad for March!

It was 70+ degrees back in Foxboro but right next to the Canal in was in the 50’s. Lindsey’s Restaurant had just reopened for lunch today after renovations. The food was excellent. It was great to get out on the highway and we sure attracted a lot of attention.
