We are not even 3 full weeks into Term 2 however given how busy we have been the Easter holidays already seem a distant memory. Heres a quick snapshot of what we have been up to3/4/5/6 Camp It is with great excitement that I can finally let you know that we are heading to Mount Baw Baw for camp this year. While we are sll busy finalising the finer details, accommodaon has been booked at WF Waters Lodge from Wednesday the 8 th to Friday the 10 th of August (Term 3, Week 4). Acvies that we have planned include tobogganing, ski lessons (including all equipment hire), snow play, tour of the snow making machines and an environmental lesson. I am hoping to be able to send home more informaon, however it may pay to start keeping an eye out for some snow clothing (decent jacket, pants, gloves and snow boots). Op shops, garage sales, friends wardrobes and even Aldi are all great sources of cheap snow gear! Senior Athlecs Day What a fabulous day the senior athlecs were last Friday. The behaviour and sportsmanship that our students displayed was exemplary – congratulaons to those who aended. Congratulaons also to Maddy Delaney who made it through to the next round of compeon as a member of a combined Prom Coast relay team, a great effort given the level of compeon on the day. ANZAC Day Congratulaons to the Toora Primary School students who did an amazing job represenng our School at the ANZAC Day Ceremonies last Wednesday. All up we had 15 students aend either the dawn service, 11am service, or in the case of Scarle and Ella B., both! Uniforms Uniform orders have been placed and should be here in the next few weeks. Thankyou also for all of the suggesons for items to add to our order list – I am currently working with our supplier to see what they can provide and having designs drawn up. Reading Group The Tuesday aſternoon reading group has been a great success, it is wonderful to see students stay back aſter school and engage in a bit of extra learning in the fun, relaxed environment that this group provides. A very big thank you to Carol and Jackie D. for organising and running this. 5/6 Leadership Day I was lucky enough to be able to take our 5/6 students to a Leadership workshop last Thursday in Korumburra. With over 150 students from around 25 different schools in the room it was slightly daunng for our group at first, however each and every one of them rose to the occasion. I am loving the opportunity to work more closely with these students; with such a small group we are really able to push and extend each of them at their own level, and every me I raise the bar they rise to the challenge. Well done Chea, Aaron, Maddy, Layella and Tom, I couldnt have been prouder if I tried! Have a great weekend, Mr. H Working Bee Friday 4th May 3:20pm to relocate the School Chook House

PRINCIPAL NEWS What a busy start term! We are not even 3 full weeks into Term 2 however given how busy we have been the Easter holidays already seem a distant memory. Here’s a quick snapshot of what we have been up to… 3/4/5/6 Camp It is with great excitement that I can finally let you know that we are heading to Mount Baw Baw for camp this year. Classroom News 3 - 6 Classroom News Prep - 2 Great to see students have had such a great day at the Athletics! I have loved hearing the reports of our students ‘doing their best’ and enjoying the day! We had our first lesson with the Year 9 students from Foster High this week as part of their ‘You be the Coach’ program. Our students chose one of five sports to have some coaching time. Netball, tennis, soccer, hockey and basketball were on offer. The group will return in two weeks. Following our work in the lead up to ANZAC day, we are beginning our unit on Australian history. First fleet, Early Explorers, Indigenous history will be covered this term as part of our Integrated studies. Student may like to do some of this project based work at home. Feel free to quiz your children on their knowledge, this should open up some interesting discussions as we explore history from different perspectives. Acronyms - Travel Number Plate Game! When driving, using number plates as acronyms makes for an entertaining oral language in car game. Read the letters of a number plate and ask your children to form meaningful words. Eg. (GEA-467) = Goats Eat Apples. Funnier the better! - Mr Whittle

Skate Park Painting Day At Foster On Sunday, many kids from most of the local schools went to the skate park painting day in Foster. When I got there, I did not know what to do. A bunch of people were painting and I was just watching until someone got me to help put up some tape so we would not paint on the other paintings being done. We painted different coloured triangles. While we were doing that, another person was paint-ing detailed stuff like Luke Sky-Walker, Darth Vader, Millennium Falcon and a Unicorn fighting a Dragon. Then we had pumpkin soup for lunch (I did not have the soup). After Lunch, ew did some more painting and signed one of the paintings with everyone else that was still there. My friends mum came to see all the paintings, and then I went home. By Chea

NAPLAN Testing Yrs 3 & 5

Information for Parents NAPLAN 2018 tests will be held on Tuesday 15th, Wednesday

16th and Thursday 17th May. NAPLAN is a valuable assessment tool for governments,

schools and parents to understand and improve the Literacy and Numeracy outcomes of Australian students.

NAPLAN provides parents of students in Years 3/5/7/9 with a report on their child’s performance in literacy and numeracy against the national average. Schools and teachers use NAPLAN data to improve teaching and learning programs in the classroom.

Later in the year, you will receive your child’s personal NAPLAN report.

For more information about NAPLAN, please visit VCAA website at www.vcaa.vic.edu.au and refer to the attached NAPLAN document.

Here are some photos of us enjoying our first kinder visit. Students loved working with younger kids, exploring, creating and playing. There was lots of great chatter and problem solving going on!

Narrative Writing We have been practising writing fiction stories, fairy tales and narratives. We have explored ideas for char-acters, settings and how to create a plot with a prob-lem and a solution. Here is a piece that the Preps wrote together: Scaredy Cat Bear Once upon a time, there was a scaredy-cat bear that lived in a forest in a cave. One night he heard a ‘squeak’. Scaredy cat bear jumped and ran. Right into a little mouse! He realised that the noise was just the mouse, and the mouse said ‘sorry for scaring you’. They lived happily ever after.
