I struggled with what message I would send in this months newsletter. With three break-ins in the couple of months that we have been in our relocation site, it has been hard to stay positive. Yet, even with adversity, we don’t give up. We continue to seek ways to ensure that our students have a positive learning experience, in a safe and nurturing environ-ment. We are focusing on good character traits. Character is the foundation for all academic, interpersonal relation-ships and personal and social growth. When good char-acter traits become life long habits for students, more success is possible at home, school, and later in life. George Washington Carver, an American inventor and botanist said, “How far you go depends on you being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged,

sympathetic with the striving and tolerant with the weak and the strong. Because someday in life, you will have been all of these. During the month of October we will focus mainly on the great character traits of kindness, courtesy, coop-eration, and honesty.

Red Ribbon Week is the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the country! Red Ribbon Week serves as a vehicle for communities and individuals to take a stand for the hopes and dreams of our children through a commitment to drug prevention and educa-tion. The ultimate goal is the creation of drug free America. Red Ribbon Week commemorates the ultimate sacrifice made by DEA Special Agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, who died at the hands of drug dealers in Mexico while fighting the battle against illegal drugs to keep our country and children safe.

Bullying is aggressive behavior that is inten-tional, repeated over time, and involves an imbalance of power or strength. A child who is being bullied has a hard time defending himself or herself. There can be physical bullying (hitting or kicking); non-verbal or emotional bullying (intimidating through exclusion or social ex-clusion; verbal bullying (teasing or name-calling); and cyberbullying (Internet or other social media devices). Create an “Act of Kindness “each day and challenge others to so the same!
