“I am the vine, you are the branches” was the theme
of Pastor Ed’s ordination.
Dear PoP Friends, Thank you to everyone who had a part in making my ordination service such a
wonderful experience. The worship, music, fellowship, and strong sense of
support from the PoP family and my fellow pastors was amazing! It’s a day
that I will remember and treasure for a lifetime. As I begin this new ministry, I
am humbly grateful for the outpouring of encouragement, prayers and good
wishes you have shared with me and my family throughout our life journey
with you. Special thanks to the PoP Seminary Support Team; Pastors Gary,
Roger, Will and Cheryl for your part in the service; Brian, Betsy, Sondra,
Canticle Choir, Bells and Brass for the music; Peggy for your hospitality to our
Resurrection Choir friends and Alice, Florence and Sue for the lovely reception.
With much appreciation to all, Ed Baseman and family.

APRIL 2014 • PRINTS OF PEACE 2
Exodus Youth Group bowled at Rusch’s on March 8th. Below is the group that participated and had a GREAT time!
He is Risen! He is Risen, Indeed!
Now if Christ is preached as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the
dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised; if Christ has not been raised,
then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. - I Corinthians 15:12-14
He is risen! The Easter message of the resurrection of Jesus again rings out to all who would hear it and believe it. The
centrality of the Christ’s resurrection to the Christian religion can never be underestimated in importance for as Paul says,
“If Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain . . .” The fact of the resurrection is so crucial that any other
aspect of Christ’s life and teachings rotates around it. To deny the resurrection, says Paul, is to deny Christianity!
One of the conditions into which Christianity was born was the death of the old Roman religion of many gods and
goddesses, trotting about the celestial heavens acting more like spoiled children than divine beings. These peculiar gods
had strange characteristics of acting more like humans than gods in their jealous fantasies and selfish actions. And, most
important, in the Roman mythology, a god would or could actually die! No wonder the Roman world finally rejected their own
religion. Who can give allegiance to a dead god?
The message of Christianity invaded the Roman Empire and conquered it. Christianity preached that, though Christ died,
Jesus was raised from the dead and was victorious. Our Christ is no dead god, but the living God! The importance of the
resurrection assured that Christianity could successfully move into the vacuum of lives left by the dead Roman religions.
For us, the resurrection must also be central. If we do not celebrate the Easter resurrection, then we may as well go back to
worshiping sacred trees, holy rocks, and divine streams much like our ancient pagan ancestors did. But Christ has been
raised! That event, known through faith, confirms his divine nature, and it is far superior to any third-rate, dead god. In fact,
Christ’s resurrection confirms our own resurrection after our deaths! He is risen! He is risen indeed!
Happy Easter! See You in Church!
Pastor Gary J. Nokleberg
Midweek Lenten Worship Services The Jesus Creed 6:30 pm, Wednesdays, April 2 and 9 What was it like to be a Christian during the time of Jesus’ earthly ministry? The earliest Christians didn’t sing in the choir or
go to weekly Bible studies, and yet they matured inwardly in relationship with God, as well as outwardly in their relationships
with each other. They lived out what is Prince of Peace’s mission statement – they were “growing in faith and reaching out in
love”! How did they do it?
Spiritual maturity for these early Christians rested on the foundation of the two great commandments – first, “Love the Lord
your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength” and second, “Love your
neighbor as yourself.” Come and join us for the Lenten Midweek Worship Services and learn The Jesus Creed!

PRINCE OF PEACE LUTHERAN CHURCH 3
Letter from Hrang Hlei
Hrang is looking forward to visiting PoP on Sunday, May 4 before he graduates with his PhD on May 18. He will bring his
wife, A Cer, daughter Jessica and son Luke to worship with us one last time.
Dear members of Prince of Peace,
Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior!
First, on behalf of my family, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to you for your generous financial support
throughout my study at Luther Seminary. I cannot imagine how I would manage to live comfortably with my family and finish
my study without your financial support. Thank you very much!
Second, I am especially grateful to members of the Mission Endowment Fund for kindly granting me the money ($1706)
requested through the Global Mission Team. Because of your help, my family does not have to worry for our rent for the
remaining months at Luther. No words can fully describe our heartfelt thanks to you. May God bless as you continue to serve
God through providing financial support to others who are in need of help.
Third, it is because of your generous financial support that I have been able to focus on my study and finish it. My research
title is: “The Formation of Chin Immigrant Congregations in the United States: Discovering Their Ecclesiological Identities.”
The research results show that Chin immigrant congregations are evolving, indicating the fact that they are in the process of
forming and developing new ecclesiological identities.
Finally, I would like to request your continuing prayers as I begin my journey beyond seminary, looking forward to
participating in God’s mission the world. I am expected to be in a full time teaching ministry when I return to Myanmar. At
the same time, I am interested in doing God’s mission in the area of education, which is an essential element in the process
of nation building. Many young people in Myanmar have become illiterate and unemployed because of a broken education
system under the previous military regime. As in the mission statement of Prince of Peace, “growing in faith, reaching out in
love,” my vision is to reach out to many young people in Myanmar and provide them access to education. I would like to
invite Prince of Peace to be a part of this vision as I anticipate to make it materialized upon returning to my home country.
Sincerely in Christ,
Hrang Hlei

Memory Work Deadline Approaching Each grade has a packet of memory work that students are
expected to complete before the end of the school year.
The deadline for completing memory work is Sunday, May
5th. Many students are already done and some have yet to
start! Please make the effort to work on these items. They
will help you as you grow in your faith and as you continue
on past Sunday school and into Confirmation classes.
Students who complete their expectations will receive
prizes!
Check out our Progress in Sunday School A timeline of the Bible stories that will be taught at Sunday
School this year lines the wall past the staff offices. If the
picture is in color, we have covered that Bible story in
Sunday School. Come and see how many stories our
children have learned this year!
Sunday School Superstars Don’t forget to check out the photo
board outside the 2nd grade classroom.
You can see some of the things that our
kids are busy with during the year as
they learn and grow with Jesus. As
pictures are removed from the board
they will placed outside Katie’s office for you to take.

for a year (over past years). As a MobilePack we will need to raise
$60,000 and engage 1366 volunteers – exciting!!! If you would
like to be a member of the FMSC planning team at Prince of
Peace, please contact Pam Gruner (739-5310 or
Installation of Pastor Ed Newly ordained Pastor Ed Baseman will be installed
as pastor of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Green
Bay on Sunday, April 6 at 9 a.m. Prince of Peace
members are invited to be present to join in the
celebration of the start of his pastoral ministry there!
The address of the church is 1024 Shawano Avenue
in Green Bay.
Brian Gerike’s
Resignation Brian Gerike, the Director of the
Canticle Choir, announced last
Wednesday that he and his wife,
Betsy, will be leaving the Fox
Cities to teach in Guadalajara,
Mexico this fall. As a result,
Brian is resigning his position at
Prince of Peace effective the end
of May. We have been greatly
blessed by Brian’s music ministry this past year, and
we will miss him dearly. But God calls us to
ministries elsewhere, and so we rejoice that both
Brian and Betsy will be teaching at Lincoln School,
an international Christian school, in Guadalajara for
the next two years. They request your prayers as
they begin this new adventure in the service of our
Lord!
THANK YOU!! Thank you for your generous donations to LEAVEN.
We were able to contribute 42 packages of diapers
and we raised $358.33 in our open door offering.
Your support is greatly appreciated!
Easter 'Continental' Breakfast
in the Narthex! This Easter visit the narthex between services to
enjoy a spread of fruit, bagels, and muffins. All
donations support our high school mission trip to
the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota!
Join the Human Race Would you like to enjoy the outdoors, enjoy a performance by
members of the fabulous UW Marching Band, AND support the Fox
Valley Warming Shelter? Well, here’s your chance! Please join us
on May 3rd at 10:00 a.m. for the Human Race, a 1 mile walk/run
at the Thrivent grounds off Ballard Rd., sponsored by the Volunteer
Center of East Central Wisconsin. This is our third year
participating, and we made almost $6000 last year! So, how can
you help? You can be a Warming Shelter Champion by forming a
team of folks from your church to walk with us (our team name is
Warming Works!) As with other walk/runs, you get sponsors to
pledge money toward your walk. Or, you can get some pledges and

Community Boards
Did you know that Prince of Peace has two “Community”
bulletin boards? The community bulletin board is located in
the Community Room and on the kiosk. The community
bulletin boards are displays of the many outreach
opportunities, educational workshops, leadership seminars,
fundraisers and hands on activities. Take some time to look
at the board and see what opportunities you would like to
take part in/or “tugs at your heart”.
Step into Serving The Witness Ministry at Prince of Peace is a great
opportunity to engage in ministry and build
relationships. The Witness Ministry team serves in a
variety of roles, helping new members, creating a warm
environment and welcoming the community to Prince of
Peace.
We are all created with a unique blend of interests,
abilities, and spiritual gifts for the purpose of playing a
role in our community. When we use these God-given
gifts to support our community, we make a lasting
impression in the lives of others – and in our own lives.
As you serve, you will see God using you, your family
and others to bring about change in people’s lives and
in our community. There are many opportunities
available to serve at Prince of Peace. Prayfully consider
serving!

Family Camping Weekend: July 25-27 at
Calumet County Park
Come one, come all! Join us for a relaxing weekend of camping and fellowship at Calumet County Park in Hilbert, July 25-July
27. If camping is one of your hobbies, this is a great opportunity to get to know fellow members of Prince of Peace. A limited
number of sites have been reserved, so sign up quickly! They are near restrooms, playground and the camp office. We are
planning on having an evening sunset Worship Service on Saturday, July 26th. Prior to that, we will be also be having a
community meal/potluck where we are asking that everyone who attends bring a dish to pass, your own beverages and
grilling food if you wish to cook something over the fire. If you aren’t able to join us for the overnight camping, but would still
like to participate, consider just joining us for the evening worship service and community meal.
Sign up sheets are on the Witness Ministry Board in the narthex. If you want to pay for your spot now, the
cost is $50 for two nights, and includes a $10 non-refundable deposit. If you are writing a check make it
out to Prince of Peace and in the memo put “Camping.”
