THE BLUESTREAK® BATTEN RANGEOcean Racer/Cruiser Tapered Leech BattensA range of tapered battens designed with soft tips, starting with the OR1 and progressing in stiffness to the OR5. These battens are ideal for use as leech battens in mainsails and jibs.

Ocean Racer/Cruiser Tapered Full BattensA range of tapered battens designed with a drive point of 40%. These battens are suitable for full length top battens and fully battened mainsails.

Dinghy Tapered Leech BattensA range of 10 mm and 15 mm tapered battens designed with a soft tip. These battens are ideal to use as leech battens in mainsails and jibs for dinghies and smaller keelboats.

Un-tapered Contract CoilA complete range of 10 mm, 15 mm, 20 mm Ocean Racer 1 to 5 and 28 mm Amazon, profiles supplied in 15 meter coils. These are ideal to use as 50% top battens and also in fully battened mainsails.

RBS EPOXY BATTENSRBS E-GLASS battens are constructed using unidirectional pretensioned E-GLASS fibres impregnated with a specially formulated flexible epoxy resin. This unique combination produces an extremely durable, stiff and virtually unbreakable batten that can be tapered down to less than 1 mm creating an extremely soft tip.

RBS Battens: low weight – high stiffness – virtually unbreakable. Suitable for use in High Aspect jibs.

Rutgerson Roller Battens are established and wide spread as a solution to furling sails world-wide. The product was originally an innovation from Rutgerson and there is today an extensive range of sizes. The roller batten rolls up smoothly on the furling system and allows the boat owner to us e a roller furl cover. It can also be used in furling mainsails.

There are two versions, standard and reinforced. The reinforced battens will be indicated with an ”R”. The core consists of two curved battens made of Swedish stainless steel and the reinforced version has four curved battens for a stronger and stiffer result. Stainless steel is the optimal material for this purpose but like all materials, it has a limit. The material allows the batten to bend but if the product is used incorrectly and the batten is bent to a radius smaller than of approximately 50mm, the product cannot recover and it will be permanently bent.

Make sure not to bend the batten to a radius smaller than 50mm.

STAINLESS STEEL ENDCAPS FOR VERTICAL ROUND BATTENSThese end caps are available in a range of lengths and are made of stainless, acid proof steel and are supposed to be used together with the Batten connectors. NOTE: Both 1545-XX and 1547-XX are supposed to be bonded to the batten with Araldit 2045 or similar.

BATTEN CONNECTORS STAINLESS STEEL, DIVIDEDRutgerson has introduced the first manufactured connector for round battens. It is made of stainless, acid proof steel. Joins battens of identical diameter. Especially suited for vertical battens in roller furl mainsails. The refined designs facilitate the connector to enter the roller furl mainsail. The connector is strong and easy to separate. The parts are glued upon the batten ends with Araldit 2015.

NEW ADJUSTABLE BATTEN RECEPTACLE BANTAMThe batten receptacle Bantam 1600 has the same ingenious construction as the 1600 with the button function to open the lid, but it’s suitable up to approximately 55ft monohull and 40ft multihull, depending on the batten stiffness. The batten receptacle 1600 range is completely unique on the global marine market due to a snap function, which means that no tools are required to remove the sliding lid. LIMOUSINE BIG BOAT BATTEN RECEPTACLEThe Rutgerson 1600 Bantam and Limousine batten receptacle are machined from solid aluminium and anodized black. They are filling the gap in the boat segment for applications from 35' until 60' in length. The battens are front loading via the unique quick release cover plate that can be removed without tools. Bantam and limousine are each available in both M10 and M12 thread sizes.

SUPER RINGS RUTGERSONThe SR-rings are made of high grade stainless steel. They are light, strong, thin and corrosion resistant. Easy to install or remove, reliable and competitively priced. Rutgerson Super Rings are the benchmark for sailmaking rings and used by the majority of sailmakers in the world today. SUPER RING PRESS TOOLSThe press tools for SR10 and SR12 are suitable for hand hammering operations. The SR14 can be applied manually or in combination with a hydraulic press. All other types should only be applied with a hydraulic press. The SR55 requires a two-step process. Step 1 for the correct allignment and step 2 for the fixation. The press tool is a three piece tool (see drawing).

Place the pressed ring on Lower Die (B) with the teethed washer

on top and the rolled liner washer on the bottom, seated in the

Lower Die (B).

Place the Punch (A) over the guide post with Cutting Edge

down on top of the ring. The Cutting Edge is recognized by

its “ concave” shape.

Press untill the bottom of the ring has sheared completely free of

the toothed ring or untill the bottom of the red band on the punch

has been reached.

To remove the remaining toothed washer, place the

patch on top of the support cup (C). Use a screwdriver

or something similar to remove the toothed washer.

QUICK FLEX FITTING HEADBOARDS, FOR LINER FASTENINGThe QFF headboard are available in a wide range of sizes to cover the required range of mainsails for boats up to approximately 50ft. Available in both black and silver 25μm anodized aluminium, this standard fitting only requires liners and no additional rivets. This makes the assembly of the boards quick and easy, which saves valuable time in sailmakers production by being more efficient. As all boards can be turned to make any straight side the vertical top side, this product will also decrease product variances in stock. Webbing to add strength and/or spreading loads can be applied through the liners if necessary.

CARBON FIBRE PRODUCTSThrough extensive research and testing, Rutgerson has set up a Carbon Fibre pre-preg lamination process. They can now offer clewboards, headboards and other products in carbon fibre.

The new carbon fibre-range outperforms conventional products due to the extraordinary strength and bending properties of carbon fibre. All carbon fibre products are manufactured on individual request.

Saving weight is critical for racing. An entire market has evolved due to the increasing demand for lighter and stronger fittings. For example, the most critical location on the boat to save weight is the top of the sail. Carbon fibre headboards would be the optimal solution.

Due to the flexible facilities, there is have the possibility to produce customised products made of carbon fibre, not only including headboards and clewboards but all kinds of products.

CLEWBLOCKSRutgerson’s Clewblocks come with 60, 80 or 100 mm removable delrin sheaves and are available in both silver and black anodized cheek plates. RUTGERSON HEADBOARD CARSThe headboard cars in black anodized aluminium are robust and easily attached to the corresponding headboard. The system is constructed with either 2 or 3 cars that can easily be disassembled from the cheek plate with a retractable circlip on system A and B or Allen key on system C. The initial version of the headboard cars has been upgraded with jointed battcars. The battcars can move independent of each other, which means that the headboard cars can more easily enter the track gate.

LUFFSHUTTLE: MULTI ROLLER-CAR SYSTEM FOR FULLY BATTENED SAILSDesigned and manufactured by Contender Italy, these batten luff shuttles are similar to the Rutgerson 1530 series, but each car comes with nine different carbon slides so they will fit almost all mast tracks. With a stainless steel M10 thread the cars are compatible with most batten receptacles. An intermediate shuttle slide car is also available to compliment the luff shuttle suitable for boats up to 38 feet. Each pack of a luff shuttle comes complete with all the different attachments.

CONTENDER PVC COATED LUFF TAPE WITH HARD BRAIDED LUFF LINEThe base for the luff tape is a 500 x 500 denier polyester cloth which is coated with PVC on the inside to weld the tape firmly around a hard braided Gleistein luff line. The outside of the tape is impregnated with a special formula to prevent it from getting mildew and ensure the tape to slide easily through the head stay profile.

User guide:– Loosen the two wing nuts (A). Push the two stainless steel

plates outwards as shown.– Fold and crease half a metre of the tape (D), exactly in the

middle, that you want to fold.– Insert the folded and creased tape into either the top or lower

slot.Use the narrow slot for tapes lighter than 280 grams/sqm, and the wider slot for tapes heavier than 280 grams/sqm. The fold should point towards the stainless plate. If necessary you can use slot E to feed the tape through the folder.

– Push the two stainless steel plates inwards untill the crease of the folded tape has been reached. Then tighten the two wing nuts A.

– Pull the tape through the tape holder.– The tape folder can be placed in a vice or bolted to a bench

(using holes F), for added stability, when pulling the tape.

The WeatherMax™ fabric has taken away the need to make a choice between a waterproof and a breathable fabric by offering a solution to both. WeatherMax™ has a HydroMax finish which ensures there is no need for extra coatings. This makes WeatherMax™ lightweight, water resistant, non sagging and durable. The HydroMax finish also provides excellent breathability to help reduce condensation and mildew.

WeatherMax™ is woven using SaturaMax yarn. SaturaMax yarn technology gives this fabric the same long term colour retention associated with acrylic materials, but with the significant advantage of higher strength, stability and abrasion resistance.

WeatherMax™ is available in two weights and a wide range of colours to suit all applications.

WeatherMax™ Coated quite simply outperforms the competition. It has twice the strength of acrylic and is six times more durable under abrasion and rubbing. WeatherMax Coated has a long life, very good UV properties, fade resistance and an antimildew treatment.

WEATHERMAX™ BIAS BINDINGWeathermax bias binding utilizes the unique qualities of the WeatherMax™ 80 to produce the best bias binding available. It is 44mm wide bias WeatherMax™ 80 folded and fused to 22mm 7/8" finished width. Its fantastic abrasion resistance and superb colour retention make this bias binding suitable for all applications and will outperform all others. Available in various colours and a Suisei binder is available for ease of production and a truly professional finish.

Cleaning instructionsWeatherMax™ fabrics may be spot washed by using a soapy solution of a mild detergent and lukewarm water. Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove the soap and allow to air dry. For mildew stains, prepare a solution of one (1) cup of bleach plus half (1/2) cup of mild detergent per 4 liters water. Spray on the entire area and allow soaking. Rinse with clean water and allow to air dry.

The printed colour may differ from the actual colour. Please only use for your reference.

PERFORMANCE PROPERTIES -MASACRIL®

Masacril® is a high quality range of acrylic fabrics that gives an excellent performance in many applications in the nautical sector. Its excellent properties: long life, great resistance to UV radiation, permeability to air and watertightness, anti-mould properties, light weight, ease of maintenance and solution dyed Masacril® acrylic, make it the fabric of choice. For over thirty years there has been no other fabric that can compare. The very durable waterproof coating ensures a water column of more than 1000 mm and excellent shape holding; still, there is enough stretch in the fabric so that a canopy can be pulled effortlessly to the attachments and has enough stability to prevent sagging.

StatusThese terms of trading are a summary of the terms registered at the Chamber of Commerce in Utrecht, the Netherlands, under number 2405. No modification, alteration or amendment of any of the provisions of these terms of trading shall be valid unless in writing and signed by Contender B.V.

PricesAll quoted prices are net FOB from our warehouses in The Netherlands, and/or K.B.C. Germany and are exclusive of VAT. All prices are subject to change without notice.

PaymentInvoices are dated as per the day of despatch of the goods. We retain ownership of the goods supplied until full payment has been received in accordance with the set payment terms.

Overdue AccountsDespatch of new orders may be withheld where accounts are overdue. Interest may be applied to overdue accounts on a monthly basis from the due date until the date of receipt of payment. The interest rate is 1½% per month. Any portion of a month shall count as a full month.

Method of DeliveryThe customer should specify whether “regular” or “express” delivery service is required. If neither is specified we will assume that regular service applies.

Where regular delivery is specified, despatch will be made by post provided weight and size permitting, or alternatively by normal road or air carrier.

ReturnsGoods may be returned by prior arrangement. Any goods returned for credit must be delivered to our warehouse within 60 days of invoice date.

LiabilityAll materials sold by Contender have been specifically developed for the manufacturing of sails and/or other marine associated applications. Contender can not be held liable if their products are used otherwise.

Product liability is restricted to the value of the specific item delivered by Contender.
