SHAKER VILLAGE RESEARCH CENTERHarrison, OHIn groups of four, site models were created that analyzed a large farmland in rural Ohio. The existing topography was very flat, and therefore groups were left to interpret textures, vegetation and an existing framework ofbuildings. This resulted in a 5’ x 5’ model that influenced individual projects. By using a combination of hand drawing, Rhino 4.0, and Photoshop, each student was able to compose a hybridized drawing that embodied site organization, movement through the site and specific moments within the circulation.

CINCINNATI HOUSING PROJECTCincinnati, OHA vacant downtown site was utilized for the construction of a mixed-use and residential housing project. Working along with another classmate, Bridgett Hedrick, we were able to create a dualing yet cohesive project that analyzed particular demographics, the urban scale, graining of movement, and opportunities to provide safe private housing along with public amenities. An extensive investigation of terraced housing, communal living facilities, and environmental studies enabled us to compose unique views towards Mount Adams, and to maximize natural light in a growing downtown context.

CRANBROOK WELLNESS CENTERBLOOMFIELD HILLS, MIThis project was designed by University of Cincinnati for the SEC Comprehensive Studio. This studio emphasizes and encourages students to incorporate structural systems, passive/active environmental strategies and mechanical systems cohesively into their design. The existing building context at Cranbrook is heavily influenced by low walls, narrow passages that open up into larger spaces, and holding the edges of large green quads. I created an integrated series of smart walls that produced an open plan, but allowed each individual piece of Program to have a wall specifically designed to retain it’s structural, mechanical and unique environmental needs.

WILSON HALL UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI, CINCINNATI, OHThis project was a historic preservation studio. It was a redesign for WIlson Hall. Wilson Hall is a building that has been vacant for ten years on the University of Cincinnati campus. The Campus Architect, Beth McGrew, wanted to see how we could use this building in a new way. The studio was divided into two groups and each person had a particular focus. My focus was the public elements and larger urban scale of the surrounding areas of the building. I proposed a turn around for the large plaza space, because there are constantly dangerous traffic issues in this area, and then also proposed a campus staircase that incoporated program such as a coffee shop.

FUTURE LIVING 2050UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI, CINCINNATI, OHThis project was was a design studio related to futureliving. The premise of this studio was working with Procter and Gamble on understanding future markets and how people live today. Based on many weeks of research the studio created four scenarios that related to different types of future lifestyles. Nomad living was created based upon the idea of people migrating for their jobs, for resources, constantly on the go. I designed a modular element that could easily travel and could be unufolded into a private side and a public side. This design was based on the dimensions of trailers and the ability to create communnity and privacy in a society that is always moving.

MASTER OF ARCHITECTURE THESIS SITE: TOPOGRAPHY OF TERROR BERLIN, GERMANYBerlin has a complex and anguished history, largely layered and essentially covered up. Exposure to these multiple layers of history allows a younger generation to fabricate, archive and reconstruct memories of their German past. Complexity and interaction are the ghosts of all cities, however Berlin has an exceptionally heightened sense of recent traumatic history and memory that is still part of the consciousness of the current generations. and they must be consciously concealed and revealed. By weaving these historical layers into the interwoven fabric of modern everyday life, the stories of a single site strive to break through a dense surface of contaminated memories.

Manzanita Hall, Arizona State University- Solomon Cordwell BuenzPROFESSIONAL WORK CHICAGO, ILCollaborated on the Manzanita Hall Renovation at the University of Arizona in Tempe, Arizona. Manzanita Hall is an iconic 15 story dormitory built in the 1960s, and is one of the first post-tensioned cable structures in the US. The renovation included modernizing the facility to meet the demands of the contemporary students and providing a rich living and collaborative learning environment.Worked on the construction documents primarily coordinating the interior dwelling unit elevations. She also provided support for the design of other interior common spaces and coordinated ceiling and elevation elements.

St. Ignatius Atrium, St. Ignatius College Prep - Solomon Cordwell BuenzPROFESSIONAL WORK CHICAGO, ILCompleted countless studies with the client, Fr. Rowe, to develop a material palette and lighting scheme that blended with the existing decor of the building as well as within the budget of the client. Chelsea was very knowledgeable with the types of materials that Fr. Rowe envisioned using in the space. Much of the materials were suggested by me and are implemented into the space today. The end result consists of rich wall coverings, tapestries, and interior furnishings that lend themselves to the completion of a high end, yet comfortable, interior space worthy of displaying Fr. Rowe’s valuable artifacts.

SMALL PROJECTS1. The project called for the design and creation of 12 blocks. Each was specifically designed to interlock with all twelve in a multitude of combinations.
2. Ballroom Pavilion for the top of a parking garage in downtown Cincinnati. A study of structure and how it can influence a syntax for the facades.
3. Turning a two-dimensional drawing into a three-dimensional object with a concentration in line, plane and mass.
