COVINGTON PARKS & RECREATION

Covington Community Park UpdateWe are excited to announce that construction of phase two of Covington Community Park is underway and is expected to be complete by the end of summer 2018. Areas of the park, such as the playfield, will remain open during construction as much as possible, but sections of the park will be closed as needed to complete the work.

Phase one of Covington Community Park was completed in June 2013. Since that time, many park users have enjoyed playing sports on the athletic field and walking the nature trails.

Major elements of Phase Two include: • community stage with green roof • large lawn and picnic shelters • playground • fitness area with exercise stations • tennis court • additional trail segments • restrooms • concessions building • additional parking • storage

There are many funding sources that are making the construction of phase two possible. About 83 percent of the project, or $7,000,000, is funded by the taxpayers of Washington State with a WA Department of Commerce;

$500,000 is funded by the federal Land Water and Conservation Fund program; $500,000 is funded by the WA Wildlife and Recreation Program; $704,000 is funded by the City of Covington; $65,000 is funded by King County; and $30,688 is funded by King Conservation District.

In the future, there will be a third and final phase of park development once funding can be secured. The most significant feature of the third phase will be the addition of synthetic turf athletic fields with lighting.

Additional information about Covington Community Park and all other City of Covington park properties can be found at www.covingtonwa.gov/parks.
