Elementary

Arts & CraftsAges: 6 – 9

Prerequisite: Willingness to Participate in Everything!

Fee: $15

Curriculum/Supplies: Labeled XL Ziplock bag with inexpensive basic art supplies: watercolor set, oil pastel set, paintbrush, crayons, pencils w/erasers, glue stick, and smock (which can be a large adult t-shirt) *and* a labeled, spiral bound drawing pad: 70 lb. bright white paper, good for drawing and ‘light wash’ watercolor. IF your child participated in a previous year and still has blank pages, please feel free to let them continue with that art pad. We will be doing a NEW curriculum in 2016-2017.

Description: This is a beginner level drama class for the outgoing child who loves to “ham it up.” In this class children will learn to enunciate, project their voices, creativity, and stage movement. We will do improv via charades and other fun games.

Students will be expected to memorize work when needed and commit to the class and class members. Some scripts will be emailed. Students will most likely have a chance to perform in December and May performances for parents.

*An occasional outside co-op rehearsal may be necessary.

ELECTIVE: MUSIC

Ages: 6 – 9

Prerequisite: None

Fee: None if students obtain their own book and recorder.

Curriculum/Supplies: It’s Recorder Time! by Alfred d’Auberge and Morton Manus ($4.99 on Amazon), a recorder (less than $10) and a binder for handouts.

Teacher: Katie Estrella

Description: In this class, students will learn to play the recorder, read music in the treble clef, use percussion instruments in order to learn rhythm, and sing. Students will learn about instrument families, listen to music from different time periods, and learn about major composers.

Elective: No-Heat Cooking Class

Ages: 6 – 9

Prerequisite: None

Fee: $25 - For beginning of the year. Another $10 will be needed in January. Any remaining money at the end of the year will be returned to the parents!

Descriptions: Children will have a hands-on opportunity to enjoy making and tasting varied recipes. We will be creating a recipe binder and adding to it over the course of the year. Although most recipes will not require heat, we will be utilizing small appliances from time to time such as a blender, microwave, waffle maker, etc.

Some nutritional information will also be covered.

Elective: Hands on Storytime

Ages: 6 – 9Prerequisite: NoneFee: $10.00 (for craft items such as construction/drawing paper, printables, paint, popsicle sticks, etc.)

Curriculum/Supplies: No curriculum is being used. Please make sure your child has a pencil, crayons or colored pencils, markers, glue stick and a pair of scissors.

Description: Kids will experience reading come to life. Each week we'll read a different story and then do fun activities and/or a craft to go with it. I will also incorporate the holiday of the current month.

If your child has a favorite book, have them bring it in and I’ll use it the following week.

Fee: 10.00 (copies, activity sheets and activity related supplies)

History: Mystery of History Volume III

Ages: 10 - 13

Prerequisite: Should be reading at a 5th grade level (or there is an audio version of the book)

Fee: $15 but could ask for more 2nd half of year depending on supplies needed.

Curriculum/Supplies: Mystery of History Volume III book by Linda Hobar, ( I will be looking into a group buy of the book for a discount over the summer)

Teacher: Debi Bonilla

Description: Written from a Christian Worldview, covering people and events from 1455 to 1707 we will cover The Medici’s, the Inquisition, and Christopher Columbus. Michelangelo, Martin Luther, and Henry VIII. Copernicus, Shakespeare, and Pocahontas. These are but glimpses of great power, great minds, and great passion.

The students will be required to read 3 lessons a week at home. (1-2 pages per lesson) We will be doing the extracurricular activities in the class along with some discussion. Tests will be optional to the parents. I want this to be a fun, hands on class to go with the reading at home.

Description: Your child will build their creative writing abilities through this course by learning specific techniques to help them explore their creative written voice through poetry writing, creative imagery and short story as well as have free writing time at the end of each class to ensure they have time in their busy schedules to spend on their creativity. There will generally be one page papers due each week with a short story due at the end of the year and one or two collaborative skits throughout the year.

Description: In this class your student will discover the logic, order, beauty, and fun of Algebra. As students work with axioms, rules, and principles of Algebra, they will develop their logical reasoning, deeper critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Ultimately, studens will discover that underneath all the numbers and symbols, math has a powerful message. Every time it works, it is reminding us that God is still faithfully holding all things together consistently.

The Algebra 1 level covers graphing, simultaneous equations, exponents, polynomials, unit multipliers, commutative and associative properties, solving for an Unknown with One Variable, the distributive property, Cartesian Coordinates, the slope-intercept formula, and more. Concepts will be developed and mastered through an abundance of worked examples and exercises in class and at home.

Description: Math-U-See Geometry has three main areas of emphasis, which are the vocabulary of geometry, practical applications of geometry, and traditional geometry, including proofs. Topics include lines, angles, area, perimeter, volume, Pythagorean theorem, axioms and postulates, congruency, and similarity.

Science: Biology

Ages: 9th - 12th grades

Prerequisite: Must be a High Schooler

Curriculum/Supplies: Exploring Creation with Biology (2nd edition) Text book by Wile and Durnell, It is part of the Apologia science text books, 3-ring binder, notebook for note taking, pencils and/or pens. **There may be another textbook source. I haven’t decided yet, but will update as I put together my syllabus for the class.

Description: We will be covering hopefully all 16 modules within the text book. Grades will be an average of class participation, homework completion, and tests (both in-class and take home). There will be dissections but if your student has an aversion to dissecting I will not make them. *audition preparation

*scene work with 2-3 other actors

Description HS art class will introduce students to art basics, and put those basics to use through projects throughout the year.  I'm hoping to change up a few things this year so new, as well as repeat students, will benefit.  The bulk of work will be done at co op, with occasional projects sent home for completion.  The biggest change is I will not purchase individual art sets for the students.  I found this did not work as well for my teaching style.  I will purchase supplies as needed throughout the year for student projects.  Class motto:  We don't stress in art class :)
