Traditionally there are four types of events:

1. Leisure events

2. Cultural events

3. Organizational events

4. Personal events

` ICT is concerned with the storage, retrieval, manipulation,

transmission or receipt of digital data.

` In business, ICT is often categorized into 2 broad types ofproducts:

(i) The Traditional computer-based technologies (things

you can typically do on a personal computer or using

computers at home or at work)(ii) The digital communication technologies which is the

more recent, and fast-growing form (allow people and

organizations to communicate and share information

digitally)

` Use of websites has allowed event companies to develop

new and cheaper ways of reaching new markets

` Expansion and use of e-mails has been used by business

to market their goods and services directly to potentialcustomers, as well as communicating with existing customers

and suppliers.

` Practically all companies now use software programs

e.g. Excel to manage their accounts.

` This has allowed them to look at financial information

when required and monitor them.

` For Events, there is the need for staff to be away from the event

venue for managing everything and need to be always connected.

` Event Companies now use a range of technologies to enable the

mobility. These include mobile phones, e-mail, broadband, laptops,etc. Thus ensuring that companies are able to be flexible and

adaptive depending on fluctuating needs.

` The existence of two or more computers in an office almost always

leads to the creation of a network.

` The main advantage of doing so is that resources can be shared

e.g. printers, internet access, files/information can be managed andshared amongst workstations and the security of information can be

better managed through a network.

Internet today is the biggest weapon for events today.There are eight ways an event manger can utilize theinternet:

` Cut Costs: The use of Internet automatically cuts the

costs of the company, it is time as well as cost effective.

Example: e-mail, sharing of information etc.

` Conduct Research: Conducting surveys with the help of

internet and getting aware of the consumer needs andfeedback.

` Commerce: Helps in sale of tickets overseas and

also plays a major role in online booking.

` Current Events: It helps in knowing what all is

happening around the world and full information

about it.

` Command Attention: This can be done by avoiding

bulk mail and just targeting an audience. Also use

of sponsored links.

` Cutting Edge Services: ICT provides cutting edge

services like 360 degree marketing and virtual

services.

Convenience: Prompt services with the help ofinternet, e-mails etc.

The transformation created by ICT has taken place over

the last 20 years and continues to transform the way

business is done. No business today can ignore the use

of technology as its effective use helps businesses to

remain competitive and profitable, thereby creating andsafeguarding jobs.
