Snowboard shops that live, breathe and stoke the world on riding are the backbone of snowboarding. When they not only sell and service great gear, but dynamically promote snowboarding through events, bbqs, teams, videos and engaged social media, snowboarding is healthy on a local level. Plain and simple, snowboarding needs great snowboard shops. They are the epicenters of local scenes.

At the same time, there has been a cultural shift for some people towards shopping online. Whether it is for convenience, habit or to find exactly what they want, some riders prefer to buy o! the Internet. While we can’t wish people back into the 90s, we can create programs that address this shift in a healthy way.

With our unique and groundbreaking % For Snowboarding program, Rome is doing this. In fact, Rome is the only brand doing it.

Through % For Snowboarding, we’re the only brand that has created a way to meet both realities—the need to support snowboard shops and the need to meet the habits of the online customer. Through this program, we’re the only brand that includes retailers in the online purchases snowboarders make on our website. We’re the only brand that provides retailers with margin when a customer purchases directly from a brand.

And we’ve structured the program in an e!ort to benefit snowboarding in general—hence, the name. When a shop is selected on % For Snowboarding, that shop receives a strong margin for simply qualifying for the program. However, shops can increase their margin by doing things that benefit snowboarding in general. These are things like hosting contests at the shop, supporting local young riders, or even creating a shop video. If a shop spreads and promotes snowboarding, then we will compensate them for it through % For Snowboarding.

Through our % For Snowboarding program, riders can opt to shop globally. But they’ll always be spending locally.

Free-the-Ride Camber begins with positive camber in the board’s tail, transitioning into a flat camber section beneath the rider’s front foot and ending in a rockered nose for maximum float. The rockered nose lets you float and rip through the deeper snow while the flat camber under your front foot blends in a reassuring amount of stability and response. POWDER S

Powder is all that matters. But we don’t want some single-fin, retro feel; we want a mountain thruster. The rockered nose meets up with positive camber in the middle portion and tail portion of the board for our unique blend of surfy fun and explosive slashing. We wanted boards that could soar through bottom less powder but would still have enough kick to rip face-shots and snap o! the lip of a cornice.

FREEPOP ROCKER

A rockered nose and tail that meets a flat mid-body to create a responsive and fun all-terrain camber profile. The flat camber is stable and solid under foot, while the rocker in the nose and tail add buttery playfulness. To give our rocker more kick, we add tech like Bamboosters or TurboRods to help create boards that add power and response to freestyle and pow terrain. Hoss turns, float when it’s deep and ride everything with a stable, responsive feel.

NOHANG-UPS ROCKER 2.0

We’ve redesigned our NoHang-Ups Rocker profile for 2016. Featuring a new flat Diamond under foot, we’ve shortened the Diamond to 30mm from the contact points and we’ve made the point of it a bit narrower. The result is a more precise ollie point and more 3D Continuous Curvilinear rocker in the nose and tail. The interaction between our flat Diamond and the rocker creates the unique playful and poppy response.

MTNPOP ROCKER 2.0

MtnPop Rocker is redesigned for 2016. We modified the amount of rocker between your feet so that it and the contact points touch the snow when the board is under no pressure. In the nose of the board and the tail of the board, we place positive camber. The result is a combination that is equal parts big-mountain ripper and mini-shred aficionado. Positive camber lets you hammer carves, snap ollies and provides increased stability while the rocker give you float and playful buttery-fun.

NOHANG-UPS POP 2.0

We’ve also redesigned our NoHang-Ups Pop profile this year for a more refined combination of pop and float. The Diamond in this design is positive camber, and in the new configuration it ends 20mm from the contact point and features a narrower point. Outside the Diamond, we’ve increased out 3D Continuous Curvilinear Rocker in the nose and tail. The result is full power and pop from the positive camber Diamond, and round, surfy, floaty turns from the 3D Rocker. This is rocker with true pop.

BOARD SHAPES

TRUE TWIN:

Ride it regular, ride it switch. Centered stances, identically dimensioned tips and tails, and symmetrical flexes let these boards be a versatile as you want them to be. Take the graphic o! and you won’t know which end is the nose.

ALMOST TWIN:

Where the board touches packed snow these boards are twin, the flex is twin and stance is centered. Outside of the contact point the nose of the board is slightly longer to help your float in powder.

DIRECTIONAL:

These boards feature noses that are larger than their tails to help you to ride faster in deep snow. The stances are set back slightly to maximize this sidecut-to-stance relationship.

The next generation of our HotRods Technology brings a new approach to loading ollies and building pop. We start by milling channels into the board’s core, then we insert carbon rods that rest freely inside sleeves with a single point of attachment. The rod is anchored only towards the center area of the board, leaving the outside tip of the rod to flex freely inside the sleeve. This means the TurboRods engage the tip and tail of the board to load maximum spring, creating a more active flex pattern and e!ectively self-dampening after pop occurs.

A SPINE OF RESPONSIVE SNAP

Zylon is a space-age, ultra snappy and lightweight material found in some of our higher end boards. We lay a strip of Zylon down the centerline of the board to give it additional power and responsiveness. Increased longitudinal power and chatter resistance, with added pop for deep landings and serious ollies. It comes in two versions:

Every type of terrain and riding style requires a di!erent degree of pop and response. HotRods are at the core of almost every board we make; we start with thin, hollow tubes of carbon, bamboo or glass and then insert them into milled channels in the core of the boards. These are arranged in di!erent patterns and configurations all designed for specific riding situations and levels of responsiveness. Targeted flex and pop through custom-tailored HotRod placement and design.

Pop matters. A lot. Whether we’re designing a rocker board or a positive camber board, a rail board or a powder gun, we make sure to load in the correct amount of pop. We’ve created an arsenal of technologies that come in di!erent patterns to yield a controlled level of pop for each board. Regardless of what you like to do—ollie o! the lip of a jump, slash a wall of powder, nollie into a trick or rail a carve—your snowboard needs pop.

Z-Tech 1.0: A 1-inch wide strip of Zylon for freestyle friendly flexes that pop ollies like mad without being overly sti! when the board twists.

Reverse Radial V: This pattern is the king of transmitting energy into the center of your tail and nose, for more pop o! lips, without adding much sti!ness when the board twists. So you get max power, but still have a board with freestyle finesse.

Double Barrel: We put this pattern in our rocker boards and the tails of freeride boards when we want to add as much power as possible. In rockers, it adds longitudinal and torsional pop to balance out the looseness of rocker. In freeride boards, it loads up for exiting turns and exploding powder.

Single Barrel: In many boards, we just want to add a nice hit of ollie pop without making the board sti! at all when it twists. With a single barrel in the centerline, we get this boost of power and leave the rest of the board feeling smooth and playful.

Designed to compliment the ultra-responsive nature of all-mountain boards, this sidewall technology is both durable and chatter dampening. The key to these sidewalls is a sandwich of absorbent ABS sidewall material around layers of elastomeric material. The end product is chatter dampening that also e!ectively increases the board’s over all strength thanks to greater impact absorption.

NOHANG-UPS 2.0 TECH

TECH FOR SURF AND SNAP

The idea of 3D base contouring has been around since the dawn of snowboarding, as seen in the first designs of the 60’s Snurfer. Our unique NoHang-Ups Diamond shape is the foundation o! which our modern version of 3D contouring is based. For the new season, we’ve redesigned our Diamond and we’ve increased the amount of 3D Continuous Curvilinear (CCR) rocker outside of the Diamond for a better balancing of the feel of snowboarding with the pop of snowboarding. The Diamond is now narrower at the points and it ends further inside the board’s running length. The key is where and how the base rockers. The Diamond underfoot is either positive or flat cambered, combined with the 3D Continuous Curvilinear Rocker in the nose and tail of the board. This creates a buttery, playful flex that still maintains control and responsive precision.

The Diamond delivers power, directional stability and increased ollies, while the 3D CCR gives the board a floaty, playful feel.

SKATECORE PROFILING

AS CLOSE TO A PAIR OF TRUCKS AS YOU’LL GET ON SNOW

We wanted boards that had skate-like turning and feel for locking into rails and easy maneuverability. For this kind of torsional flex, we thin the board’s core profile between the bindings and thicken it under and outside of the bindings for maximum skate like response. The end product is a deck that turns and snaps like a skate deck yet still bosses landings and carves.

QUICKRIP SIDECUT

POWERFUL WHEN FAST; PLAYFUL WHEN SLOW

The idea behind QuickRip SideCut is to give you a board that rails turns at high speeds and a board that is a playful feeling at slower speeds. To do this we give you two sidecuts with the same radius, one in the mid-section of the board and one in the nose and tail regions. The intersection of these two arcs is near the bindings and creates the Mid-Board Contact Points. The Mid-Board Contact Points provide you with haul ass edge handling but when you slow down give you a fun looser style ride.

BUTTEROUT TRANSITION ZONES

SOMETIMES YOU WANT IT LOOSE AND PLAYFUL

Smoother presses and playful butters are the name of the game with our Butterout Transition Zones. By elongating the transition from the boards’ sidecut into the nose and tail the board we e!ectively mellow out the engagement of the boards’ edge for smooth butters.

Feel matters. We believe in designing snowboard that pop like mad for sure. But we also believe in creating technologies that balance our pop-driving technologies to create boards that feel smooth, feel the nuances o! the terrain and feel playful. To do this, we work in the geometries of our cambers, edge technologies and core profiling.


CORESAt the core of any snowboard worth riding is wood; pure, classic timeless wood. It just pops better than synthetics. For riders that demand a consistent clean powerful flex wood is the only answer. To create new flex patterns and achieve optimal strength to-weight ratios we use a variety of laminates, air channels and types of wood. All with one goal; Flex With Pop.

FLEXIBLE INSULATION

Warmth-with-flexibility is a design strategy unique to Rome. Similar to wetsuit design, we place more warmth on the back of your hand where there is natural insulation and less on the palm side where there is more natural insulation.

Within our glove program, we’ve created di!erent collections for di!erent riders and di!erent perspectives. Or maybe for the same rider, but one who approaches the mountain di!erently on di!erent days. From colder days to warm spring sessions, there are many days when you just want to ride in a cotton hoodie. But the wind can bite through and kill a good vibe. So we have added a little length and added hidden technology to keep the hoodie cotton on the outside, but powered up to fight weather on the inside. A layer of wind-proof nylon layer on the inside kills wind to keep you warm in a wide range of temperatures. New for 2016, we’ve added a rechargeable heated hoodie to make the lift ride back up much more awesome.
