Join or Renew Your SCA Membership Now for 2015The 2015 Sacramento Claims Association Membership Drive is now in full swing Annual membership do provide a significant financial support to the organization And a strong membership helps to keep a non-profit like SCA viable and alive Without all of us together there would be no SCA ldquoThis organization could not maintain the strong standing we enjoy today without the support of all our mem-bersrdquo stated SCA President Steve MooreOverall membership and meeting attendance has been consistent and substantial Still the sense that there arenrsquot many adjusters at any given function remains pervasive ldquoWe continue to encourage the car-rier claims people and independent adjusters participate and to attend and become more involvedrdquo Moore added

Former Roseville insurance agent convicted of stealing school district employeesrsquo identities

ROSEVILLE Calif ndash Magaly Morales 51 was sentenced March 25 2015 to three years and four months in state prison after pleading guilty to forgery identity theft and aggravated white collar crime enhancement for losses over $100000Morales was arrested in De-cember 2014 on multiple felony counts for submitting 299 fraud-ulent annuity applications and collecting more than $230000 in advanced commissionsldquoLicensed agents and brokers have a fiduciary responsibility to their clients and the companies they representrdquo said Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones

ldquoWhen someone violates that trust as Morales did by steal-ing peoplesrsquo identities it erodes consumer confidencerdquo As a licensed insurance agent for Great American Life Insurance Company Morales gained ac-cess to policyholdersrsquo data from 2009 to 2011 Morales used her authority as an agent to steal information from school district employees in 13 counties across the state from Shasta to San Luis Obispo The largest number of victims was in San Joaquin County Using the stolen identi-ties of innocent victims Morales submitted annuity applications to Life Insurance Company of

the Southwest and received ad-vanced commissions on annuity policies for people who had no idea they owned such policies Due to Moralesrsquo illegal activity identity theft victims did not have to pay any premiums on the fraudulent policiesThis case was a joint effort be-tween the California Department of Insurance and the San Joaquin County District Attorneyrsquos Of-fice Magaly Morales is also known as Maglay EgasAs of January 15 2015 Magaly Morales is no longer licensed to transact insurance in California

Check a California Licensed agentrsquos status and see if they have any enforcement actions The victims worked at various school districts spread through-out the following 13 counties

Code upgrades are a common part of any prop-erty claim adjustment This informative two hour presentation will familiarize the attendee with relevant building codes code enforcement authority code revision cycles building code sections dealing with existing struc-tures energy code upgrades electrical upgrades structural up-grades life safety issues and accessibility The most important part of the presentation deals with the circumstances under which mandatory code upgrades are required
