Week 8 - Term 2, 2021

On Tuesday 1st June, 2021 we held our annual Athletics Carnival at Birralee Oval. The wonderful

weather contributed to a day that was once again full of fun, colour, athleticism and comradery.

The carnival officially opened with an Acknowledgment of Country and then all students began

participating in track and field events, as well as the tabloid activities for K-2 students provided by

Sports in Schools, who have been conducting the Athletics Program at school during Term 2. The level

of participation and House spirit was impressive, with many students displaying solid performances in

both track and field events. Our students embraced the day and all who attended are to be

congratulated for the way they represented themselves and our school.

Congratulations to the age champions for your excellent performances throughout the day. Age

champions are students who competed well across all events throughout the day.

Juvenile Girl – Indie S

Juvenile Boy – Eli J

Jnr Girl – Hannah P

Jnr Boy – Taite W

Snr Girl – Jorja P

Snr Boy – Angus S

Congratulations to Angus for setting a new Senior Boys Long Jump Record of 4.00m. Well done

Angus!

EDGEWORTH was the winning house, earning the most points for all events on the day.

Students who have qualified to participate at the PSSA Zone Athletics Carnival will be notified and

given their permission note by the end of this Term. The Zone Carnival will be held on Friday 16th July

(Week 1, Term 3).

Thank you to all staff, students and parents/carers for your support of the Athletics Carnival. It was a

wonderful day that showcased not only our talented students but also our great community at

Abermain.

Week 8 - Term 2, 2021

Congratulations to our award recipients. It is such a pleasure to see the joy on the faces of our students as they receive their awards! 2021 saw us embed three awards within our school PBL stage-based contracts. Students are working towards their Safety, Respect and Learning Awards. Our students have embraced the language of "Bucket Filling" and "Bucket Dipping". We again encourage families to discuss this strategy with their children. We have had some wonderful reports of children filling buckets in their own homes. This week saw our ‘Young Men's Group’ commence. As a group they are focusing on developing positive masculinity. Those involved have shared with staff that it is about "being men and doing it properly", "being positive role models" and "knowing how to calm a situation". Thank you to Gillian from ‘Imaginaturalist’ who has once again provided the students with engaging content as they develop their skills in both Science and Art. Our students have had the opportunity to participate in our Public Speaking program this term. We are looking forward to the finals next week.

Term 2 Progress Report and Learning Plan Catch-ups

Teachers will be available through-out Week 10, Term 2 to connect and discuss student achievement. To organise a catch up please contact classroom teachers via Dojo to set an appropriate time, or contact the office to leave a message for staff. Students are encouraged to participate and share their own understanding of what they have mastered and what their next steps will be. All students will receive their Term 2 Progress and Learning Reports in Week 10, Term 2. Thank you again to our P&C Fundraising Committee who ran a successful Pie Drive this week. MEDICATIONS

If your child requires non-prescribed or intermittent medication administered at school,

parents/carers must complete a medication form which can be obtained from the school

office. This form requires specific details of medication and health management.

FOR THE SAFETY OF ALL CHILDREN MEDICATIONS MUST BE HANDED TO THE OFFICE BY

PARENTS/CARERS. MEDICATIONS ARE NOT TO BE HANDED TO THE STUDENT TO BRING TO

OR FROM SCHOOL.

STUDENT ABSENCES

SMS texts will be sent to parents/carers between 9.45am and 10.00am each day to

inform that an absence has been recorded for their child. Parents/carers can explain

absence either by replying to the SMS text, in person, by phone, school email or a

letter to the class teacher. ALL absences must be explained within seven (7) days. If

you are having attendance issues with your child, please contact the school so we can

work together to improve their attendance at school.

Important information for parents and students

The Department recognises that family breakdowns take place. However, unless

there is formal notice it is assumed that both parents have shared and equal

parental responsibility for their children and both parents have been involved in

decisions regarding their children’s education. This also means the school

recognises that each parent has equal duties, obligations, responsibilities and

opportunities relating to matters involving the school.

If changes occur in your family relationship which might impact on the

relationship between the school and your family, you should advise the school

immediately. This includes providing copies of any relevant court orders.
