Until Labor Day

My beloved, Six years ago after my ordination to the priesthood the Bishop had sent me to Rockaway to be parochial vicar at St. Cecilia’s and Sacred Heart of Jesus Parishes. This time went so fast and now it is time for me to say GOODBYE to all of you. I have spent six beautiful years in Rockaway serving God and his wonderful people. I would like to express my thankfulness to all of you for your faithfulness to God and his holy church. Thank you very much for your goodness and kindness. You have been always very good to me and I will never forget you. You have become my new family. If I have hurt anybody during this time, please forgive me. Special thanks to our good pastor Fr. Zig for his kind-ness, guidance and loving heart. He was not only my pastor but over this time he became like my father. I have learned many good things from him especially how to be a good priest. THANK YOU, BOG ZAPLAC. Please remember that only God can help you over-come your problems and he will never leave you alone. Sunday mass, daily prayer and frequent recep-tion of the sacrament of reconciliation will help receive eternal life when our Heavenly Father calls you to eter-nity. DO YOUR BEST and love God with all your heart, mind, soul and your neighbors as yourself. Please keep me in your prayers as I begin my new pastoral work in Long Valley (only 30 min. from Rock-away), you are always more than welcome to come and visit me. May our Lord Jesus Christ and his Mother Blessed Virgin Mary bless you and protect you always. With love and prayers, Fr. Marcin

you to become visible in the Living Crown of Mary. We invite you

to join the Pauline Fathers and Brothers from the American Dzesto-

chowa located in Doylestown, PA, as they resolve to honor Mary in

this Jubilee year of the 300th anniversary of the Coronation of the

SAINT CECILIA CEMETERY – I used Memorial Day week-

end to announce an addition to the Saint Cecilia Cemetery. A

COLUMBARIUM is being constructed, off site, and will be

delivered to the cemetery sometime in August. A

“columbarium” is an above ground structure which houses the

ashes of the departed in individual compartments. Our colum-

barium will have 80 compartments which will be topped by a

statue of the Risen Christ. Around the structure will be the

words the Lord Jesus spoke to Martha in Bethany at the grave

of her brother Lazarus, “I am the Resurrection and the Life, he

who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.” (John

11:25) For those who choose cremation, the columbarium is

the place (along with the ground) which the Catholic Church

states is the proper place for the burial of the faithful de-

parted’s ashes. The columbarium will be placed on the left

side of the cemetery as you enter through the main gate. One

may purchase a burial niche as soon as the structure is in place

and after it has been blessed. Information regarding the price

for the burial spot will be announced in the coming weeks. For

further information you may speak to me or the cemetery ad-

ministrator, Mrs. Diane Boykow, by calling the parish office. –

580-St. Cecilia

We know they little about the life of St. Irenaeus, who is one of the most important theologians of the 2nd century. He was born about 130 in Asia Minor and placed in the care of St. Polycarp, the disciple of St. John the Apostle, and Bishop of Smyrna. He studied in Rome and later became a priest of Lyons in Gaul. In 178, he succeeded St. Pothinus as Bishop of Lyons.

Through his preaching he converted many of the Faith and his writings did much to combat the heresies that were rampant, especially those of the Gnostics and Valentinians. His principal works are: Against Heresies and The Proof of the Apostolic Preaching. Accordingly, he is regarded as a link between the East and West. He died a mar-tyr in 202 during the persecution of Septimus Severus.

PRAYER: God, you enabled St. Irenaeus, Your Bishop, to strengthen the truth of Faith and the peace of the Church. Through his intercession may we be renewed in Faith and love and always strive to foster unity and concord. Amen

ST. IRENAEUS, Bishop and Martyr June 28

My dear parishioners,

Today is the 12th Sunday in Ordinary Time as we gather to celebrate the Lord’s Day. In the Gospel reading we hear the Lord

Jesus speaking to His disciples regarding His expectations in their witness. He tells them, “What I say to you in the darkness,

speak in the light; what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops.” The proclamation of the Gospel is indeed the task of

all the baptized. However, for the clergy it becomes an evermore important part of life. The bishop, priest and deacon are all

commissioned through the sacrament of holy orders to fulfill the proclamation of the Gospel through their preaching and the

manner in which they live their lives. They are called upon to be brave and unrelenting in their pointing to Christ, the Way, the

Truth and the Life. Many times in their ministry they may find themselves at odds with those who wish that their witness was

unnoticeable. The strength and courage of the clergy are a blessing and a need for the Church especially in this world of secular-

ism and rationalism. Christian witness takes strength and we expect that from our clergy!

Each year at ordination time many parishes are affected by the transfer of clergy. This is a natural occurrence as new priests are

ordained and the elderly retire. Life is a constant movement and change, whether we like it or not. Today we say farewell to our

two parochial vicars, Father Marcin and Father Mateusz. On Thursday they begin their new assignments; Father Marcin as ad-

ministrator of two parishes in Long Valley, Our Lady of the Mountain Church and Saint Mark the Evangelist Church. Father

Mateusz goes off to serve as parochial vicar at Saint Philip the Apostle Church in Clifton. Both priests have served us so well,

Father Marcin for 6 years and Father Mateusz for 2 years. I know that you join with me in expressing our sincere gratitude to

them for witnessing to the Gospel and calling us to do the same.

Father Marcin’s departure is especially painful for me since we have been living together for 6 years. He has been my right hand

man. He has outlasted all other assistants and as a result of that has gained a tremendous amount of pastoral experience which is

why the Bishop has given him an assignment which is normally given to an older priest. Father Marcin is like a son to me and

now I know the heartbreak that comes to parents when a child leaves home.

I know that Father Marcin and Father Mateusz will do well in their new assignments. They have had good teachers here in Rock-

away, you-the wonderful parishioners of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and Saint Cecilia Church. We assure both priests we will

remember them in our prayers and look forward to their return visits home to us.

May the Lord be with us in all the changes and challenges of our lives. May we be strengthened by the Holy Spirit to be coura-

geous in our Christian witness. May Christ the Savior grant us His great and abundant blessings!

Father Zig
