RICE BOWL COLLECTION Thanks to all of you who participated in the Rice Bowl dur-ing Lent. We were happy to send $527.00 to Catholic Relief Services who provides lifesaving support to our brothers and sisters around the world. Jesus says in the Gospel “my sheep hear my voice and they follow me.” If we are Jesus’, then we have to follow him. We cannot pick and choose but have to follow him…especially in the areas of life that are most important and critical. I want to share with you a statement by the Bishops in regards to recent decisions of the governor. “Bishop Francis X. DiLorenzo, Diocese of Richmond, and Bishop Paul S. Loverde, Diocese of Arlington, today issued the following joint statement: Over the past two weeks, Governor Terry McAuliffe made three de-cisions that contradict life and liberty at their core. We are dismayed and deeply disappointed that he sided with the abortion industry over real health care centers, vetoed legislation that would have protected the right of religious organizations to follow their faith, and, instead of vetoing expanded use of the electric chair, inserted language that would shroud in secrecy the execution process. Governor McAuliffe chose a veto ceremony at a Planned Parenthood abortion center – where the lives of countless unborn children are snuffed out each year - to boast that he was “proud” to “smack down” legislation that would have diverted tax dollars away from the billion-dollar life-draining abortion industry and instead would have applied Virginia taxpayers’ hard-earned dollars toward life-affirming com-munity health centers that provide a broad range of real health care for women and their families. Only a day later, the governor also vetoed – live on WTOP radio – legislation that simply would have protected the right of religious organizations to follow their religious beliefs regarding marriage, applying the exact principles the founders of our Commonwealth and our country intended. Finally, last night, the governor refused to veto legislation patroned by Delegate Jackson Miller that would force the electric chair on those sentenced to death if the state says lethal injection drugs are “not available” after “reasonable efforts.” This action by the governor – and the General Assembly – ignores a very public plea Pope Fran-cis made earlier this year that government leaders carry out no execu-tions in this Year of Mercy and abolish the death penalty throughout the world. We are profoundly disappointed with Governor McAuliffe’s actions on these vital issues. Yet we will persist as people of faith in our ef-forts – in parishes and the public square - to ensure we protect life at the beginning, life at the end and religious liberty for all who serve to make life better for people in need.” I (Fr Rossi) have included the above statement from the Bishops so that you are aware of the absolutely horrific and terrible actions of our governor on these three issues. Protection of the unborn, religious liberty (our basic right to be able to practice our religion), and dimin-ishing the death penalty are paramount principles for Catholic life. The actions of our governor are a clear demonstration of how much an individual can deafen themselves to the voice to Our Shepherd Jesus Christ. Not only is the governor deaf to this Voice, he even boasts in his rejection of God’s call in these area of life. How terrible and sad. Please pray for our governor that he will have a complete change of heart. God Bless you and God love you. Fr. Rossi

National Day of Protest Against Planned Parent-hood-Richmond, VA Help Expose the Horror of Abortion and Bring an End to Planned Parenthood in our Nation! On April 23, 2016 pro-lifers across the country will con-duct the first annual nationwide protest at Planned Par-enthood facilities across the country, to be held on the 4th Saturday of April every year until the abortion chain no longer preys upon our communities. Planned Parenthood is the nation’s largest abortion pro-vider, responsible for over 320,000 babies dying each year. We must keep the pressure on and call on Congress and the States to cut off all government funding to Planned Parenthood. Event: National Day of Protest Against Planned Parenthood When: Saturday, April 23, 9:00-11:00 a.m. Where: Planned Parenthood, 201 N. Hamilton Street, Richmond, VA 23221 More Info: Call Leslie Blackwell at (804) 304-4712 or email: [email protected] Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/protestpprichmond
