AN EVENING HONORING OUR BLESSED MOTHER

Join us as we honor Mary and all moms and share the joys and challenges of motherhood. Light refreshments, coffee & tea will be served. If you have any questions, please email us at [email protected] or call Jean Tenaglia at 201-261-0595. Newcomers are always welcomed and encouraged to join us! Hope to see you there!

O BEAUTIFUL

MOTHER

Artist Andrzej Praszczyk, who retored our Stations of the Cross, designed and crafted the beautiful reliefs of the Holy Family in the Elm Street foyer of the church, and who is creating original stained glass windows for Mary’s Chapel, restored the statue of Our Blessed Mother that has stood in the preschool wing of Saint Joseph School for many years. Not only did he recast the statue (whose hands had been broken), but he painted it in glorious colors as well, as a gift to the parish.

PENTECOST SUNDAY ~ MAY 20, 2018

CATHOLIC WAR VETERANS CROSS OF PEACE

FUNDRAISER —JUNE 9-10

Members of Catholic War Veterans Fr. Washington Post #1710 will be at Saint Joseph Church during all Masses on the weekend of June 9-10 for their annual Cross of Peace Fundraiser to help all veterans including the disabled who reside at the New Jersey State Veterans Home in Paramus. 100% of your donations will be used for veterans’ needs at the home and for charities that help veterans. Veterans of the parish, men and women, are also invited to join the Catholic War Veterans. Members will be in the Harrison Street lobby with information and applications on the weekend of June 9-10, so please stop by after Mass to learn what the CWV does for our veterans and how you can join this truly unique organization. They will also be accepting your contributions at that time.

WHY PENTECOST SUNDAY IS IMPORTANT

The Easter Season concludes with Pentecost Sunday, the fiftieth day, and its commemoration of the outpouring of the

Holy Spirit on the apostles (cf. Acts 2:1–4),the Church’s foundation, and the beginning of its mission to all nations and peoples. The protracted celebration of the vigil Mass has a particular importance in our parish since it reflects the intense persevering prayer of the Christian community in imitation of the Apostles united in prayer with Mother of Jesus. The mystery of Pentecost urges us to prayer and commitment to mission and enlightens popular piety which is a “continued sign of the presence of the Holy Spirit in the Church. It awakens faith, hope and charity, in the hearts of the faithful throughout the world. Do not be afraid to invoke the Holy Spirit especially when initiating new undertakings or works or in times of particular difficulties in our lives. The third glorious mystery of the Holy Rosary invites us to meditate on the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. In Confirmation, we become conscious of receiving the Spirit of wisdom and counsel to guide and assist us; the Spirit of strength and light to help us make important decisions and to sustain the trials of our lives. We are also aware that through the Sacrament of Baptism, our bodies become temples of the Holy Spirit to be respected and honored, from natural conception to natural death, and we know that our body will be raised up on the last day through the power of the Holy Spirit. While the Holy Spirit gives access to communion with God in prayer, he also inspires us towards service of our neighbor by encountering him, by true conversion, by true reconciliation, by witness, by a desire for justice and peace, by renewal of outlook, by social progress and missionary commitment. May the Holy Spirit, animate, inspire, and guide us, and help us to be always true followers of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. Love,

Father Roy

FOR MONSIGNOR HUBBA Please continue to keep our pastor, Msgr. David Hubba, in your prayers. We ask God to bless him and grant him a full and speedy recovery.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION “There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord; there are different workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone.”

1 Corinthians 12:4-6 All of us are blessed, regardless of our own individual circumstances; God has given each of us many gifts. How we use those gifts is our gift back to God. For God’s plan to work, each must do what we are called to do and guess what—we are not all called to do the same thing!
