THE SECOND COLLECTION: Next weekend Missionary Appeal—Propagation of the Faith

Fr. Mark Hyde will be with us at all Masses next weekend July 28/29. He will speak to us about the many challenges missionaries face daily which we might take for granted. The second collection at each Mass next weekend will be sent to the Propa-gation of the Faith Office to support the needs of mission Dioceses and Religious Communities. Evangelization is at the heart of the Church’s mis-sion throughout the world, and we ask you to be as generous as your means allow in next week’s second collection.

PARISH OFFICE SUMMER HOURS

JULY & AUGUST

Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs 9:00 am- 4:30 pm

Fridays- 9:00 am- 2:00 pm

From the Desk of Fr. Lagiovane

I want to thank our Seminarian Nolan Beehan for his time here at St. Joseph’s. Nolan’s last day in the parish will be Sunday, July 22nd. Nolan will enjoy some vacation time and then in September begin a Pastoral Year in St John the Evangelist Parish in Goshen NY. We wish Nolan well as he continues his seminary for-mation. Nolan has been a wonderful addition to our parish these last 10 weeks. Let us pray for Nolan and for all seminarians that God bless and guide their vocations to the Holy Priesthood. As we approach the mid-summer months and you begin vacation time please remember St. Joseph’s Parish. I want to thank all of our parishioners who ensure that we receive their weekly contributions even when they are away. Your weekly contributions are vital to the work that we do here and we rely on your contributions each week to pay for the day in and day out operation of the parish. Once again I would ask you to consider utilizing WeShare for your weekly contributions. May God Bless you for your constant support and generosity.

Gratitude: Fortieth Ordination Anniversary

Dear Parish Family of St Joseph’s Church,

I wish to express my profound gratitude for the beautiful celebration of the 40th Anniversary of my Ordination to the Priesthood on Sunday, July 8th. I particularly thank our Pastor, Father John Lagiovane, for granting us this celebra-tion and providing for the Refreshments. I wish to thank all those who were able to attend the mass, as well as those who kept me in their prayers. I sincerely appreciate your generous gifts given to me. I pray that God returns your kindness in the same beautiful way it was giv-en. May the Lord continue to bless each and every one of you and your families.

Fr. Jude Aguwa

St. Joseph’s Catholic Men’s Fellowship

We are looking to start a Catholic men’s fellowship here at St. Joseph’s. It will offer an opportunity for men of the parish to share their faith and reflect on the Sacred Scriptures for the upcoming Sunday. We will gather in the name of Christ to share experienc-es, strength and hope, and prayerfully support one another in an atmosphere of trust and confidentiali-ty. Scripture readings and reflections will be used for each meeting. Any man 18 years or older is welcome to join us.

Our first meeting will be in September, 2018. We

will meet once a month on Saturdays from 8:30am– 9:30 am in the Meeting Room 1.

DRESS IN CHURCH

In the book of Ecclesiastes it is written in the third chapter, “There is an appropriate time for every-thing, and a time for every affair under the heavens. A time to be silent and a time to speak”. In other words everything has an appropriate place. I would add a time to dress up and a time to dress down.

We come now into the summer season, the season of flip-flops, shortshorts, tank tops and anything else that lets in the sun and cool breezes. The sea-son also brings the dilemma of what is appropriate dress. Are shorts appropriate at a wedding recep-tion, or job interview? Is wearing a suit and tie to the beach called for? Do we wear a dress or pants with shoes to bed and pajamas to the supermarket? I ask you to consider what you wear to worship your Creator. Is he important enough to dress up for? Oh, yes it is true that God loves us just the way we are. Saint Paul writes that because of his relation-ship with Jesus, he is free to do anything, but quali-fies that freedom, with his obligation not to offend or bring harm to others.

The question is, how much do we respect the love our Creator has for us: and are we willing to witness to others that respect, by our dress and behavior. There is a time for everything

PROGRAM?

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) A TWELVE WEEK PROGRAM
