On last Tuesday in ACT Legislative Assembly meeting the Labor Party with the support from the Green Party had managed to legalise same sex marriage by a narrow margin of one vote. The PM Abbott had submitted his objection to the High Court on this resolution, while the NSW senate is going to go through the same motion this week. Many in Canberra have already indicated that they would hold same sex marriage as when the legislation comes into effect by the end of the year.

Same sex marriage legislation has been a controversial global issue for quite some time. Many have mix up supporting same sex marriage with respecting the right of same sex couples. We acknowledge that same sex couples should not be discriminated to the extent that despite their unique sexual preference they should be treated alike in their other facets of life including their work performance or human right; yet that does not mean the society has to change for aligning them with the others.

Take an example of having male and female washrooms; unisex washrooms have recently emerged. The rationale being a unisex washroom can make those people with un-natural; gender upon medical operation feeling more comfortable. However that should not be taken as a justified cause to abolish the distinction between a male and a female toilet in the interest of all the rest.

By the same token, as the basis of any social morals, marriage is deemed to be a contractual relation between a male and a female. Many same sex couples in flighting for parity treatment in the society would aim to legalise same sex marriage. This is just happening in the Canberra legislation change. I would however reckon the relation between a couple of the same sex cannot be effectively regarded as a marriage by default; hence there is no justified cause for us to change the fundamental basis of a marriage relation in order to make them feeling more comfortable as with all the others.

Jesus teaching could get distorted at times. Say Jesus asks the sinners to repent while he never rejects them and even dies for them on the Cross. He asks the rich not to count on their wealth and power while he keeps connecting with them too. Likewise, I believe would accept same sex couples as with accepting all other sinners (who fail by God's standard). But it is all different when it comes to legalising same sex marriage in our society. For clarity purpose and for up keeping the default meaning of marriage (where a man marries woman), it would be desirable for the same sex couples or their supporters to come up with other alternatives to formalise their desired relationship.
