On last weekend Sameway set up a stall in the Lunar New Year

Bazaar at Boxhill where we were giving out Bibles (Revised Union

version) to non-believers and we were selling out two tonnes of

rice donated by our client for flood disaster fund-raising purpose.

In last October Rejoice organisation had launched a ‘Bible as a

gift’ campaign where with every donation of five dollars from a

church member we would be despatching a NT bible to a

non-Christian through various community channels. We had

some good responses; yet there were still many Christians in

support of the idea but missed out because the campaign call

did not filter down in many churches. It was a pity that as

churches grow in size, communication becomes harder.

On the day we finished giving out all the bibles we gathered

through donation. Everyone who came into our stall was given a

booklet ‘Guidelines, Promises’ newly published by Rejoice. The

booklet, well received by all our visitors, contains many guidelines

of life as revealed by the Bible. When asked about whether they

had been to churches many said ‘no’; when offered with a copy

of our bible, many felt interested to have a check. But due to the

not very encouraging support so far from churches in this Bible

campaign, we ran out of our stock fairly early. I hope over the next

few months more supportive Christians would respond to the

campaign so that more non-believers of our community could lay

their hands on a reader-friendly Bible.

What really amazed me was the vast number of non-believers in

our community who had never come across the Bible. As we

Christians spend much of our time with fellow Christians from

churches we might have overlooked the many non-believers

around us who might be receptive to gospel but merely awaiting

the opportunities of the exposure.

On the other hand, the rice on sale was in high demand because

of the good value for money and the kind intent of the appeal.

In spite of the scorching heat of the day, this out-reach activity

had proved to be very meaningful for our very achievements that

we were handing out life guidelines to everyone as well as Bibles

to non-Christians, and that we were.
