Face Masks/Shields
Respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs, sneezes, breathes or talks, even from those who show no
symptoms or have yet to show symptoms, are the main route COVID-19 is transmitted between people. This is
more likely when within 6 feet of an infected individual. Masks are used as a barrier to prevent these droplets
from dispersing into the air. The use of a face mask and/or shield can help prevent the spread of the virus to our
students, staff, and community.
Masks include non-medical grade disposable face masks, cloth face coverings that cover the mouth and
nose, or clear full-face shields.
All students, employees, and visitors will be required to wear face masks prior to entering a campus or
boarding District transportation unless:
o Younger than 10 years of age, but is still encouraged
o Any person obtaining a service that requires the temporary removal of a face covering (a face
shield is recommended for use at this time if possible)
o They are alone in a classroom or office,
o They have a medical condition or disability that prevents wearing a face covering,
o They are consuming food or drink, or
o They are exercising outdoors or engaging in physical activity outdoors and maintaining a safe
distance from other people not in the same household
Students, employees, and visitors are expected to wear face masks or shields
COVID-19 Symptoms
In evaluating whether an individual has symptoms consistent with COVID-19, the following will be considered:
Have you recently begun experiencing any of the following in a way that is not normal for you?
Feeling feverish or a measured temperature greater than or equal to 100.0°F
Loss of taste or smell
Cough
Difficulty breathing
Shortness of breath
Headache
Chills
Sore throat
Shaking or exaggerated shivering
Significant muscle pain or ache
Diarrhea
Individuals are presumed infectious at least two days prior to the onset of symptoms or, in the case of
asymptomatic individuals who are lab-confirmed to have COVID-19, two days prior to the confirming lab
results.
Individuals Confirmed, Suspected, or Exposed to COVID-19
Any individuals who themselves, either
o Are lab-confirmed to have COVID-19; or
Updated July 16th, 2020 2:51 p.m.
o Experience the symptoms of COVID-19 must stay at home throughout the recommended period
and cannot return to school until the district screens the individual to determine that the
conditions for campus re-entry (listed below) have been met:
Any individuals who have close contact with someone who is lab-confirmed to have COVID-19 as
determined by the public health agency, should stay at home through the 14-day incubation period and
will not be allowed on campus.
o If close contact with the case continues for the duration of the illness, such as living in the same
household, the individual must be quarantined for 14 days from the date that the case is released
from isolation. This means that certain close contacts may need to remain home longer than the
initial case.
o Campuses will screen individuals after the incubation period has concluded. If the individual did
not experience COVID-19 symptoms during that period, they will be allowed re-entry to the
campus. If the individual experienced symptoms, they must stay at home until the conditions
outlined for re-entry (listed below) criteria have been met.
Re-entry Criteria
In the case of an individual who was diagnosed with COVID-19, the individual may return to school
when all of the following criteria have been met:
o At least three days (72 hours) have passed since recovery (free of fever without the use of fever-
reducing medications); AND
o The individual has improvement in symptoms; AND
o At least ten days have passed since symptoms first appeared; AND
o Be able to provide clearance from a physician or the local health district
In the case of an individual who has symptoms that could be COVID-19, such an individual is presumed
positive of having COVID-19, and the individual may not return to the campus until completing the 14-
day incubation period and meeting ALL re-entry criteria as listed above.
If the individual has symptoms that could be COVID-19 and wants to return to campus before
completing the 14-day incubation period, the individual must either
o Obtain a physician’s note clearing the individual for return based on an alternative diagnosis, OR
o Receive two separate confirmations at least 24 hours apart from an approved testing site, that
both yield negative results.
Procedures to Respond to a Lab-Confirmed Case in a School
The campus nurse must notify the local health district, GCHD, and obtain any necessary additional
guidance.
Schools must close off areas heavily used by the individual until those areas can be disinfected, unless
more than 3 days have already passed since that person was on campus.
Schools will notify all campus employees and families of all students in a school if at lab-confirmed
COVID-19 case is identified among students or campus employees who participate in any on-campus
activities.

Social-Emotional Learning Definition-Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which
children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show
empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
Systemic Approach to Social-Emotional Learning in SFISD- SEL is more than just a 30-minute lesson. A
systemic approach to SEL intentionally cultivates a caring, participatory, and equitable learning environment
and evidence-based practices that actively involve all students in their social, emotional, and academic
growth. This approach infuses social and emotional learning into every part of students’ daily lives—across
all of their classrooms, during all times of the school day, and when they are in their homes and
communities.

Digital Instruction
In preparation for the 2020-2021 school year, Santa Fe ISD will provide and an option for instruction via digital
format. Final decisions for offering digital instruction will be made based on the number of students who enroll
and acceptance of the specific procedures and guidelines
Grades 3-12 Digital, Synchronous Instruction - Two-way, real-time/live, digital instruction between teachers and
students when students are not on campus. Students are expected to be actively engaged in learning with their
teacher during a specific time during the school day. (More guidelines and conditions provided soon.
Expectations for digital learning in the 2020-2021 school year are far more specific for students to be awarded
credit and attendance.)
Secondary Specifics
Students enrolled in certain performance-based electives will be required to attend class at times.
These times can be worked out with the teacher to limit exposure. (For example, welding classes will
require hands-on work with an instructor.) Course requirements will be sent out in the future.
o SFJH students will attend core classes at their scheduled time (synchronous); some elective
classes may be asynchronous.
Secondary students will be required to log into the virtual classroom during the originally scheduled
class time for all classes. If they do not, it will constitute an absence for that class. Student attendance
is required like that of the face-to-face student.
o Teachers will be required to have a webcam on during instruction. This webcam will capture
the instruction for students who have been quarantined, are sick from other illnesses and
want to still be counted present, and students who have chosen virtual learning.
o Teachers will load all assignments on Canvas to make them available to all students.
o Teachers will ask questions of all students in the classroom virtually and in person. Therefore,
students will be required to respond during class.
o Teachers will be required to take attendance virtually when the student logs on, just as they
would if they were present in the classroom.
If a student has internet difficulty during scheduled class time, he/she will be
considered absent for that class period. They will be required to make up the work.
Students will be given a hotline number if they are experiencing internet interruption
to avoid an absence. Students must call within the first 10 minutes of class to report
the problem. Too many situations like this may result in the student being required to
attend in person.
Students participating in sports may also enroll in virtual instruction. However, they will need to be
enrolled in the correct class and attend practices. Coaches will communicate in-person attendance
expectations.
o A computer check out will occur before school starts and Hot spots may be available for
students without internet. This will make virtual learning available for all learners.
If hot spots are not available, computer labs may be opened. All safety protocols will
be enforced as well as social distancing.
o Teachers will provide synchronous education in core classrooms.
Updated July 16th, 2020 2:51 p.m.
o Electives may be asynchronous.
o Teachers will provide the following:
Videos and or live demonstrations of material
Two-way instruction: Teachers must provide question/answer/feedback processes in
real-time
Assignments and assessments will be loaded on Canvas and students will receive
feedback.
Accommodations/modifications will be documented.
Staff may work in the building and safety guidelines will be in place.
Attendance—Teachers will take attendance during the class session and feedback
time.
o Students will be able to participate in practice for sports and UIL performance-based classes
during these 3 weeks. UIL Guidelines must be followed.
o Administrators will visit the virtual classrooms to make sure the instruction is quality and the
teacher is meeting all SFTAS guidelines.
Teacher in-service will include:
o Canvas live chat features
o Protocols for question/answer time virtually
o Assessment features to ensure student academic honesty
o Accommodations and modifications will be provided and documented
Virtual Instruction Requirements:
Virtual instruction in the 2020-2021 school year in Santa Fe ISD will include specific time attendance
requirements. Students must have access to the following:
Broadband internet access
Laptop or desktop computer for use a minimum of 4 hours each school day (Monday-Friday)
The laptop or computer must be able to run live streaming, video, and have the capability for the
student to respond through live chat and video.
In addition, the following options will be considered before a student’s enrollment in virtual instruction:
The student had passing grades at the end of the 2019-2020 school year in all subjects.
o If an SFJH student failed a core course in 2019-20, they will need administrative approval for
virtual learning.
Santa Fe ISD students receiving specialized instruction may be required to attend in person with all
safety measures in place.
o SPED/ESL/504 Accommodations and modifications will be updated according to digital
capabilities.
To continue in digital learning once enrolled, the following requirements will be considered:
The student will participate in all required coursework and virtual lessons during normal school hours.
The student will have passing grades at the end of each grading period (failure to have passing grades
will result in being unenrolled in digital learning and enrollment in face-to-face learning at their assigned
school).
Updated July 16th, 2020 2:51 p.m.
The student will participate in all tutoring sessions required by the teachers.
For accelerated and advanced high school weighted courses, students will need to be able to come to a
designated campus on assigned days and times to take assessments on units of study.
Social/Emotional Needs—SFISD understands that situations like a Pandemic are considered to a trauma event for
students and staff. Therefore, the following measures will be put in place to support the emotional wellbeing of our
learning community.
Staff will receive training on Social Emotional Learning, Trauma-informed Practices, Counselor support training,
and promoting a positive culture.
Students will also receive training based on campus needs and 7-Mindsets.
Parent-trainings will be offered throughout the year.
o Wellness counselors are available, as needed. Appointments can also be made.
Grading
The evaluation of student learning through grading and assessment will follow the same grading guidelines as face
to face grading guidelines established on each campus.

If a teacher is physically sick, another teachers lesson can be broadcast into that classroom if there is a
partner teacher.
o If there is not another teacher who teaches the course, sub plans will be utilized.
Virtual Instruction
In preparation for the 2020-2021 school year, Santa Fe ISD will provide and an option for instruction via virtual
format.
Grades PK-2 Virtual Synchronous/Asynchronous Instruction- Teacher driven instruction with a blend of real-
time/self-paced learning. (Guidelines will be updated and published. Expectations for virtual learning in the 2020-
2021 school year are far more specific for students to be awarded credit and attendance.)
(For example, welding classes will
require hands on work with an instructor.) Course requirements will be sent out.
o Administration and counselors will publish a list of these courses two weeks before the start
of school.
Secondary students will be required to log into the virtual classroom during the original scheduled class
time for all classes. If they do not, it will constitute as an absence for that class. Student attendance is
required like that of the face-to-face student.
o Teachers will be required to have a webcam on them during instruction. This webcam will
capture the instruction for student who have been quarantined, are sick from other illnesses
and want to still be counted present, and students who have chosen virtual learning.
o Teachers will load all assignments on Canvas to make them available to all students.
o Teachers will ask questions of all student in the classroom virtually and in person. Therefore,
students will be required to respond during class.
o Teachers will be required to take attendance virtually when the student logs on, just as they
would if they were present in the classroom.
If a student has internet difficulty during the class, this will be considered an absence.
They will be required to make up the work
Students will be given a hotline number if this happens in order to not get the
absence. Students must call within the first 10 minutes of class to report the
problem. Too many situations like this may result in the student being
required to attend in person.
Students participating in sports may enroll in virtual instruction. However, they will need to be enrolled
in the correct class, attend practices, and meet eligibility requirements. Coaches will communicate in-
person attendance expectations.

Plans for virtual learning:
o Computer check out will occur prior to school and Hot spots may be available for students
without internet. This will make virtual learning available for all learners.
If hot spots are not available. Computer labs may be opened for students to access.
All safety protocols will be enforced as well as social distancing.
o Teachers will provide Synchronous education in core classrooms.
o Electives maybe asynchronous.
Electives may need to schedule times around core classes to work with students on
curriculum that must be taught in person. (Welding/Lab Classes requiring SFISD
equipment)
o Teachers will must provide the following:
Videos and or live demonstrations of material
Two-way instruction: Teachers must provide question/answer/feedback processes in
real time.
Assignments and assessments will be loaded on Canvas and students will receive
feedback.
Accommodations/modification will be documented.
Adults may work in the building and safety guidelines will be in place.
Attendance—Teachers will take attendance during the class session and feedback
time.
o Students will be able to participate in practice for sports and UIL performance based classes
during this 3-week period. UIL Guidelines must be followed.
o Administrators will visit the virtual classrooms in order to make sure the instruction is quality
and the teacher is meeting all SFTAS guidelines.
Teacher in service will include:
o Canvas Live Chat features
o Protocols for question/answer time virtually
o Assessment features to ensure student academic honesty
o Accommodation and Modification in a virtual environment
Dual credit & Collegiate HS: Students enrolled in classes at College of the Mainland must follow their
protocols. Currently COM will use a hybrid method. Please see their website for specifics.

In addition, the following requirements may be considered before a student can be enrolled:
The student had passing grades at the end of the 2019-2020 school year in all subjects.
o HS—If a HS student did fail a course, they will need administrative approval for digital
learning.
Santa Fe ISD students receiving specialized instruction may be required to attend in person with all
safety measures in place.
o HS—SPED/ESL/504 Accommodations and modifications will be updated according to digital
capabilities.
In order to continue in digital learning once enrolled, the following requirements may be considered:
The student will participate in all required coursework and digital lessons during normal school hours.
The student will have passing grades at the end of each grading period (failure to have passing grades
will result in being unenrolled in digital learning and enrollment in face-to-face learning at their assigned
school).
The student will participate in all tutoring sessions required by the teachers.
For accelerated and advanced high school weighted courses, students will need to be able to come to a
designated campus on assigned days and times to take assessments on units of study.
Social/Emotional Needs—SFISD understands that situations like a Pandemic are considered to a trauma events for
students and staff. Therefore, the following measures will be put in place to support the emotional wellbeing of our
learning community.
Staff will receive training on Social Emotional Learning, Trauma-informed Practices, Counselor support training,
and promoting a positive culture.
Students will also receive training based on campus needs and the 7-Mindsets.
Parents trainings will be offered throughout the year.
o HS—Wellness counselors are still on call as needed. Appointments can also be made.
Grading
The evaluation of student learning through grading and assessment will follow the original grading guidelines for
face-to-face and virtual learners.
High School Courses:
GPA will be included for the digital learning platform as it will be for the in-person learning.
SFISD is not sure if NCAA will accept the digital learning platform to meet their requirements. Until then,
it is encouraged that athletes expecting to play sport at the collegiate level attend our traditional
classroom.

Special Services Plan Special Education, 504 (including dyslexia), and English Learners, services will be provided through face to face
or virtual instruction. Progress will be monitored regularly to ensure we are meeting the needs of all students.
All ARD/IEP and 504 plans will be reviewed and revised as needed to meet the needs of all students in the
preferred mode of instruction. All Admission, Dismissal and Review (ARD)/Individual Education Plan (IEP), and
504 meetings will be virtual to minimize social interactions.
Students who receive Special Education Services will have a commensurate schedule as those in general
education, unless otherwise noted in the student’s ARD/IEP based upon the individual student’s needs.
Inclusion opportunities may be limited based on recommendations by Texas Education Agency (TEA) and
Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines as well as the Texas Governor’s recommendations. ARD/IEP
meetings will be held to ensure that your child's Individual Education Plan will provide a free appropriate
education. Some on site inclusion activities may be adjusted to continue to follow the most current
TEA/CDC/Governor's recommendations to support the health safety of staff and students, such as:
o Eating breakfast/lunch in the classroom
o Fine Arts within the classroom
o Physical Education within the classroom
o Modified recess
o Minimized transitions to multiple classrooms
Student progress will be monitored regularly, and ARD/IEP meetings will be scheduled when necessary to
reflect what supports and services the student requires for FAPE whether attending school through face to
face or virtual instruction.
Overview of Provision of Services for Face to Face Instruction:
Our priority is to keep our students and staff healthy, and we will be taking measures to wear proper attire and sanitize materials often. We are following all Texas Education Agency (TEA) and Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines as well as the Texas Governor’s recommendations. Students with disabilities will follow the SFISD re-entry safety guidelines as general education students with special consideration given to meet their individual needs based on the students'/IEP or 504 Plan. We will be implementing the following safety measures to support the health safety of our staff and students:
Face coverings are required to any student 10 years of age or older, however; exemptions will be given
to any person 10 years or older with an identified medical condition or disability
Face coverings will be supplied, masks and shields will be available; however, you may supply a face
covering from home
Visual supports will be posted throughout the classroom to support the health safety expectations

Materials will be sanitized between the use of students
Desks will be spaced based on individual needs of students and available space in each learning
environment
Maintain same grouping of staff and students
Service providers will develop schedules that maximize time in a single classroom and minimize the number of
rooms visited per day
Temperatures will be monitored for all students with a medical condition or disability which inhibits
their ability to communicate their health needs
Provide personal protective equipment (PPE) to staff and students to assist students with self-help
activities such as feeding, hygiene needs, transfers, etc....
Face shields provided to teachers to support the learning needs of students receiving special education
services in self-contained instructional settings, speech therapy, occupational/physical therapy, or staff
supporting students of the deaf or hard of hearing
Frequent handwashing and hand sanitizer will be scheduled daily
Transitions will follow campus guidelines
Follow all district and campus guidelines
Overview of Provision of Services for Virtual Instruction (Synchronous/Asynchronous Instruction)
All ARD/IEP and 504 plans will be reviewed and revised to support the virtual learning needs of our students.
Virtual instruction limits the physical interactions socially and academically between peers and staff;
therefore, the IEP may need revisions to support this learning platform. The following services will be
provided:
Lessons will be accommodated as appropriate and indicated in the students’ ARD/IEP or 504 plans
Lessons will be modified as appropriate and indicated in the students’ ARD/IEP
Student progress will be monitored regularly to ensure the implementation of the students’ ARD/IEP or
504 plans
Special Education teachers will collaborate with General Education teachers to ensure lessons are
designed to meet the needs of all students with academic services
Service providers such as Speech, Occupational/Physical Therapy, Adaptive PE, etc... will provide
indirect/direct services as appropriate to follow the students’ ARD/IEP
Dyslexia services will be provided virtually
PLEASE NOTE: The details and information provided in this document are subject to change as directives are
provided by governing authorities and/or health officials or as environmental conditions change during this
time. The health safety of staff, students, and their families is a top priority.

SFISD will provide hand sanitizers for each classroom. We are exploring hand pumps and wall mounted
types. If we use hand pumps we will provide two per classroom. When one is empty they will place it
on a prescribed location and the bottle will be refilled overnight. We will have wall mounted hand
sanitizer dispensers located at exterior entrances, cafeterias, gyms, and Libraries.
Santa Fe ISD will continue cleaning under our flu protocol practices which cleans desks daily, frequently
wiping down common touch areas throughout the day, and cleaning nightly common touch areas.
SFISD will provide microfiber rags and disinfectant for each teacher for their classrooms to wipe down
surfaces during the day. Teachers will be provided training for use of the sanitizer. Rags will be placed
into a receptacle near designated exits as the teachers leave the building at the end of the day, clean
rags will be provided to each classroom, and used rags will be laundered nightly. Bottles of sanitizer
will be filled, as necessary or weekly, whichever is a shorter period and placed back in the classrooms.
Campuses that have a suspected COVID-19 case will be sanitized with an electronic misting machine in
the areas that the individual was located
Restrooms will be sanitized nightly and throughout the day, as per SFISD standard flu protocol.
Cafeteria tables will be wiped down after each group of students leaves the table and at the end of
each breakfast or lunch period with a disinfectant product.
Restrooms with multiple sink locations will have every other sink turned off to provide social
distancing. In restrooms that have only two sinks, each sink will remain operational.

Transportation Department
A survey 0f 2019-2020 registered riders will assess the anticipated ridership for the 2020-2021 school
year.
All drivers will wear masks and/or shields, unless medically inadvisable.
Area behind the driver will be vacant.
If a student has visible symptoms, the driver will call dispatch. To protect student privacy rights, the
driver will secure the bus and contact dispatch via cell phone. Dispatch will call parent to see if the
student can be picked up by parent from the stop or is able to return home. In the event the parent
cannot be contacted, the student will be asked to wear a mask, and distancing from others will be
achieved without causing undue distress for the student in question. Dispatch will notify campus the
student is being transported to school because the parent could not be contacted. Campus personnel
meet the bus to receive that student.
Riders 10 years of age and older will wear masks in compliance with Governor Abbott’s Executive Order.
Riders under 10 years of age will be strongly encouraged to wear masks. Masks should be applied before
entering the bus and must remain in place for the entirety of the ride including exit. Non-compliance
with the Executive Order will follow the regular chain of disciplinary procedures.
Hand sanitizer will be available as students enter and exit the bus.
All routes will have assigned seats.
Students will sit in the window and aisle seats and skip the middle seat.
Bus windows will be down to increase the flow of fresh air, except where heavy rains necessitate
windows up.
Riders will be dismissed according to direction provided by campus personnel. Campuses will contact
individual bus via 2-way radio identifying route/bus number that they are ready to receive. Campus
personnel will identify themselves with campus name and last name of person calling to avoid confusion
and cross talk.
Delays in departure may cause delays in beginning the cleaning process; thereby, delaying the
subsequent run. Drivers will radio the next campus after cleaning is completed and they have departed,
notifying them of the approximate number of minutes student arrival will be delayed.
Drivers will receive instruction/training on cleaning of the buses.
Buses will be cleaned and wiped down between Secondary and Elementary routes.
Buses will be sanitized as part of the completion of morning and afternoon shifts.
