FTR MEMBERS: My name is Randy Faul and I am running for FTR
President. I have been a member of FTR since the early 80s and have held multiple positions. I began as an Area
Director, served as Hare Scrambles Referee, Hare Scrambles Chairman
and then President. I have also been an active member of the Sarasota Area Dirt Riders Club for about 20 years and currently serve as their
President. I have been involved with motorcycles all of my life. I started
out racing motocross in the 70s then moved into offroad in the 80s. I experienced the early days of FTR when we had just one day of racing
and approximately 15 classes with regular visits to River Ranch, West Palm Beach,
Arcadia KOA and the Kirkton Ranch in Okeechobee. I still ride today. I compete in the Golden Master A class, ride a little
motocross and even though it’s been awhile, a few enduros. I haven’t found
anything that compares to offroad riding. The Florida Trail Rider organization has
become my family, my home and my life. We have grown from the one-day event (of
maybe 100 riders) to our two-day format with entries between 600 to 700 riders. We
are growing tremendously and with that come new opportunities.
I’ve noticed lately that there seems to be something missing within our organization,
perhaps it’s a pulse, a certain energy or enthusiasm, and it seems like the “fun
factor” might just be diminishing. So with that, I started thinking. What is it that draws
us all together as a community? Together we celebrate the highs while banding
together to console the lows. I believe it is a shared vision. It’s the fist pump across
the finish line and the close call that almost ended your day. It begins with the courage
to merely begin, then shifts to pursuit the finish with finally a commitment to win. I would like to think of it as a link to each
and every one of us who has experienced the passion and drive to succeed. Whether
it’s on the seat, support in the pits or merely words of encouragement before and
after the race. Understand this; the Florida Trail Riders organization is its membership.
It is you, your sons, your daughters, your friends and relatives. Your commit and
sacrifice to the pursuit of both competition and sportsmanship. So with that, I would
like to ask you, our community, where would you like to see FTR in 1 year, 3
years, and 5 years? Fresh, new creative and exciting ideas need to be brought forth and acted upon as we must move forward
to insure our existence and its sustainability in an effort to maintain a strong foundation
for our future. Now is the time to let your voices be heard. You are the FTR. I would appreciate the opportunity to once again
serve as your future President.
Sincerely,rAndy FAul

Mrs. and Mr. randy Faul at the Ftr banquet in august. | Dekmar photo
Hello FTR Family,
First, I want to say thank you to the many who attended the banquet this year. It is always
great to see our racing friends in a different more like “clean” venue. It’s funny to say to someone, “I didn’t recognize you without your helmet on!”
I also want to say thank you to the many volunteers who worked to make the banquet possible.
Your time and efforts are greatly appreciated. Again, thank you.
Speaking of “thank you’s,” I want to thank South East Florida Trail Riders, Big Scrub and the
Nature Coast Trail Riders for their contribution to Off-Road Racing Ministries this summer. We really appreciate you and what you do for the Florida Trail Riders Organization.
If you are new to the FTR Hare Scrambles Series, I want to let you know that we (Off-Road Racing Ministries) offer a church service on Saturday night from 7:30 to 8 p.m. Bring
your chair and meet some new friends. We have a great time and it is only 30 minutes of your evening.
Well, our season is certainly off to a hot start. If you did not attend the opening round of the Florida Trail Rider Hare Scrambles Series, you missed a
humdinger! River City Dirt Riders put on one heck of an event. What was special about it? Lots of woods! I loved it! How about that weather? Can you say HOT! Maybe I am just getting older, but I think that was the hottest event I can ever recall. I forgot to ask if anyone used the water station that was set up on the course during the race. To those that competed that weekend (on Saturday and at the Sunday 10:30 race), you know just how hot it was. Finishing was a great accomplishment. At the 1 o’clock Sunday race, What a twist of turns. The sky grew dark and the temperature dropped along with the rain. Somewhere between half way and the end, the race was called due to lightning. Again, what a weekend!
Those of you who were at the River City race also know that one of our own, Matt Dennison (Super Senior C racer) had a heart attack. It occurred after he came off
the course. He was hanging with his wife and some friends when it happened. Thankfully his friends immediately began CPR. Kudos to them and our medical team for going above and beyond. Matt is still in a Jacksonville hospital. I have been keeping tabs on him daily. Please pray for him and his wife Kathy. They have two children. At the time of this article, recovery looks good!
At the Hare Scrambles this season, you will probably see me sweeping after some of the races. I enjoy hanging out with friends and helping our local clubs. If by chance
you happen to break down during a Hare Scrambles, please stay with your bike. This is important if we are to get you the help you need. I look forward to working with the clubs and you.
If you are at the age where you can call yourself a Vet Rider, by now you have probably discovered that there are days when things do not go as planned. Life throws you
a curve ball. There may have been a time when you woke up one morning and you said to yourself, this cannot be my life. What do you do? For some, their only relief from the pain of the situation might be to turn to some form of substance like drugs or alcohol. Some fill the need to sink themselves deeper into their work while others mask it with giving themselves objects of their passion. Either way, the relief is only temporary. It soon wears off and the pain is still there. Meanwhile perhaps your health, marriage or family has suffered and been left in the wake. What you need is someone to stand in the gap for you. You need an advocate. Someone who knows, understands, and most importantly loves you just as you are. That individual is Jesus Christ. He does not make your problems go away; He is here to help you through them. Did you know that He wants to be your constant friend? If you do not have a personal relationship with Him like I do, all you have to do is ask. Begin the racing season a little different this year. Partner with Christ.
I will see you on the line!Your friend,Andy DicksonFTR ChaplainSuper Senior A #121 offroadracingministries.org

JACOb GilliAm: It’s a good time to say some nice things about Michael Goodman.
I met Mike racing and we became pretty good friends. We loved to talk about
all of the things that no one else likes to talk about. Religion, politics, education, etc. Mike invited me to dinner one day and asked if I were going to race the upcoming season. I replied no and that it was just too expensive. He said, “What if money wasn’t an issue?” That was the start of a fully sponsored season aboard the Husky. He said he wanted me to ride the Husky because he wanted it to stand out. But he made it clear that if I truly felt it was holding me back, he would gladly buy a Japanese bike of my choice to race. Whenever I would thank him for his generosity, he would try to explain to me an idea that he convinced me was 100 percent true and I relay it often to others: There is no such thing
as pure benevolence. He explained that whenever someone is doing something generous, it is because it makes them feel good. He didn’t want “thank you” from me, because doing this nice thing for me made him feel good. He picked me just because he felt I was able to compete in AA and that I didn’t have the same resources that some of the others in the class had.
I spent a lot of time with him of course that year. We rode to almost
all of the races together, ate all of the weekend meals together and drank a lot of beer together. Do you know how many times I heard him raise his voice? Zero. I challenge anyone to give me an example of him being aggressive, violent, controlling or the like. He was a pioneer of self improvement, substituting cable TV for learning an instrument. He claimed not having cable was his method of “preservation of intelligence”

“I have a lot of pics of him on two wheels, as you never knew when or what he would make the bike do... Awesome
pic of Iron Man Mike.” Jonny Simpkins
“I met MIke several years ago at a Hare Scrambles and he was quick to help out a newbie with sincere and helpful advice. What a great guy and a super racer. I
remember watching him FLY around the infield motocross section at Brooksville and thinking what a super loose, on the edge style he had. He looked like he would crash at any second and instead, he just twisted the throttle and got after it harder...He was really exciting to watch.” Thomas Glancy

I’ll highlight some of the more generous things that I’ve seen him do in the short time I’ve known him:
When the Husky would be out of service, we would rent a KTM from
Ben Jacob Designs. At one specific race, the KTM broke down on the first lap, and the owner insisted that Mike didn’t pay him. This started a 15 minute back-and-fourth of Mike writing checks and David tearing them up. Mike was a big fan of someone like David who had a creative business and was willing to sacrifice most commodities to see it succeed. Mike wanted him to succeed, and he wanted that check to get cashed and help him. Again, he wasn’t being benevolent. It made him feel good knowing that BJD had a profitable weekend.
The Husky broke down about 4 miles into a practice lap one race. Hundreds
of riders passed me while I was waiting for a tow. When Mike came around he calmly asked, “Oh darn. This thing acting up again?” He kicked it for a bit and got off. He told me to finish the practice lap on his bike, and he would push the Husky back to the pits and make sure it was running before race time. I tried to tell him that was absurd and that I would just wait patiently for a tow but it was too late. Off he went, pushing a TXC510 down the trail. When I got back from practice, he had 100AA ready to stick on whatever bike I wanted, including his own if I admitted liking it.
I just realized that I can’t list everything. Mike even purchased health insurance
that year for me that would cover any racing accidents. He had everything covered because it made him feel good.
I ’m glad I knew him, and I’m happy that I learned what I did from him.

editor’S note: I attended the celebration of life for Michael Goodman and want to thank everyone who showed up to share laughs and tears for The Ironman. Most remember a time or place when Michael left us an impression with his giving spirit and smiling attitude. We will miss you at the races, Mike. I will miss you coming by on the last lap of the morning race to pass me like I was a FTR arrow stapled to a tree. (I stole that analogy from someone at the service who recalled Mike passing them, too.) I’ll never forget Mike’s manner or style off the bike as well and how he always arrived dressed to impress. What a guy. RIP, Mike. - JS
“While I’m sure there is so much more you CAN say...
What you said sums up Mike and the way he lived his life perfectly. There
is not another Mike Goodman out there and I know my family is deeply
saddened by this, as I know many others are as well. What a guy.....what
a loss.” Darla Carter
“He didn’t just ride it. He put it to
work. I could never understand how he could go so fast with his riding style. It made me nervous riding behind him because he always looked on the verge of a yard sale. And I always gave him plenty of room when I had to get around. I will certainly miss lining up next to him on Saturdays.”

We urge you not to compete in motor sports without adequate personal medical coverage as the promoter does not provide medical insurance coverage. The Suncoast Trail Blazers M/C, FTR, SE&TRA, AMA and the Division of Forestry are not experts in laying out and sponsoring an Enduro and I know the risk and danger to myself, so I voluntarily and in reliance upon my own judgment and ability, assume all risk for loss, damage or injury (including death) to myself and my property for any cause whatsoever. The course is dangerous. Not all obstacles may be marked, so ride carefully.
