February 21, 2018 Dear Members, We are excited to present to you the three finalists for the position of Senior Rabbi of the Riverdale Jewish Center (RJC). The Rabbinic Search Committee has worked diligently over the past several months and has identified three rabbis with the skills and other characteristics necessary to lead, teach, and inspire our congregation. With the benefit of data from the RJC member survey, the committee conducted a thorough screening process of many qualified candidates, which included candidate interviews and reference checks. The committee ran the process with the utmost confidentiality and sensitivity for all parties involved. The three finalists and the weekends they will visit RJC are: Rabbi Moshe Davis - Shabbat, February 23-24 Rabbi Yonah Gross - Shabbat, March 2-3 Rabbi Philip Moskowitz - Shabbat, March 16-17

Biographies of the three finalists are below.

There will be multiple opportunities during each Shabbat to learn from, observe, and interact with each candidate. We encourage the entire membership to attend as many of these events as possible so that each individual can form a full understanding of what each candidate could offer our community. Prior to each Shabbat, we will send an email containing a full schedule. Shortly after each Shabbat, a link to a survey will be disseminated to the membership. We are very much hoping for strong participation in the survey, as this is an important mechanism for us to understand the community’s feelings toward each candidate. The survey will be kept open until the Monday evening after each probah. The Senior Rabbi will be selected at a special meeting of the congregation. We expect this special meeting to be held before Pesach. We thank the entire community for its support and patience these past several months while we went through the process of interviewing candidates and selecting these three finalists. This is a very exciting time for RJC. We look forward to each of you having the opportunity to meet these special rabbis, and to one of them joining us as Senior Rabbi this coming summer. The RJC Executive Committee Finalists for RJC’s Senior Rabbi Position Rabbi Moshe Davis Rabbi Moshe Davis, originally from Chicago, has served as the rabbi of Brith Sholom Beth Israel, the historic shul of downtown Charleston, South Carolina for close to six years. Before going to Charleston, he was the assistant rabbi at United Orthodox Synagogues of Houston, Texas, where he also led an initiative with the Orthodox Union and the City of Houston to encourage Jewish families to move to Houston. He received his BA in psychology, MS in Jewish education, and rabbinic ordination from Yeshiva University. Additionally, he has completed advanced training on the laws of Jewish Family Purity from Machon Puah in Jerusalem and has received outreach training at Ner Le’Elef. He is one of the co-founders of the Organization for the Resolution of Agunot, which began in his college dorm room. Rabbi Davis has a passion for learning, teaching and outreach, and loves engaging Jews of every age and background, inspiring them to live a meaningful Jewish life. He enjoys hiking, fishing, and all things creative, especially graphic design.

Page 3: Services...Esther and Yehuda Cohn on the birth of a baby boy. ... Chaya Miriam Pomerantz. Seudah Shlishit Seudah Shlishit is being sponsored by Dr. Eli Kleinman in memory of the Shushan

Ariela is an experienced Jewish educator, and is currently the Judaics Principal at the Addlestone Hebrew Academy and a writer for the Orthodox Union. Ariela received her BA in Journalism from Stern College for Women and her MS in Jewish education from Azrieli Graduate School for Jewish Education. Rabbi and Ariela Davis are the proud parents of Yaelle, Elisheva, Adiel and Doniel. Rabbi Yonah Gross Rabbi Yonah Gross has led Congregation Beth Hamedrosh in Wynnewood, PA since December 2009, energizing the congregation and guiding its development as a center for programming and a welcoming shul for all Jews on Philadelphia’s Main Line. In addition to teaching a broad range of shiurim throughout the community (over 500 available on YUTorah.org), he is also the Posek for the Main Line Community Eruv and the Chasdei Eliyahu tzedaka organization. He is a member of the Vaad Hakashrus of Greater Philadelphia and liaison to the Jewish Federation on behalf of community Rabbis. Additionally, Rabbi Gross taught advanced Talmud and other Judaic Studies classes at Torah Academy of Greater Philadelphia and is the founder of Mezuzah and More, serving the mezuzah and tefillin needs of the Greater Philadelphia area. Rabbi Gross previously served as Rabbi of the Young Israel of Phoenix, reinvigorating the shul and achieving dynamic growth. Prior to living in Phoenix, Rabbi Gross was a Senior Rabbinic Intern at the Riverdale Jewish Center and an intern chaplain at the Zicklin Hospice in Riverdale. A native of Queens, New York, Rabbi Gross was educated through the Yeshiva Day School system (including attending SAR for 4 years), attended Yeshiva University High School and College, received rabbinic ordination from the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary (RIETS), and earned an MS in Counseling from Pace University. He also completed special study through The Puah Institute in the area of Fertility and Taharat HaMishpacha, as well as post-ordination coursework dealing with end of life issues and fundraising. Rabbi Gross is married to Chava, a practicing pharmacist originally from Teaneck, New Jersey. Chava has greatly influenced Beth Hamedrosh and the Lower Merion community with her leadership in women’s educational and social programming. The Grosses are blessed with five delightful children—Yehoshua (11), Tuvya (9), Shira (7), Yosef (4), and Rivka (7 months). Rabbi Philip Moskowitz Rabbi Philip Moskowitz serves as Associate Rabbi at Boca Raton Synagogue (BRS), where he helps lead a rapidly growing congregation of over 850 families including over 1,000 children. His warm personality and dynamic, positive spirit make people of all backgrounds and ages feel a part of the BRS community. Rabbi Moskowitz officiates at life cycle events, provides pastoral counseling, and serves as halachic advisor and close confidante to hundreds of members. Beyond the engaging and relevant Shabbat morning sermons, delivered to multiple, diverse minyanim, and the numerous regular classes and shiurim in the Shul, Rabbi Moskowitz regularly teaches Torah in private homes, local day schools, and the community at large. Rabbi Moskowitz, a Boston native, received his bachelor’s degree and semicha from Yeshiva University and, before coming to Boca, was the Program Director at YU’s Center for the Jewish Future, where he developed, coordinated, and oversaw a robust and vibrant Adult Education Program that creatively targeted diverse populations and attracted hundreds of attendees. Rabbi Moskowitz has also served as an assistant rabbi in Holliswood, Queens. Rabbi Moskowitz is deeply active in his leadership of the Boca Raton Jewish community. He serves on the Executive Committee of Katz Hillel Day School, the Board of Directors of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County, and is involved with the Beth Din of Florida (conversion), the Orthodox Rabbinical Board (kashrut), and several local day schools and high schools. He is also a proud, staunch Israel advocate and values his close association with AIPAC, Friends of the IDF, and JNF. In addition, Rabbi Moskowitz serves as Director of the Helen and Julius Reiter Institute of Judaic Studies at BRS, where he coordinates and oversees an adult education program that boasts hundreds of classes, speakers, and special events throughout the year. Rabbi Moskowitz lives in Boca Raton with his wife Arielle, a practicing Nurse Practitioner, and their children Moshe, Shayna, Esti, and Rena. His love of the outdoors includes enjoying golf, tennis, and running. He is an avid reader, with particular emphasis on current events and American and Israeli history. And despite the physical distance, he remains

true to his Boston sports teams.
