I often wish that G-d would do for us that which He did for Hagar simply open our eyes to the countless glories that surround us, to the manifold blessings, which sustain us. If only we could live with the consciousness of the daily miracles which attend us every morning, noon, and evening. On Yom Kippur, I urged my beloved congregation to remain mindful of what we are blessed with and not be preoccupied with that which we lack. The Musk Deer spends its entire life in search of the Musk smell not realizing that the smell actually emerges from its own snout. As a child I thought it was sad, as an adult I think it’s tragic to spend so much energy in search of something when it is right under our nose. A Message from Rabbi Yamin Levy

LIHA Rabbi

Shalom My Dear Parents, Students, Friends and Supporters, We had a great week in school this week.

There was a lot of learning and a lot of fun.

The students held their own election – I

only wish the adult election was as much

fun. A careful reading of a famous passage in

this week’s Perasha invites us to reflect

upon a beautiful lesson of life. Hagar in

desperation calls out to G-d to save her and

her newborn child Yishmael. The Torah

reports as follows: “Then G-d opened her

eyes and she saw a well of water; she went

and filled the bottle with water and gave

her child to drink”. The Torah does not tell

us that Hashem created a well for Hagar or

made some great miracle like bringing

water out of a stone but rather Hashem

gently opened her eyes to that which was

right in front of her, the obvious - and thus

her prayer was answered. I often wish that G-d would do for us that

which He did for Hagar – simply open our

eyes to the countless glories that surround

us, to the manifold blessings, which sustain

us. If only we could live with

the consciousness of the daily miracles

which attend us every morning, noon, and

evening. On Yom Kippur, I urged my beloved

congregation to remain mindful of what we

are blessed with and not be preoccupied

with that which we lack. Helen Keller

wrote about the people around her who

were blessed with sight and good health:

“They have the sunset, the morning skies,

the purple distant hills, yet their soul’s

voyage through this enchanted world with

nothing but a barren stare.”

I once shared with you how distressed I

was when as a young boy I was asked to

turn in an essay on the Musk Deer. The

Musk Deer spends its entire life in search

of the Musk smell not realizing that the

smell actually emerges from its own

snout. As a child I thought it was sad, as

an adult I think it’s tragic to spend so much

energy in search of something when it is

right under our nose.

FAMILY is people and family is love that’s a family. We loved learning about the different families we each have. Some have one brother some have two. Some have a sister some don’t. Some have many people in the family and some only a few. We loved making a family book which we added to our class library. We were introduced to the letter F. We named words like family, friend, forest, fireman, fire truck and so many more. Thank you to our letter getters Avi and Aharon for bringing things beginning with F. We introduced the letter ו and added it to our machberet. We named words וילון (curtain), ורד (rose). We learned the number 4! We made me 4 and loved how he juggles 4 fours on his head. In this week’s parasha, Parashat Vayera, we heard about Avraham inviting guests into his tent. Three guests come in announcing Sara will have a baby. We loved playing under our tent all week. We made a beautiful Avraham tent project. Shabbat Abba is Oren Shabbat Imma is Eliana

Kindergarten English

We answered the question why flowers are unique while reading the book, “Flowers”. Some of our amazing words were fruits, seeds, stem and petals. We talked about nouns that are more than one and know we usually add the letter s. The K class completed the assessment in math, chapter 2, and began learning about the number 6. In science, the children learned about the 5 senses. This past week for STEM we experimented and observed liquids that have acid (bubbles) using baking soda. That was fun! We discussed why we don’t have school this coming Wednesday because of Veteran’s Day and learned what veterans are. Shabbat Shalom and have a great weekend.

Kindergarten Hebrew The letter “Hay ה” was the letter of the week!! The words for this letter were; Harbeh (a lot= הרבה), har (mountain = הר) and horim (parents = הורים). We also learned the “Segol vowel”. Once again the children enjoyed the Parasha time; Parashat Vayera, in which Abraham welcomes his guests (the מלאכים) to his tent. Our באשבת אמא וא this week were; Abigail & Ethan.
