SKS!
SKS TECHNOLOGYIt has been an exciting year in 6th, 7th and 8th grade technology classes! Representatives from Uncommon Individual Foundation came weekly to help the 7th and 8th grade classes learn how to code in the languages of CSS, JavaScript, and HTML on the BSD platform. The students made their first website, an online recipe, animated aquarium, trivia game and most recently learned how to create a parallax effect. The representatives also brought 3D printing, a CAD design program called Tinkercad, and virtual reality into the classroom. The students participated in various maker competitions, to make the best design on Tinkercad.
Above, our older students learned how virtual reality works and looks like in real time.
On the left, Mrs. DePetris is teaching some of our younger students how augmented reality works with hands on experience.

After graduating from SKS, I went to Villa Maria Academy. At Villa, I was involved in a variety of activities and I was able to meet some of my closest friends. I was also able to figure out what path I wanted to take in my college career because of the wonderful science teachers I encountered during my four years and because of the mission trip I was able
to take to Honduras my senior year. While in Honduras, I was able to observe surgeries, care for patients in the PACU, and help families in clinics set up in their villages. This opportunity, along with my science education, helped me to know that I wanted to become a nurse.
I now attend Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and I have just completed my sophomore year as a Nursing major. I have had the honor of working through two clinical rotations so far and have loved every minute of it! At school, I am also involved with the Student Government Association, Alpha Tau Delta, which is a professional nursing fraternity, Active Minds, and Gamma Phi Beta social sorority. I plan on finishing my education at Duquesne, passing my NCLEX (fingers crossed), and one day becoming a forensic nurse.
I think a favorite memory from SKS was field day. I loved having a full day to play different games outside with my classmates. It brought the whole school together and I would love to be able to do it again!
SKS gave me the most amazing friends and memories that I will hold onto for the rest of my life. I learned so much about my faith, education, and myself at SKS and I continue to build on that foundation even today. I am eternally grateful for SKS and the nine years I was able to spend there!

H&S Board Updates
Mr. T’s Summer Message for SKS Students
• Remember to get to Mass and say your prayers. Stay close to Jesus no matter where you are – the beach, the mountains, or traveling.
• Do your summer reading and math packets. It’s important to “sharpen the saw” and stay on top of your skills. As a school we don’t overwhelm students with tons of summer work.
• READ READ READ for pleasure and enjoyment. Get a few good books for the beach or vacation. Also, limit your screen time.
• Help out at home ! Your parents work hard and do a lot for you everyday. You need to do your fair share to chip in at home. Ask your parents how you can contribute better at home.
• Make good decisions, especially when you are on your own. If the crowd is going in the right direction, by all means follow the crowd. If they are going in the wrong direction STAND UP for what is right and walk away.
A special thank you to our departing members of the 2018/19 Home and School Board. Rebecca
