Prayer for a New Bishop

God of infinite goodness, you know our need, at this time, for a leader who will help us heal, renew and thrive as your family. Be with those deciding on who this bishop will be. Enlighten their minds so they may make an informed decision. Strengthen and bless their choice for our diocese and grant us the openness and courage needed to welcome him with open arms and joyful hearts. Amen.

Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Andrew’s, By now you have probably heard or seen that our church, rectory and school were closed. All is well and so are the staff and myself. One of our new hires at the school contracted the virus. This person attended a staff luncheon for the retirement of our former business manager. We were made aware of this person’s diagnosis a few days later. The Department of Health was contacted and under their direction, everyone that had contact with this person was notified and went for testing. Just to be safe, we decided to close the buildings out of concern and safety for our parishioners and the community’s well being. Thankfully, all those tested came back negative for the virus. Because of the measures taken, we were able to reopen safely at this time. I would like to take this opportunity to stress the importance of wearing a mask, washing your hands and practice social distancing and if you are not feeling well, please stay home. Thank you for all the prayers and concern and your understanding throughout this temporary closure. I look forward to celebrating Mass with you again! Let us pray for a healthy new school year for our students, faculty and staff . Stay safe and Be well! Yours in Christ, Father Matt

MARIAN MINISTRIES Our new year begins with Mass at noon on September 14, followed by lunch! The Mass will be offered for Frank Gubala, who passed away in March. Dorothy Devine has invited us to her lovely home (rain or shine) for a safe after-Mass gathering. We will meet at 26 Nicholas Court immediately after the Mass. Perhaps we can carpool from the church to Dorothy’s. Please bring a bagged lunch. Our drinks and dessert will be provided. No need to bring a chair, as we will be in the lovely Florida room. Looking forward to seeing you there!

PRAYER TO OVERCOME RACISM

Mary, friend and mother to all, through your Son, God has found a way to unite himself to every human being, called to be one people,

sisters and brothers to each other. We ask for your help in calling on your Son,

seeking forgiveness for the times when we have failed to love and respect one another.

We ask for your help in obtaining from your Son the grace we need to overcome the evil of

racism and to build a just society. We ask for your help in following your Son, so

that prejudice and animosity will no longer infect our minds or hearts but will be replaced

with a love that respects the dignity of each person.

Mother of the Church, the Spirit of your Son Jesus warms our hearts: pray for us.

Amen.

Resources on Combating Racism The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops provides several resources on its website, usccb.org, for reflection on the topic of racism. The page "Combating Racism" offers videos that address the immediate concerns of racial injustices. And the bishop's statement "Open Wide Our Hearts", issued in 2018, calls for a genuine conversion of the heart where the scourge of racism is concerned.

Thank you to those that participated in the Summer Spectacular—Congratulations to all our winners!
