SPIRITUAL READING & REFLECTION
Dear Parishioners, Today the Feast of Christ the King calls us to a reflection on our stewardship of our time, talent and treasures. Obviously our eternal judgment and reward depend on our stewardship of the gifts God entrusted to us. As we see the agricultural community bring in the physical harvest at this time of the year, and of course give thanks, we look at the harvest of our actions during this last year. How have we loved Christ and our brothers and sisters, our neighbors? Each day we get so many opportunities to perform the corporal and spiritual works of mercy. The Second Vatican Council reminded us of this fact. “Today there is an inescapable duty to make ourselves the neighbor of every man, no matter who he is, and if we meet him, to come to his aid in a positive way, whether he is an aged person abandoned by all, a foreign worker despised without reason, a refugee, …, or a starving human being who awakens our conscience by calling to mind the words of Christ: ‘As you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.’” (Gaudium et Spes, 27) How often in our lives we have the opportunity to perform those wonderful works of mercy! Let’s thank God that we have these opportunities. Our Lord presents the corporal and spiritual works of mercy as the basis of the judgment we will face at the end of our lives.
This Thursday is our national day of Thanksgiving to God for His providence and blessing. Holy Mass will be at 8:30 AM. Assisting at Holy Mass is the perfect way to begin our Thanksgiving Day. Bring your families and your visitors to our celebration. Thank you for your kind comments concerning the meetings we have had concerning the World Meeting of Families next year. Many of you asked if we could have a monthly “Donuts and Dogma” adult education class. I am hoping that we can normally do this on the first Sunday of each month. I will have a basket for you to leave questions and suggestions so that I can prepare some thoughts to present. And at times we will just have questions and answers. In December I will present a brief explanation of three very good pastoral letters from the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops. I look forward to being with you for these meetings. Thank you for your interest. Next Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent; be sure to get your Advent Wreaths, calendars and candles out. May God bless you and our Lady keep you in her care. With my prayers, Father Arnsparger

The spiritual works of mercy are:
• To instruct the ignorant; • To counsel the doubtful; • To admonish sinners; • To bear wrongs patiently; • To forgive offences willingly; • To comfort the afflicted; • To pray for the living and the dead.
The corporal works of mercy are:
• To feed the hungry; • To give drink to the thirsty; • To clothe the naked; • To give shelter to the homeless; • To visit the sick; • To ransom the captive; • To bury the dead.

SOUP SAMPLER SUPPER MONDAY, DECEMBER 8TH
7:30PM ● SOCIAL HALL
St. John the Baptist Catholic Church is once again planning our Soup Sampler Supper for December 8th —the Solemnity of The Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Join us on Monday, December 8th, for a simple evening meal with delicious homemade soups and breads, crackers and light desserts shared in the warmth of parish fellowship. The Soup Supper will begin directly after the Holy Day Mass at 6:30pm.
Soup makers, we are calling on you to bring your favorite pot of soup to share. We have Mass prior to and therefore are expecting a larger crowd. We currently have six (6) cooks and are seeking four more (4) cooks to prepare their signature pot of soup! Bread makers, we hope you will share some of your wonderful breads as well. We look forward to hearing from all of you. Please contact Palma to confirm you are preparing a soup or bread. Thank you!

COFFEE AND DONUTS / DONUTS & DOGMA
Coffee and Donuts has a new face and name: Donuts and Dogma. Starting in December, Fr. Arnsparger will be offering a new opportunity to learn more about our rich and beautiful Catholic faith. On the first Sunday of each month, hot coffee and various donuts will still be offered by the gracious generosity of our Family Life Commission members; however, we will now have Fr. Arnsparger sharing and teaching on various faith topics. We hope you will join Fr. Arnsparger for Donuts & Dogma on Sunday, December 7th in the parish social hall after the 8:30am Mass.
