Sacrament of Reconciliation St. Ann Church — Saturday at 4:15 p.m.

St. Mary Church-First Sunday of the month at 10:15 a.m.

O God, let all the nations praise you!.— Psalm 67

O Mary, you always shine on our path as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who at the cross took part in Jesus' pain, keeping your faith firm. You, Salvation of the Roman People, know what we need, and we are sure you will provide so that, as in Cana of Galilee, we may return to joy and to feasting after this time of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who has taken upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows to lead us, through the cross, to the joy of the resurrection. Under your pro-tection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God. Do not disdain the entreaties of we who are in trial, but deliver us from every danger, O glori-ous and blessed Virgin. Amen

The Diocese of Erie, along with all dioceses of the United States, has policies and procedures in place to address the national problem of child abuse and to aid in creating safe environments. The diocese is committed to on-going screen-ing and training of paid or volunteer persons who have reg-ular contact with our children and youth under the age of 18. It is committed to the yearly in-servicing and training of our children, youth and parents regarding touching-safety and safe environment. Child Protection and Creating Safe Environments- Docu-

mentation for Safety: Working alongside the Bishop, the Office for the Protection of Children and Youth reinforces the ongoing implementation of policies and procedures that pro-tect children. All employees, volunteers and clergy in the Diocese of Erie who work with children must undergo crimi-nal record checks. The diocesan Policy for the Protection of Children and Youth screening guidelines and abuse preven-tion training programs emphasize the importance of knowing the employees and volunteers who have access to children in our schools and parishes. Parents should remain vigilant in insisting that those with access to their children have gone through an application process and obtained the required clearances and trainings before being granted access to their children. Visit https://www.eriercd.org/childprotection/ to see what documentation and training is required for those who work with children and youth in our parishes/schools/agencies.

A Family Perspective .The mother in today’s gospel persisted, even when she was ignored and insulted. She would do whatever was necessary to bring relief to her child. Parenting is more than bringing life into the world; it is also about sacrificing daily for your children.

SPIRITUAL COMMUNION PRAYER My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot receive you at this moment sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as if you were already there and unite myself wholly to you. Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen

We know these are difficult times for every-one, including you and your family. Saint Mary/Saint Ann Church remains committed to the spiritual care of our parishioners and the faithful in our com-munities. Although how we do that is changing tem-porarily, our purpose remains the same.

The Parish Office is now open. Please be aware that like any family, our par-ish has ongoing operating costs. We are entirely de-pendent upon you to meet those financial obligations. Please continue to make your weekly offertory gifts by mailing them to the church. If you have any ques-tions, contact the Parish Office at (814) 744-9919. May God bless you, your family, and the world.

Prayer in Time of Pandemic

Lord Jesus, You came to bring salvation to our world. You humbled yourself to accept death on a cross. Be with us as we confront the spread of the coronavirus with courage and hope. Be present to the sick and to those who accompany them in their suffering. Strengthen our medical professionals and caregivers; comfort families who are separated from one another. Protect those who are at risk of the virus in their work. Grant wisdom to our civic officials and perseverance to scientists. Spare us from the ravages of this illness and console us in our uncertainty and fear. Unite us in hope, enlighten us in faith, and give us the grace as a Church to love one another as You have loved us. Through the in-tercession of our Heavenly Mother, we make this prayer as we place our trust in You. Amen. Imprimatur, April 8, 2020 The Most Reverend Lawrence T. Persico, J.C.L. Bishop of Erie

Priests as Good Shepherd Prayer Jesus, Good Shepherd,

You sent us the Holy Spirit to guide Your Church and lead the faithful to You through the ministry of

Your priests. Through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, grant to

Your priests wisdom in leading,

faithfulness in teaching, and holiness in guarding Your Sacred Mysteries.

As they cry out with all the faithful, "Abba, Father!" May your priests be ever more closely identified with

You in Your Divine Sonship and offer their own lives with You, the one saving

Victim. Make them helpful brothers of one another,

and understanding fathers of all Your people. Renew in Your priests

deeper faith, greater trust in You,

childlike reliance on our Mother Mary, and unwavering fidelity to the Holy Father and their

bishops. Holy Mary, intercede for your priests.

St. Joseph, protect them. St. Michael, defend them.

St. John Vianney, pray for them.

Amen.

GRATITUDE O Thou who has given us so much, mercifully grant us one thing more—a grateful heart. —George Herbert

SAINT PIUS X (1835-1914) August 21 Presidential vetoes we understand. But imag-ine vetoing a papal election! Yet in the conclave of 1903, the Archbishop of Cracow (ironically, a pre-decessor in that office of Karol Wojtyla, the future John Paul II) vetoed the leading candidate on the order of the Austro-Hungarian emperor. Instead, the cardinals elected Giuseppe Sarto of Venice as Pius X, the first pope, after a succession of nobles and diplomats, to hail from humble origins. Nor did the papacy alter his endearing simplicity. Tailors eventually made his cassock cuffs detachable be-cause he absentmindedly wiped his fountain pen on them, forgetting that his old black cassock had been replaced by papal white! Taking as his motto “To restore all things in Christ” (Ephesians 1:10), Pius condemned the theological innovations called “modernism,” yet dramatically altered the then-common practice whereby people rarely received Communion for fear of unworthiness, mandating early First Communion and urging everyone to fre-quent reception. Refusing to bless troops assem-bled in Saint Peter’s Square—“I bless peace, not war!”—he died brokenhearted as World War I en-gulfed Christian Europe despite his peacemaking efforts. —Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
