Help Families in Need this Christmas

Won’t you help to make Christmas a little brighter for

needy families in southeast Michigan this year? Catho-

lic Charities of Southeast Michigan’s Saint Joseph

Perpetual Help Fund will help nearly 200 families this

season, all nominated by Catholic parishes and Catholic

organizations throughout the Archdiocese of Detroit.

The more donations the fund receives by December 7,

the more we can give to each family this Christmas!

Donate in one of two ways:

Send a check made payable to CCSEM with “Saint

Joseph Perpetual Help Fund” in the memo line

to our CCSEM main office at 15945 Canal

Road, Clinton Township, MI 48038.

Donate online at ccsem.org/donate. Select the box

stating: “I would like to designate this donation

to a specific fund.” Then scroll down the list

and select the “Saint Joseph Perpetual Help

Fund.”

Donations received after the donation deadline of Dec.

7 will be used to help families throughout the year.

Questions? Contact Kelly Luttinen at (248) 548-4044

The Archdiocese of Detroit encourages individ-uals to report clergy sexual abuse of minors and others – no matter when the abuse oc-curred. Individuals may contact local law en-forcement authorities and/or they may report to the Archdiocese of Detroit by calling the Victim Assistance Coordinator at (866) 343-8055 or by emailing [email protected]. In addition, the Michi-gan Attorney General’s Office can be contacted at its toll-free reporting hotline at (844) 324-3374 (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) or by email at [email protected].

Stewardship Thoughts

Today’s Scripture passages from the First Book of

Kings and St. Mark’s Gospel describe two widows’

remarkable examples of self-sacrifice. In the Old Tes-

tament narrative, the prophet Elijah requests a poor

widow, in the midst of a drought, to make him food

from her insufficient supply of flour and oil. God

richly blesses her and her son for her act of simple

kindness and generosity. In St. Mark’s Gospel, Jesus

notices the poor widow who … from her poverty has

contributed all she had, her whole livelihood to the

Temple treasury. Jesus professes to His disciples that

her donation is noteworthy because she gives from

her need, not from her surplus wealth as others do. In

the Letter to the Hebrews, another form of sacrifice is

expressed: Christ’s ultimate sacrifice of Himself as

our High Priest. As Christian stewards, we should

strive to imitate these profound examples of sacrifi-

cial giving by acknowledging all gifts are God-given,

and in gratitude, by giving back to God generously

through the parish offertory, the Catholic Services

Appeal, and to those in need. A good rule of thumb is

to begin giving 4 percent of your pre-tax income to

the parish offertory and 1 percent to the Catholic Ser-

vices Appeal.

HAPPY

HALLOWEEN!

Bake Sale A special thank you to all that contributed to our bake sale last

weekend. All of our confirmation students will be able to at-

tend their Subiaco Retreat free of charge this year. Thank You

for your generosity, continued support and all of the delicious

baked goods that were donated for the sale. We were also able

to share that great gift with the needy in our community, by

donating the leftover desserts to the Pantry’s dinner last Mon-

day.

All of the students did a wonderful job baking, selling and do-

nating their time. Thank You All and God Bless!
