RESPONSE TO COVID-19 PANDEMIC Archbishop Vigneron has announced the gradual return to Mass for all Parishes beginning May 19th. All other events have been suspended at the di-rective of the Archdiocese of Detroit and the Gover-nor’s “Shelter in Place.” The parish office is open on Tuesday from 9:30 to 3:30. The voicemail and the email are monitored on a regular basis so please feel free to leave a message. The church is open for personal prayer every Tues-day and Thursday from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm and every Sunday from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm. Please remember to practice social distancing. Our parish continues to need your support in order to pay our bills and maintain the parish buildings. We ask that, to the best of your ability, you continue to make your weekly offertory donations, either by mail or, if you are coming to church for private prayer or for Mass, you can drop your envelope in the basket that is provided for this purpose in the church.

Anyone else think the Blake’s Mascot is dressed like a priest? Fr. Steve sure does!

CSA “2020” Have you considered that this time of challenge and uncertainty could possibly be the Church in Detroit’s finest hour? This is a time for our parish-es and communities to do what we do best: rise up. In southeast Michigan, we are no strangers to challenges, and we, with the grace and love of God, have always been resilient, rising from the ashes and overcoming these trials. Over the past year, even amidst trial, we haven’t stopped work-ing to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, or equip individuals to know the love of God. This pandemic has not stopped us from sharing the Gospel! But this mission isn’t something we can do alone. Your generosity to the Catholic Ser-vices Appeal makes all these efforts possible. It brings livestreamed Mass to those who can’t at-tend, powers our Christian Service programs and outreach, helps us learn how to better share Je-sus in our diverse and multicultural Detroit com-munity, and helps individuals and families grow closer to God even while physically distanced. Your gifts to the CSA do all this, and so much more. Jesus told his disciples, “Rise up, and be not afraid.” Now it is our turn to answer the call, to rise up and be united in the mission of Christ. Please, prayerfully consider making a one-time or recurring gift to help continue this mission and to help each parish, family, and individual throughout the Archdiocese bring the hope of Je-sus and his message to Southeast Michigan and beyond. Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time Today, in St. Matthew’s Gospel, the evangelist re-counts Jesus’ telling of a parable to the chief priests and elders. A landowner (God) plants a vineyard, leas-es it out, then goes on a journey. When vintage time draws near, He twice sends His servants for the pro-duce. Christ describes how the tenants (the Israelites) reject the servants (God’s prophets) and even kill the landowner’s son (Jesus, symbolizing His dying for our sins). Our Lord and Savior becomes the cornerstone the builders reject. In the Book of the Prophet Isaiah, a vineyard that yields bad grapes is related to Israel’s sinfulness. God’s Kingdom will be given to those who produce abundant fruit. As Paschal stewards strengthened by the Eucharist, we strive to produce good fruit in our lives — good works through acts of Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy.
