GUIDING LIGHT ST. MARY MYSTICAL ROSE

We the faithful of St. Mary Mystical Rose Parish are a Catholic Community in the Archdiocese of Detroit. We serve God through His Begotten Son, Jesus Christ, with the empowerment and the

strength of the Holy Spirit: to celebrate the Holy Sacraments and Worship, Christian Service and Faith Education, to evangelize and practice our faith in active stewardship--with the faith, spirit

and humility of Mary, the Rose of God and our Patron Saint.

July 30, 2017— Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Treasure Of Heaven (Matthew 13:44-52). What are treasures of heaven? In the First Reading from the First

Book of Kings, King Solomon who succeeded his father King

David in the throne of God’s people Israel asks God for the gift of

Wisdom. King Solomon became king in his youthful years. He

asks God for the gift of Wisdom and God granted it to him.

Wisdom is one of the greatest gifts to understand and to know

right from wrong, so it is the greatest gift God granted to King

Solomon.

In relation and connection of the First Reading to the Gospel,

Jesus’ compares the Kingdom of Heaven to: a treasure buried in

the field; a merchant searching for fine pearls; a net thrown into

the sea which collects fish of every kind.

All of these treasures will never be found if a person will not in-

teract in finding it. The person should asks, the person should

look for the treasure, the person should work for the treasure.

You and I should toil and cultivate with and for works of faith.

Saint Paul in one of his Epistles once said, “Faith without work is

dead faith.” What is that mean? Prayers is good but prayers of

faith should go together with works that is done with the act of

charity. Prayers are treasures that drives us to praise, glorify, and

worship God. Furthermore, it helps to strive and thrive us to be

more kind, generous, loving, and sharing the blessings of God in

works of love and faith.

We pray that we will be “good fish” that throws in buckets as

Jesus’ Parables said in the Gospel of Matthew this Sunday. I will

close with stating Saint Paul’s Letter from the Second Reading to

the Romans 8:28-30. Saint Paul’s letter is the epitome of a good

Christian who possessed the treasure of heaven that Jesus’ par-

ables are about. The following is the Letter of Saint Paul to the

Romans:

Brothers and sisters:

We know that all things work for good for those who love

God,

Who are called according to his purpose.

For those he foreknew he also predestined

To be conformed to the image of his Son,

So that he might be the firstborn

Among many brothers and sisters.

And those he predestined he also called;

And those he called he also justified;

And those he justified he also glorified, (8:28-30).

Let us continue to look, find, live, search, and seek the treasures

of the Kingdom of God. Let us live according to the Beatitudes,

the Commandments of the Lord and we will be near to the doors

of the Kingdom of heaven. Therefore, pray for peace, pray for one

another, pray for God’s will in your life. May God fill you with

His joy and peace. Amen.
