Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time
“What must I do to inherit eternal life?” How will you re-spond in gra tude to the mercy the Lord has shown you?
That from the many called to holiness in Christ, those chosen to follow him in the priesthood and consecrated life will re-
spond with humble readiness, we pray to the Lord.

Please continue to keep them all in your prayers. Gratefully, Giovanna Varlese Director of Religion Education
Dear Parishioners,
My name is Giovanna Varlese. I am the Director of Religious Education at St. Mary’s and I am writ-ing to you today about an important ministry. As the General Directory for Catechesis tells us, “Jesus invites men and women, in a special way, to follow him” to become teacher of disciples. Today I invite you to consider serving our parish youth in the catechetical ministry. Some may know this as a CCD teacher.
There are many reasons to become a catechist. The most import reason is the opportunity to share your faith with St. Mary’s youth, the future of the Church. As the alphabet is the foundation of words, sentences and more, the foundation of our faith grows to become more than just the simple prayers from our youth, it journeys out from within us to others. So please, consider becoming a catechist and help build up God’s kingdom at St Mary’s. Parents, grandparents, singles, and mar-ried couples – all are invited, all are welcome!
Former catechists mentioned that when they first began teaching at St. Mary’s they didn’t realize the children would be teaching them too. As a catechist teacher you will enrich your students and they will enrich you and in turn you will enrich your whole family. You will notice that prayer, the Mass and your own relationship with God will become energetic and more personal.
On September 19th, approximately 100 parish youths, from preschool through 12th grade, will regis-ter for faith formation. Classes are held on Sundays from 10:30 am to 11:45 am in our St Joseph Center across the street.
Each catechist will have their own classroom, training, class material and support during the year. Be assured that you are not alone on this walk in faith.
Remember, God Does Not Call The Qualified, God Qualifies The Called” (LUKE 5:1-11).
So is God calling you into this ministry and will you say “Yes”?
If you have any questions or would like to know more about St. Mary’s Religious Education Program, please contact me at 917-832-6104 and leave a message or email me at [email protected].
Thank you for your prayerful consideration.
