Oremus pro invicem. “Let us pray for each other.”

We welcome our new Music Director

Dear St. Mary Parishioners, My name is David Elliott and I am the new music director at St. Mary Church. I am extremely honored and excited to begin my work here. I am coming to you from a parish not far from here also called St. Mary in Clinton, MD. I am also studying sacred music in the area and have finished one year of my DMA in sacred music at Catholic University of America. My wife and I have two children, Sean (4), and Ryan (2) and we are all looking forward to joining the St. Mary family. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you are interested in singing with our choir or playing as an instrumentalist and I look forward to getting to know and serving this wonderful parish. With every best wish, David Elliott

Spirituality

During this holy season of Lent, we turn our thoughts with greater intensity to our progress in the pursuit of holiness. Spirituality, according to the Catholic Encyclopedia is defined as: “Simply, and basically, the response of the individual, by the grace of the Holy Spirit, to Christ’s ongoing invitation to ‘repent and believe the Gospel.’ This personal conversion (in the Greek, metanoia) expresses itself in an ever-deepening communion of faith, hope and love with one’s fellow believers in the community of the Catholic Church, and an ever more faithful witness to Christ, the values of His Gospel and the teaching of His Church in one’s daily life in the world. While the history of the Catholic Church is replete with a wide variety of “spiritualities” (Ignatian, monastic, etc.), there is in the final analysis one only and all-embracing Catholic spirituality; the rootedness of the individual both in the paschal mystery of Christ’s death and resurrection and in the community of the Catholic Church brought to birth by that paschal mystery.”

"O you who want to walk in security and in consolation, if only you knew how pleasing suffering is to God,

and how helpful it is in acquiring other benefits, you would never seek consolations in anything, but rather would deem it

a great joy to carry the cross in the footsteps of Jesus."

O Jesus, Who in Thy bitter Passion didst become "the most abject of men, a man of sorrows," I venerate

Thy sacred Face whereon there once did shine the beauty and sweetness of the Godhead; but now It has become as it were

the face of a leper! Nevertheless under those disfigured features, I recognize Thine infinite Love, and I am consumed

with desire to love Thee and make Thee loved by all men. The tears which well up so abundantly in Thy sacred eyes appear to me as so many precious pearls that I love to gather up, in order to purchase the souls of poor sinners by means of their infinite

value. O Jesus, whose adorable Face ravishes my heart, I implore Thee to fix deep within me Thy Divine image and to set me on fire with Thy love, that so I may be found worthy to come to the contemplation of Thy glorious Face in Heaven.

Amen.

DIVINE MERCY CORNER

“My Heart overflows with great Mercy for souls. If only they could understand that I am the best of

Fathers to them and that it is for them that the Blood and Water flowed from My Heart as from a fountain overflowing with Mercy. For them I dwell

in the tabernacle as the King of Mercy. I desire to bestow My graces upon souls, but they do not want to accept them. ... Oh, how indifferent are souls to so much goodness, to so many proofs

of love! .... They have time for everything, but they have no time to come to Me for graces.”

(Jesus to St. Faustina, Diary 367)
