Oremus pro invicem. “Let us pray for each other.”

Christ the King

On this sacred Feast of Christ the King it is appropriate to reflect on the encyclical “Quas Primas” by Pope Pius XVI.

“It has long been a common custom to give to Christ the metaphorical title of “King”, because of the high degree of perfection whereby he excels all creatures. So he is said to reign “in the hearts of men”, both by reason of the keenness of his intellect and the extent of his knowledge, and also because he is very truth, and it is from him that truth must be obediently received by all mankind… He is King of hearts, too, by reason of his “charity which exceeds all knowledge”. And his mercy and kindness which draws all men to him… Do we not read throughout the Scriptures that Christ is the King? ...The Archangel, announcing to the Virgin that she should bear a Son, says that “the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of David his father, and he shall reign in the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end”. It was surely right, then, in view of the common teaching of the sacred books, that the Catholic Church, which is the kingdom of Christ on earth, destined to be spread among all men and all nations, should, with every token of veneration salute her Author and Founder in her annual liturgy as King and Lord, and as King of Kings.” (December 11, 1925)

True Thanksgiving

The word “Eucharist” means thanksgiving. How appropriate then it would be to start our Thanksgiving family gatherings by first gathering as a parish family in the Name of Jesus Christ to thank God at Holy Mass. I encourage all of you to attend Mass on Thanksgiving Day at 10 A.M. to praise the God who is the source of all blessings and the reason for our giving thanks.

Thanksgiving is the name given to the time of prayer following our reception of Holy Communion at Mass. With Our Eucharistic Lord inside us and before the Host is entirely absorbed by our bodies, we have a unique opportunity for a deep union with Christ in prayer. We may speak words of adoration, contrition, thanksgiving or supplication to Our Lord so intimately present to us. Also, rather than immediately exciting our pew following Mass, we may remain to prolong our prayer for a few minutes. Following is a beautiful prayer one may use in the form of thanksgiving.

May Our Lord bless you with a truly peaceful and “thank-filled” Thanksgiving holiday!

Prayer of Thanksgiving

Lord Jesus Christ, take all my freedom, my memory, my understanding, and my will. All that I have and cherish

You have given me. I surrender it all to be guided by Your will. Your grace and Your love are wealth enough for me.

Give me these, Lord Jesus, and I ask for nothing more. Amen.

WE WELCOME THROUGH THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM

Cameron William Chelline Ryan McLaren Chelline Julianne Luisa Curley

A PRAYER TO CHRSIT THE KING O Jesus Christ, I acknowledge you as universal King. All that has been

made has been created for You. Exercise all Your rights over me. I renew my Baptismal Vows. I renounce Satan, his pomps and his works; I promise to live as a good Christian. And, in particular do I

pledge myself to labor, to the best of my ability, for the triumph of the rights of God and of Your Church. Divine Heart of Jesus, to You

do I offer my poor services, laboring that all hearts may acknowledge Your sacred kingship, and that thus the reign of Your peace

be established throughout the whole universe. Amen.

Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe Page Three

Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us.

PRO-LIFE CORNER

You formed my most inner being; you knit me in my mother’s womb. I praise you, so wonderfully you

made me; wonderful are your works!

(Psalm 139:13-14)

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, pray for us.

O Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.

“Does our life become from day to day more painful, more oppressive, more replete with afflictions?

Blessed be He a thousand times who desires it so!

If life be harder, love makes it also stronger and only this love, grounded on suffering, can carry the Cross of my Lord Jesus Christ. Love without egotism, without relying on self, but enkindling in the depth of the heart an ardent thirst to love and suffer for all those around us; a thirst that neither misfortune nor contempt can extinguish...

I believe, O Lord’ but strengthen my faith... Heart of Jesus, I love Thee; but increase my love.. Heart of Jesus, I trust in Thee; but give greater vigor to my confidence. Heart of Jesus, I give my heart to Thee; but so enclose it in Thee that it may never be separated from Thee.

Heart of Jesus, I am all Thine; but take care of my promise so that I may be able to put it in practice even unto the complete sacrifice of my life.”

- Blessed Miguel Agustín Pro, S.J.
