Dear Parents and Caregivers,

As parents and teachers, we can be overwhelmed at times when children argue

with each other or even with us. It is often difficult to get to the underlying issues

concerning the initial argument and by this time frustration levels are usually

quite high. Patience, resilience and positive reinforcement and support will not

only resolve the situation but also provide the opportunity to move forward.

Our behaviour management plan is supported by:

The 4 school rules: Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself; listen

attentively; follow directions and show respect for ourselves, others

and the environment

Classroom rules: Each class teacher, on discussion with his/her class has

designed classroom rules that require positive behaviour both in the

classroom and outside.

Restorative justice: When relationships are fractured, children are led

through this process so that the friendship and positive attitude can be

restored.

A Reflection – The Quarrelling Sons

A man had four sons who always seemed to be bickering with each other.

Nothing the father said made any difference to them and within a few hours,

they would once again be arguing with each other. He was often telling them

how much easier life would be if only they could learn to work together.

In his frustration one day, the father sent his sons out into the fields to find a

piece of wood each. When the puzzled sons returned, the father tied the four

sticks into a bundle and asked one of the sons to break it. The son tried his

hardest to break the tightly bound bundle but he could not even bend the wood.

The father then untied the string and separated the sticks. “Now try,” he said to

the same boy while the others watched. The lad broke each stick with the

greatest of ease. “Do you all see the point?” asked the father. “It is the same with

you. If you stand together, nothing can defeat you; but as soon as you are

divided, you become vulnerable.”

When you have exhausted all possibilities, remember this: You haven't. -

Sacrament of Confirmation Week 2 Workshop : Called by Name

In the second workshop children will be encouraged to be aware that they are part of a great family of faith, a people called to love and serve God. In Baptism we were ‘called by name’ and in Confirmation the Lord calls again, leading us more deeply into the Christian Life and empowering us through the Spirit to bear witness to the gospel. We explore the place of the saints in Catholic tradition. In this session we address the choice of Confirmation name, and we discuss how the Confirmation candidates are “presented” at Confirmation.
