Important for next week
Year 1 Class Liturgy has been postponed from Tuesday 6th June to Wednesday 21st June Friday, 9th June Parish Mass – 9.00am Year 3 to attend
Broncos Rugby League, Netball, Hockey and Soccer Competition
Monday, 5th June – Thursday, 8th June Formation workshop 4- Sacrament of Confirmation – 3.30pm
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
This Sunday is Pentecost Sunday. Pentecost Sunday is often called the
birthday of the Church. For the ancient Israelites, Pentecost (meaning
‘fiftieth’) was a harvest festival celebrated 50 days after the beginning of
the harvest. Several decades after the death of Jesus, the early Christians
reflected on their origins and chose this feast to mark the birth of God’s
new covenant with God’s people.
For the teaching at the heart of this new covenant, the Gospel of John
provides insight. The risen Christ appears to the disciples who are
huddled behind locked doors. He offers the simple greeting: “Peace be
with you,” the same greeting we offer each other at every Eucharistic
celebration. Jesus send the disciples on a mission of peace in continuity
with his own God-inspired mission. He breathes on them the gift of the
Holy Spirit and tells them that God will forgive those whom they forgive.
To seize hold of wrong-doing is to expose it and deal with it. Sometimes
it is best to forgive and simply allow everyone to move on. In other
situations, a simple forgiveness only exacerbates the problem. Much of
the conflict we face in our world today comes from the inability of people
to know truly how to forgive and move forward. The feast of Pentecost
reminds us that as a global community, we must address the causes of
violence and abuse and search together for lasting solutions. As we
celebrate Pentecost Sunday, let us gather into our hearts all the
distressed people in our Earth community and pray with greater urgency
than ever: “Come Holy Spirit, renew the face of the Earth.” (abridged from
Veronica Lawson RSM)
Have a lovely week. Margaret

RE News Sacrament of Confirmation Week 4 Workshop : Confirmation The final workshop focuses on all the steps of the Confirmation ceremony, what is said and done by the Bishop and the candidate. The role of the sponsor is also addressed. “Come, Holy Spirit. Fill the hearts of your Faithful; kindle in them
the fire of your love.”
Family Mass Due to unforeseen circumstances there will not be another Family Mass this term. Keep posted for more dates soon!
Administration Prep enrolments for 2018 We are currently accepting applications for Prep enrolments for the 2018 school year. It is vital that all families considering a placement for their child in Prep for 2018 contact the school office with their details (child’s name and date of birth, parents name, address and contact phone number). Interviews with the Principal will be held early in Term 3. Anticipated enrolment numbers for Prep are an integral part of the prediction for the staffing allocation for the whole of St Mary’s School for 2018. Parents/caregivers are reminded that enrolment at St Mary’s Kindy and current family enrolment does not automatically mean enrolment in Prep. Each Prep child and his/her family (2018) must have participated in the enrolment process:
Completion and return of the Application for Enrolment
Meeting with the Principal
Received an offer of a placement
Accepted the offer of placement
(where possible) Participate in designated Open Morning/s for 2018 Prep children
Each family’s support of this process is greatly appreciated. If members of our school community
are aware of other families seeking enrolment at St Mary’s School Warwick, please encourage them
to make contact with the school office for an enrolment package.
St Mary’s Primary School – Uniform Survey The St Mary’s Uniform Committee are currently undertaking a review of the current school uniform and would like parents to indicate their level of satisfaction by completing the survey at the end of this newsletter and returning it to the office in the envelope provided. Please be aware that any changes made to the current school uniform would be a 2 year process so will not affect all children currently attending St Mary’s – however, we value the opinions of these students and parents and would like as much feedback as possible so that the committee can make appropriate decisions regarding the future of the St Mary’s Uniform.
Reconciliation Week National Reconciliation Week runs annually from 27 May – 3 June. These dates mark two milestones in Australia’s reconciliation journey: The 1967 referendum and the historic Mabo decision, respectively.
In 2017, we reflect on two significant anniversaries in Australia’s reconciliation journey – 50 years since the 1967 referendum, and 25 years since the historic Mabo decision. The theme for #NRW2017 is ‘Let’s Take the Next Steps’ – it reminds us that all big changes take persistence and courage.
At St Mary’s we have commemorated Reconciliation Week with class lessons, a meaningful assembly and a reconciliation display in our Lower garden.
SunSmart
Next Friday the 9th of June a number of our students will participate in the Broncos Rugby League, Netball,
Hockey and Soccer competitions. We would like to take this opportunity to remind all children who are
playing sport for the school to be SunSmart. They will need to:
1. Slip on sun protective clothing – especially when waiting their turn and during breaks
2. Slop on SPF30+ broad-spectrum water-resistant sunscreen and reapply every 2 hours
3. Slap on a hat - broad brimmed
4. Seek shade – especially when waiting their turn
5. Slide on some sunglasses (optional)
6. Slurp – remember to drink water throughout the day to remain hydrated.

Library News
Help wanted for book covering We have some new books at the Lower Campus Library that need to be covered. If you have some spare time, we would be very grateful for a volunteer to assist. The best day to volunteer would be Wednesday or Thursday. Perhaps just after drop-off in the morning would be good. There isn’t a huge amount to do but help every so often would be appreciated.
About Book Club Thank you to those who may have purchased books from Book club. Our school library benefits in a small way from any books bought via a type of commission. Books ordered will definitely arrive before the school holidays. St Mary’s only has Book club three times per year. The next Book club will be in Term 4. In Term 3, we will be having a Book Fair.

Reading Focus: Predicting
Next week we continue our focus on the Super Six Strategy of Predicting. Good readers use information from graphics, text and experiences to anticipate what will be read/ viewed/ heard and to actively adjust comprehension while reading/ viewing/ listening. Questions starters you could ask:
The heading gives a clue about the text because…. The picture gives me a clue about the text because…. I think the text is going to be about….. I think that there might be a problem/solution about…. What I already know about this is….. What I would like to know about this is…. I think I will learn about …..in the text because...
