St Therese’s Catholic Primary School (Diocese of Menevia) ‘Be Joyful, Learn and keep the Faith’ Dear Parents, Today marks the beginning of the summer term, but due to the ongoing Covid-19 lockdown, schools in Wales will not be re-opening their doors to all learners for the foreseeable future. Kirsty Williams (Education Minister for Wales) has stated, ‘that schools will only reopen when the scientific advice says it is safe to do so but, even then, we cannot assume that it will be an immediate return to business as usual’. In St. Therese’s, we believe the most important thing in this time of unprecedented change is the safety and well-being of our children and we will continue doing all we can to support you throughout this period whilst schools remain closed. However, this disruption provides many challenges for us in education in ensuring that pupils continue to make progress. In this way we hope you recognise that you have an important role in supporting schools with your child’s education as you would normally do. Our task now is to find ways to help our children keep learning – this means enabling remote learning wherever possible and planning for how we can best help you through this time. In St. Therese’s, we have already provided our pupils with extensive remote access learning opportunities via our school website. Thank you for accessing these materials which will enable your child to continue to make educational progress through this period of school closure. It is important to recognise that whilst you as parents have now become your child’s primary educator, we do not expect you to recreate school at home. This is an impossible task and you should not put unrealistic expectations upon yourselves and your children to achieve this and that it is essential to prioritise good mental and physical well-being throughout the home learning period. However, we do recommend some sort of routine during the day that would allow for a structured approach to learning so that when your child does eventually return to school, they will be in a better position to adjust to the school day again. To help you achieve this structured approach, we are now recommending that as a minimum every day you use a home learning platform called ‘Oak National Academy’ which has been launched today. Please see information below: (Every Day) ALL PUPILS IN ST. THERESE’S SCHOOL Access the following website everyday: https://www.thenational.academy/ Click on ‘Online Classroom’. Click on ‘Schedule’.
