FIRST SATURDAY DEVOTIONS

100th Year Anniversary of Fatima Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 A.M.

Saturday, October 7 St. Frances Cabrini, Wyoming

The First Saturday Devotion was requested by the Virgin Mary in an apparition to Lucia of Fatima at Pontevedra, Spain, in December 1925. The faithful are encouraged to receive the Sacra-ment of Reconciliation and Holy Communion, as well as pray the Rosary, in order to receive the full benefit of this Devotion.

Celebration of Ministry

Our annual event will be held on Fri., September 29th. If you serve on a committee or ministry and have not received an invitation, please contact Terri at 570-696-1144 ASAP.

Hurricane Harvey Emergency Collection

Over the past several days, all of us have been following the his-toric flooding in southeast Tex-as. Hurricane Harvey is a cata-strophic weather event of enor-mous proportions. Twelve mil-lion people thus far have been

affected. The United States Conference of Catho-lic Bishops has requested that each diocese partic-ipate in an emergency collection to assist the vic-tims of Hurricane Harvey. This collection will occur in the Diocese of Scranton during the week-end of September 9th and 10th. This emergency collection will be used both to support the human-itarian and recovery efforts of Catholic Charities USA and to provide pastoral and rebuilding sup-port to impacted dioceses through the USCCB.

Thank you for your cooperation with this effort and may we continue to hold in prayer all those affected by this natural disaster.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION: Plans and prepara-tions are underway for the upcoming religious education year. If your child is not registered, please contact Denise Williams at 570-696-1144 as soon as possible.

“Since our earliest days we have been taught how to pray by the words that Jesus himself shared with us in the scriptures. He began that prayer by say-ing ‘Our Father’. We walk together as brothers and sisters in the light of Christ by the very nature of our faith. In his great instruction to us, Evangelii Gaudum (The Joy of the Gospel), Pope Francis invites us all to missionary discipleship as authen-tic followers of the Lord Jesus. Missionary disci-pleship calls us to go out of ourselves and to preach the Gospel and to respond to the needs of our brothers and sisters with whom we walk.”

~ Bishop Joseph C. Bambera

Our Holy Father tells us, “God’s heart has a spe-cial place for the poor, so much so that he himself ‘became poor.’” He explains that the proclamation of the Gospel “is itself the prime form of charity.”

You are invited to join with parishioners across the Diocese as they “Walk Together in the Light of Christ” proclaiming the Gospel by supporting the many ministries and services made possible through gifts to the 2017 Annual Appeal through-out the 11 counties of our Diocese.

A VOCATION STORY

Did you know that nearly half of the 10, 000 indi-viduals discerning a vocation each year are pre-vented from pursuing their call because of out-standing educational loans? Caitlin Cromley, a 2015 Misercordia University Graduate and now candidate with the Capuchin Sisters of Nazareth will be visiting St. Therese’s Parish the weekend of our Patron’s Feast Day, Sept. 31 and Oct. 1, to speak at all of the Masses about her vocational journey and the impact of student loans on vocations nationwide and to ask for your help. You can learn more about Caitlin at www.laboursociety.org/caitlin. May God bless and keep you. St. Therese, pray for us!

The prayers and support of the parish are extended to the families of the following in the midst of their grief and mourning: Hans Menzel; father of Barbara Menzel & Jennifer Reese.
