STEAMfest February Intersession 2017 Overview: We are excited to share our next Intersession - STEAMfest! Where curiosity meets perseverance. During the last two weeks of February, EBIA students will be participating in Engineering and Arts projects focused on using the Design Thinking Process while they build and create. Logistics: Students will submit project preferences in advisory the week of January 23rd, and will receive their project assignments via email the week of February 6th. Projects will run February 21st through February 28th. The STEAMFest presentation of student projects will be on the evening of February 27th from 6-8pm at EBIA. Intersession will run from 9:00am to 3:30pm. Please note, on intersession days there will be no EBIA Quest after-school program. Pick-up is at 3:30pm for all students. Most projects will take place at EBIA. For those students in off-site projects, transportation will be provided by EBIA. Therefore, for all students, pick up and drop off will be at EBIA. On intersession project days, students will begin and end their day in advisory. After the conclusion of intersession projects, students will be in their courses and with their advisors on March 1st for PLP preparation. March 2nd and 3rd are PLP conference days. Please note, these days are non-attendance days for students. Advisors will schedule and hold PLP meetings with their advisory families. Claymation Filmmakers

Calling all filmmakers! Collaborating with Chabot Space and Science Center staff, you will learn the skills to write, design, build, and record your own claymation film on climate change. Films will be submitted to compete in the Clear the Air Film Festival!

Play Lab I 6th/7th EBIA Love the stage? Berkeley Rep School of Theater is here to lead you in a Performance Lab. Combine theatre, movement, voice, and play writing. Mix problem solving and creative expression as we work together to build a one-of-a-kind show.

Wearable Tech Fashion Design

6th/7th EBIA A billion dollar business, Wearable Technology is BIG and getting bigger. Join us as we make our own wearable circuits and products with fixes for sports, fashion, heathcare, and more. We'll combine programming, circuits, and overall design to develop ideas just like real silicon valley hackers do in hackathons.

Hip Hop for Humanity

6th/7th EBIA Change the world through Hip Hop. Connect with people and groups around the world as we learn more about humanity thorough Hip Hop. Become a youth humanitarian with Johwell St. Cilien, co-founder of NegusWorld. Negus Up! Nigist Up!

Sound Engineering

6th/7th EBIA Music makers unite! Fall in love with music, find out what notes are hiding in between the keys of a piano, and build instruments from made and found objects in this project with Thingamajigs.

Mural Art 6th/7th EBIA Leave your mark. Design and create an outside mural for EBIA's new outdoor makerspace.

Hip Hop Studio

7th/8th EBIA Become a Hip Hop Advocate. Learn DJing, Breaking, MCing, and Graffiti Art with artists from HipHopForChange. Connect with the history and culture of Hip Hop and use your new skills to record and release your rap song.

Industrial Stage Design

7th/8th EBIA with one-day trip to

NIMBY

Explore the world of industrial set and stage design as you build a full stage set-up with industrial artist Ken Griswa. This hands-on project includes hand and power tools and an offsite field trip visit to NIMBY, an industrial art workshop space in Oakland.

TURF Storytellers

7th/8th EBIA What started as a street dance style has grown into a movement with the world’s attention. TURF dancing is a dance style created by Oakland youth to express and empower ourselves through movement and art. TURF dancing is a combination of boogaloo, miming, breakdancing, footwork, house dancing, and storytelling.

Electric Teddy Bear

7th/8th EBIA Build your own creation and make it move! Learn how to hardwire a device with reprogrammable software with Eric Minnik, co-founder of AE Machines. Dancing teddy bears dance are just the start.

Graphic Artists

7th/8th EBIA Got a story to tell? Let your imagination run wild in this drawing and painting class. Students will learn different pen, ink, and watercolor techniques to create your own comic/storyboard and movie poster.

Gamers Unite

7th/8th EBIA Calling all video gamers. Create and design games as we build skills to thrive in technology. Skills include coding, art, creative writing, design thinking, project management, team building, animation and game theory. Dive into this gaming challenge.

Media Team 7th-8th EBIA Be apart of our Intersession Media Team. Tell the story of EBIA STEAMfest and share the process of innovation and design.

Intercesión de febrero 2017

Visión de conjunto: Estamos entusiasmado de compartir nuestra próxima intercesión – STEAMfest! Adonde la curiosidad se encuentra con la perseverancia. Durante las últimas semanas de febrero, los estudiantes de EBIA participaran en Ingeniería y Proyectos de Arte enfocados en usar el proceso de pensamiento de diseño mientras ellos construyen y hacen.

Logística:

● Estudiantes someterán sus preferencia de Proyecto en consejería la semana del 23 de enero, y recibirán sus

asignatura de Proyecto vía correo electrónico la semana del 6 de febrero. ● Proyectos correrán desde el 21 al 28 de febrero . Las presentaciones sobre los proyectos de STEAMfest tomaran

lugar la noche del 27 de febrero de 6-8pm en EBIA.

● Intercesión correrá de 9:00 am a 3:30 pm . Por favor de tomar nota, durante días de intercesión no tendremos el

programa después de escuela Quest. Todos los estudiantes necesitan ser recogidos para las 3:30 pm . ● La mayoría de los proyectos tomaran lugar en EBIA. Para los estudiantes en proyectos fuera del predio,

transportación será proveído por EBIA. Entonces, para todos los estudiantes, la entrega y retirada será en EBIA.

● En días de proyectos de intercesión, estudiantes comenzaran y terminaran sus días en consejería.

● Después de la conclusión de proyectos de intercesión, los estudiantes estarán en sus clases y con sus consejeros

el 1 de marzo para las presentaciones de PLP. El 2 y 3 de marzo son los días de conferencia PLP. Por favor de

tomar nota, estos días son días de no asistencia para los estudiantes. Los consejeros programaran y mantendrán

las reuniones con los familiares de su consejería.

Oportunidades de Voluntario

● Roles

○ Apoyo para los proyectos:

■ Supervisión – Le gusta pasar tiempo con la juventud pero no tiene experiencia en la área de

Proyecto? Puede ser voluntario para apoyar supervisar y proveer apoyo durante el descanso de

almuerzo, movimiento durante los sitios de proyecto y ayuda en general.

■ Facilitador – ¿Tiene experiencia profesional o personal en las áreas de Proyecto? Sea un

voluntario para facilitar y proveer más asistencia directa a instructores para diseñar y construir

proyectos.

○ Apoya de Logística – ¿Tiene una fuerza en manejo de Proyecto y organización? Sea un voluntario para

apoyar con la lógica y apoyar con comunicación a las familias, media y planear e organizar STEAMfest.

○ Completar nuestro documento de interés STEAMfest Volunteer Interest Form

○ Asistir nuestra orientación de voluntarios en EBIA el miércoles, 15 de febrero de 6-7pm. Nuevos y

voluntarios previos tienen que asistir.
