Deep River Aquatic Species at the Carbonton DamLearn about aquatic species and why they are important on this outing around the former Carbonton Dam site on the Deep River where Chatham, Lee, and Moore counties meet. The dam removal in 2005 was the largest dam removal project in the state and one of the largest in the U.S. It was removed to improve water quality and aquatic species habitat in that area of the Deep River. Our guides will be Catherine Deininger with Biocenosis and Jeannie Ambrose. Picnic tables are available in the Park so bring a picnic lunch to enjoy after the outing. Meet in the parking lot by the former dam. Directions from Goldston: Take the Goldston-Carbonton Road south to Highway 42, turn left on Highway 42, go a short distance and the park is on the left after you cross over the Deep River.
