Why Sage Y Preschool?Our curriculum offers your child many opportunities to make decisions and to grow in their independence. Monthly themes are designed around basic skills, letters and continents. Each child's language is enhanced through the use of music, finger plays and dramatic play. During our art and craft activities, children can explore numerous ways of expressing their creativity. Academic skills are worked into daily curriculum, which help prepare children for Kindergarten. Sage Y Preschool includes gym and weekly swim lesson.

Health and Fitness DescriptionsAthlete Conditioning Take your fitness to the next level this summer with this high-intensity Summer Athlete Conditioning class. Using plyometric drills, strength and cardiovascular intervals and agility training, this class will push your limits, make you stronger and test your athletic endurance. Stay in shape during the off season, get fit for fall sports and become a stronger athlete! This class will be held outdoors, weather permitting.

Extreme Conditioning Are you ready to dig deep? Extreme fitness will push your limits with high-intensity plyometric, strength, cardiovascular, core and agility training. By using the muscle confusion techniques, this class constantly introduces new moves and routines so your body never plateaus and you never get bored! This class will be held outdoors, weather permitting.

Qigong Meditation Focus the mind with breathing techniques and gentle moving standing poses. Align the body, improve balance and coordination through the continuous flowing slow meditative motions.

Kids Yoga Looking for a calming, physical activity for your child? Kids Yoga allows kids to have fun while learning the proper form and breathing techniques. When children do yoga, it enhances their self-esteem, body awareness, flexibility and strength. Yoga also improves concentration and coordination. The class techniques will be progressive, so all fitness levels can practice yoga together.

Youth-Teen Sports DescriptionsYouth Dodgeball Super fun and super exercise! Join us on Monday nights for youth dodgeball; girls and boys are welcome! Kids get to play on a team, thing strategy, work on coordination and have a great time doing it!

Power Kicks Soccer Grades Get involved in this fun, active, skill-building soccer league. This is a great class for soccer rookies and those who want to improve their basic soccer skills. Each week will focus on new skills, sportsmanship, team building and fun! Teams will be broken into age-appropriate groups for practices and scrimmages.

Outdoor All Stars This brand new offering from Sage YMCA focuses on being outdoors and enjoying the games that are played outside. We will play different outdoor games such as flag football, capture the flag and ultimate frisbee, as well as play some fun lawn games like baggo. If you love being outside and participating in activities, then sign up for some great outdoor action. Join the fun!

Kyuki Do Martial Arts Kyuki-Do is a Korean martial art that primarily incorporates elements of Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido and Judo. Students will learn self-defense, develop better hand-eye coordination and grow in self-discipline. Classes are open to children ages 6 and up and adults.

Youth Archery Learn the art of archery! This introductory program will teach you the proper body positioning,safety, arm turn and control, proper draw, increased distance and archery scoring.

Youth Floor Hockey Join the fun, and be part of our youth, co-ed floor hockey league. This program is open to youth ages 6-12 of all ability levels. Your child will enjoy the fun of being on a team with the structure of instruction, teamwork and sportsmanship. All equipment will be provided by the YMCA. The YMCA staff will administer instruction and scrimmages to make sure all children receive equal playing time.

Youth Tennis This introductory tennis program is designed to develop early tennis skills. Your child will learn the basics of serving, colleying the ball, proper stand and swings and the rules of the game, all while making friends who have the same interests! Your child will be grouped with kids of the same skill level.

Parent-Child Aquatics DescriptionsLevel 1: Shrimp Level Ages 6-8 months. Preschool Aquatics DescriptionsLevel 1 Pike The first level of lessons is for beginner swimmers. Swimmers should be able to listen to instructions and follow directions. Level 2: Eel Swimmers will learn to jump in without assistance, float on their front and back for 20 seconds with or without an IFD. Swimmers will also learn to paddle on front, back and side for 25 yards with an IFD and 15 feet without.

Level 3: Ray In this class swimmers will learn to front and back float 30 seconds without an IFD; front alternating paddle with rhythmic breathing 25 yards with an IFD, and 20 feet without. Swimmers will also learn front symmetrical paddle with rhythmic breathing 25 yards with an IFD, and 20 feet without; do a side alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without; back alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without; and back symmetrical paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without.

Level 4: Starfish In this class swimmers will learn to do a standing dive; basic front crawl rotary breathing 25 yards; basic breaststroke 25 yards; backstroke 25 yards; elementary backstroke 25 yards; basic sidestroke 25 yards; and tread water 1 minute.

Private and Semi-Private Swim Lessons Private and semi-private lessons are accommodating to the busy schedules of families. Both private and semi-private lessons can be purchased in packages of 5, 30 minutes lessons. We work with all abilities, concentrating on swimming basics for beginners and stroke development for more advanced swimmers. An information form must be completed at the Member Relations Desk in order to enroll. The Aquatics Director will contact those interested and scheduled based on instructor availability.

Youth Aquatics DescriptionsLevel 1: Polliwog This is the beginning level for school age children and is appropriate for anyone new to the water or with little formal instruction. Children will learn the basic paddle stroke on their front, back and sides, kicking skills and will become comfortable putting their face in the water.

Level 2: Guppy Swimmers will learn to front and back float 1-minute; front alternating paddle 25 yards with rhythmic breathing with and without an IFD; front symmetrical paddle 25 yards; back symmetrical paddle 25 yards; back alternating paddle 25 yards; side alternating paddle 25 yards; and kneeling dive.

Level 3: Minnow Swimmers will learn to do a standing dive; basic front crawl rotary breathing 25 yards; basic breaststroke 25 yards; backstroke 25 yards; elementary backstroke 25 yards; basic sidestroke 25 yards; and tread water 1 minute.

Level 4: Fish Swimmers will learn to tread water for 3-minutes; swim 50 yards front crawl; swim 50 yards breaststroke with legal kick and arm pulls; swim 50 yards backstroke; swim 50 yards elementary backstroke with a glide; swim 50 yards sidestroke with a scissors kick; and swim 15 yards butterfly.

Level 5: Flying Fish In this class swimmers will learn to do a flip turn; swim 100 yards front crawl with bilateral breathing; swim 100 yards breaststroke; swim 100 yards backstroke; swim 100 yards elementary backstroke; swim 100 yards sidestroke alternating sides; swim 100 yards lifesaving sidestroke; and swim 15 yards butterfly.

Level 6: Shark In this class swimmers will learn to take their own heart rate; learn about open water and backyard pool safety; swim 100 yards from crawl with flip turns; swim 100 yards breaststroke with pull-out; swim 50 yards inverted breaststroke; swim 100 yards backstroke with dolphin kick and pullout; swim 50 yards over arm side stroke; swim 25 yards butterfly with streamline; and swim 200 yards individual medley.

Level 7: Porpoise This level differs from other levels in that the format allows older children and teens the opportunity to develop a program that fits their interests after they complete the Shark Level. Participants will expand upon the five main points of YMCA swim lessons in create ways that they help develop while they learn leadership skills and the value of community service.

Private and Semi-Private Swim Lessons Private and semi-private lessons are accommodating to the busy schedules of families. Both private and semi-private lessons can be purchased in packages of 5, 30 minutes lessons. We work with all abilities, concentrating on swimming basics for beginners and stroke development for more advanced swimmers. Want to be a Pirahna?Summer Swim Team Swimmers are separated by age. Price includes swim meet fees. Swimmers 8 years and younger must be able to swim at least 25 yards of freestyle and 25 yards of backstroke to qualify for the team. Swimmers 9 years and older must be able to swim at least 50 yards of freestyle and 50 yards of backstroke to qualify for the team. All swim team members must be current YMCA members. The Piranhas participate in both YMCA and USA Swimming meets. All Piranhas must be USA Swimming members for 2014.

LIFEGUARD TRAINING

Want to be a Lifeguard?American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Are you interested in becoming a professional lifeguard? Here's your chance. Upon successful completion of the class you will recieve certifications in Lifeguarding, First Aid & CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer; certifcation is good for 2 years. Participants must complete prerequisites (Must be 15 years old, swim 300 yards continuously, tread water for two minutes without using hands, swim & retrive a 10 pound object from water 7-10 feet deep in less than one minute and 40 seconds), attend all classes and pass written and practical exams. Participation does not guarentee certification. Fee includes $50 non refundable deposit at time of registration.
