CAMP INFORMATION

OUR STAFF AND CAMP COMMUNITY We are extremely selective when it comes to hiring our summer camp counselors. We hire only THE BEST. As a result, we hire only highly motivated, energetic counselors with a commitment to FUN -- and an equal commitment to camper safety. All staff are college-age or above, and most are pursuing degrees in education or recreation. All staff participate in a comprehensive, week-long training, including on-site certification in CPR and First Aid. In addition, our lifeguards are American Red Cross certified.

Staff work closely with campers to promote a spirit of teamwork, cooperation, and appreciation. All campers are expected to follow our behavior contract, and adhere to the four core values of the YMCA. These are caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. If a camper's conduct jeopardizes the physical or emotional well-being of others, he/she may be dismissed from the program. While no one is forced to participate in an activity, staff are trained to help campers feel included, and every effort is made to encourage participation. Our goal is to ensure that every child feels connected and is a valued member of our camp family.DROP OFF & PICK UP PROCEDURES For your convenience, we will once again offer "valet" drop off and pick up so that parents do not have to leave their vehicle. This will be conducted at the circular drive located in front of the large pavilion during the hours of 6:30am-9am for drop off, and 4pm-6pm for pick up.

If you are dropping off or picking up a camper during camp hours (between 9am and 4pm), you must notify the camp director, Nikki, via email or phone ahead of time. In this case, you will also have to park and check in at the Sage YMCA front desk to drop off or pick up your child. Unexpected late drop offs or early picks ups will not be allowed.

A photo ID is required at pick up every day. Anyone picking up your child must be listed on the 'AUTHORIZED PICK UP" section of the registration form. This procedure will be strictly enforced, as this is for your child's protection.

WHAT TO BRING TO CAMP We Ask that all campers in both Traditional Camps and all Specialty Camps remember to bring each of the following to camp every day:

• Swimsuit and towel• Water bottle• Lunch (in an insulated bag) and drink

(no glass please)• Healthy afternoon snack• Spray-on (no rub) sunscreen• Bug spray• Hat or visor• Closed-toed shoes (no sandals or flip flops)• Discovery will also need:• Healthy morning snack• Small pillow & blanket (Full-Day Discovery)

PRESCHOOL 2016-2017 PROGRAM At the Sage YMCA, we regard each child as a unique individual who needs to be understood, guided, encouraged and appreciated. At this early age, play is a child's most important form of learning.

We are proud to utilize the Creative Curriculum at the Sage YMCA, which uses exploration and discovery as a way of learning and enables children to develop confidence, creativity, and lifelong critical thinking skills. The Creative Curriculum is based on 38 objectives for development and learning, which are fully aligned with the early learning standards for every state.

Goals of Preschool:

• To nurture and teach social and emotional readiness; the process by which children learn problem solving, decision making and conflict resolution.

• To promote physical development; achieving gross motor control and fine motor coordination

• To provide opportunities for children to explore their creativity through multi-sensory art experiences

• To create a language-rich environment that promotes and fosters a love of reading

*Tuition includes weekly swim lessons and gym class.

The camp is nestled in the heart of the Manistee National Forest near Muskegon, Michigan. It’s convenient but remote enough to ensure that everyone enjoys the natural beauty of the camp’s 200-acre facility.

YMCA Family Camp NawakwaFamily Camp Nawakwa offers a unique experience- an opportunity to bring together whole families, not just children, through camping. The camp sits on 180 acres of pristine forest lands, and includes wetlands and lakes with abundant wildlife. The camp is nestled in Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin, which is home to the Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians.

YMCA Camp IndependenceCamp Independence is a special place for campers age seven and up with spina bifida. At camp, kids become a community as they learn both how to be more independent and how to contribute to a group. We teach self-reliance, a love for nature, and the development of attitudes and practices that build character. Our counselors are dedicated to making sure camp is an amazing experience for every camper.
