But always be careful not to say it with ink.” — Anonymous There were probably two different men considered to be St. Valentine, and both were supposedly beheaded on February 14. The more commonly accepted legend identifies St. Valentine as a priest in early Rome around the year 260. The Roman emperor at that time forbade his soldiers to marry because he believed that single men made better soldiers. In the name of love and in defiance of the emperor’s edict, Valentine secretly married soldiers and their ladies and paid the price with his execution. Tradition places the first Valentine letter around 1415. This was when a Frenchman, the Duke of Orléans, was captured in battle and imprisoned in the Tower of London. From there, he composed rhymed love letters to his wife. In England during the 1700s, women wrote men’s names on little bits of paper, encased them in a piece of clay and dropped all the clay pieces into a pond. The first paper to rise to the top was supposedly the name of the woman’s true love. In the 18th-century, some unmarried women pinned five bay leaves to the center and four corners of their pillows on February 13. According to tradition, that night they would dream of their future husband. Some recited a verse before sleep: “Good Valentine, be kind to me, in dreams let me my true love see.” Perhaps this is where we derive the expression “the man of my dreams”! Keep It LocalBuying bird seed doesn’t have to

be an adventure. Many local grocery and hardware stores keep plenty on hand.

A basic seed mix works because it has a little bit of everything. Pure black

Challenging The Way We Think and Live in the Coming Week

During yesterdays worship service and one of the constant themes in my quiet times with God lately has been that of thankfulness. He hit me between the eyes with this scripture from I Thessalonians 5:16:18. Clearly the Scripture says that we should be thankful in all situations…and that being thankful is God’s will! Also in Phillipians 4:6-7 God says, “Hey, instead of worrying about everything…why not spend some time thanking me?”

I’ve noticed that when I spend more and more time thanking God for all He has done that I am less likely to worry about all that He is doing because, through thanksgiving, I understand that He is faithful!

So…I made a list of things I am thankful for…

That Jesus loves me and saved me! He didn’t have too! (Titus 3:4-7)

A wife who loves me and can see through my faults and takes the time to talk to me about it instead of about me! (Proverbs 31:10-12 is her!!!)

The Holy discontent He placed in our

Christian life that called us to plant RCCC and the fact that He has allowed me to serve here. I really do love our Church family!

The AMAZING friendships He’s blessed me with…I literally get to work with the people that I love! AND…He’s brought so many pastors and ministry leaders into my life that actually care…which is awesome.

The team I get to serve with and the authenticity and passion for Jesus that each person shares.

My health!Ice cream!Sports!Yes, I am serious about the last two!Here’s my challenge to you…make a list…

and say “thanks!”And if your worried about something…take

some time thanking God for all He has done in your life. I promise it will take the focus off of your problem and place it on His faithfulness!

Just maybe we should allow the real life example of Jesus to challenge the way we think and live in the coming week.

I Am ThAnkful for…By Pastor Len Stubbs

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

— I Thessalonians 5:16:18
