Ten Seconds of Fame - Gather.com : Gather.com I had my ten seconds of fame today, and I admit that while I am pretty blasse about most things, this had my heart racing and put a big smile on my face for a few minutes. I was watching The Situation Room on CNN when they had a regular segment called The Cafferty File in which the moderator presented the story about the U.S. Embassy in Iraq. It's a monstrous place, approximately the size of Vatican City according to the story. It cost (to date) about $750 million dollars, is so far over budget as to make the term "budget" meaningless, and the work is so shoddy and so unacceptable that the opening has been indefinitely delayed. The moderator asked for comments on what we thought of the whole thing. I had my laptop in my lap as I had been working on a story idea, so I opened up my email, typed up a short response, and sent it off. About 20 minutes later, Mr. Cafferty read it in its entirety. Wow. That was really cool. Yeah I know. I am easily amused. But there you have it. Oh yes. The comment was this:

Ten Seconds of Fame - Gather.com : Gather.com

I had my ten seconds of fame today, and I admit that while I am pretty blasse about most things, thishad my heart racing and put a big smile on my face for a few minutes.

I was watching The Situation Room on CNN when they had a regular segment called The CaffertyFile in which the moderator presented the story about the U.S. Embassy in Iraq. It's a monstrousplace, approximately the size of Vatican City according to the story. It cost (to date) about $750million dollars, is so far over budget as to make the term "budget" meaningless, and the work is soshoddy and so unacceptable that the opening has been indefinitely delayed. The moderator asked forcomments on what we thought of the whole thing.

I had my laptop in my lap as I had been working on a story idea, so I opened up my email, typed up ashort response, and sent it off. About 20 minutes later, Mr. Cafferty read it in its entirety. Wow. Thatwas really cool. Yeah I know. I am easily amused. But there you have it.

Oh yes. The comment was this:

That boondoggle of an embassy will stand as a permanent monument to George Bush's ineptitude, and the failure of his policies in Iraq. It was started with inadequate knowledge and planning, carried out without oversight and apparently without a master plan for success, and in the end willstand empty as a hollow tribute to everything that went wrong over there. Mr. Bush cannot afford tofund health programs for poor children but he has no problem dumping money down a rat hole withprojects such as this.

And for those who might ask, no I didn't save a copy of it. When I saw it on CNN I went diggingthrough my email archive and cut and pasted it so I had a copy. After all, one doesn't lightly forgetone's moment of fame. *grin*
