National Reconciliation Week 2020 Each class at our school will do their own activities to acknowledge the ongoing process of reconciliation during National Reconciliation Week, which ends tomorrow.

We have discussed ‘Sorry Day’ and the Stolen Generation. We have been celebrating the Aboriginal culture through stories and artworks. This year’s theme is: In this together.

Sport Sport day has returned to Wednesday. Sports uniform should be worn on Wednesdays only. Whilst we will not be having organised sport coaches visiting our school we will be having organised physical education lessons each Wednesday. Library Library lessons have recommenced. Please return and borrow books in a library bag. The library sessions are: Years 3-6 Monday K-1-2 Tuesday Reporting and assessment Our reports will be modified this semester due to Covid-19. Semester 1 reports will be given to parents and students at a Group Interview in Week 3 of Term 3. Group interviews will include student, parents/carers and teacher. Bookings for these will be scheduled with families at the beginning of Term 3. Thank you to all the families who returned their child’s ‘Remote Learning at Home’ feedback form. There are still a number outstanding so if you have received another copy of this form with today’s newsletter, we would greatly appreciate it if you could complete and return it by Friday 5 June. Yoogali Young Starters Yoogali Young Starters will return to our school tomorrow Wednesday, 3 June 2020. We are really excited to have them return to their normal routine. An email has been sent home to these families outlining the requirements for their return to YPS. We would like to warmly welcome two new classmates, and their families! Tyler and Claudia will join YYS this week. We can’t wait to get to know you both. Breakfast Club

Hot milo, toast and cereal will be available daily for 50c a day or $2 a week per students. Families can call the school for a reduced price. This is a nutritious and delicious way to start the day for those who haven’t had breakfast at home and has been hugely popular in the past. The children are self-sufficient with a little guidance from Mrs Danielle Pfitzner, our Chaplain.

B Kinder Day B Kinder day is designed to empower children to make a difference through human kindness The b kinder initiative and resources are promoting empathy and compassion in children with the ultimate aim of reducing mental health issues, bullying and suicide.

12 year old Billie Kinder died in a tragic accident in May 2016. Billie was an extraordinary girl in that she had the gift of giving. She gave through her smile, her thoughtfulness, her constant acts of kindness and her amazing gift of words. Through Billie's empathy and insight, her b kinder legacy empowers and inspires others and remind us all that our actions matter and that we each have the power to make a difference through human kindness.

With a play on her name, Billie's legacy has become one of kindness and through the b kinder initiative ‘flyhighbillie’ is having a huge, positive impact on young people's lives.

Leading adviser and psychologist, Dr. Michael Carr-Gregg states that as a child and adolescent psychologist he is concerned about our young people more than ever.

With that in mind, Billie's b kinder resources have been developed with the expertise of teachers and psychologists and are unique, positive, interactive, tangible learning tools that help children and young people to explore and express what it means to be kind.

The b kinder initiative and resources are promoting empathy and compassion in school age children and are reducing severe mental health issues, bullying and suicide.

This year Yoogali Public School will be taking part in b kinder day on Monday 22 June. More details to follow next week. Drop off & Pick up There should be no visitor to our school site unless they are essential. Social distancing needs to be adhered to when you drop off and pick up your child. Please bring your child to the gate in the morning and let them in. Please avoid congregating there and PLEASE maintain social distancing.

You are welcome to come into the school if you have business in the office, otherwise, we ask that you let your child in and leave. In the afternoons, we must be all mindful of minimising our social contacts AND keeping all students SAFE.

• Students will wait inside the gate until all family members are ready to walk SAFELY to a vehicle with their parent/carer.

• Parents/carers are asked to stand on one of the yellow dots on the path and avoid waiting in the middle of the car park so that cars can drive out safely.

• Please do NOT park in the first parking bay. Please leave this for parents/ carers to wait for their children if there are no yellow dots available.

• Please move to your vehicle promptly once you have collected your children. • Mrs McWhirter will not allow students to walk to vehicles on their own, for everyone’s

safety.

Parents /carers are asked to

siblings behind the gate No parking in bay 1- overflow

School cleaning and hygiene supplies Our school has received a constant supply of hygiene products and our staff will continue to remind students to wash their hands regularly. All precautions are being made to keep the school, students and staff clean.

All students should be at school unless: • they have a medical certificate which states that they are unable to return to school due

to an ongoing medical condition • they are currently unwell. If their illness reflects any of the COVID-19 symptoms, your

child must stay home and be tested. Please notify the school of this.

If your child is unwell, do not send them to school. If they are unwell at school, you or your nominated emergency contact will need to collect them immediately. Please ensure your child’s contact details are up to date.

P&C Winter Raffle Raffle tickets were due back last but unfortunately many were not returned and our draw was postponed until this Thursday 4 June at 3:00pm. The Hopkins family will be able to arrange delivery of the load of wood once we know who the lucky winner is. Good Luck and thank you to those who supported this very successful fundraiser!

Please be reminded that our P&C raises money for all our students’ benefit. The money they raise goes directly to the students enrolled at our school. The P&C subsidises excursions, bus travel and last year contributed to Life Education Van costs so that all students received a workbook and took part in activities with Healthy Harold. We ask that you support your own children by helping with the fundraisers that they organise. Any donation you can provide would be greatly appreciated by all.

THE WEEK THAT WAS…. ________________________________________________

Minute to win it!! Friday afternoon we had a wonderful time with our PBL rewards session. It was fun as well as educational. Thank you Mrs Campbell for organising a fabulous afternoon.

National Simultaneous Storytime Whitney & Britney Chicken Divas was read by the author and illustrator, Lucinda Gifford, simultaneously across the country on Wednesday and we joined in with this with over 1 million Australian children. Re-launch of Breakfast Club Yesterday we had pancakes and hot milos for breakfast to celebrate the relaunch our Breakfast Club. We are so excited to restart this invaluable program for our students. Attendance Matters As you are well aware students learn best when they are at school with their friends and teachers. We miss them when they are late or away. Each minute your child is abesent they are missing out on valuable learning interactions and experiences at school. Please send your children to school every day. Attendance Matters!
