Significant Flood Forecast for River Chenab at Trimmu as of 8-9-2014

Due to a second flood wave in River Chenab peak in River Chenab Exceptionally High Flood Level (above

6,00,000 Cusecs ) at Trimmu shall persist for next 24 to 48 hours with a likely peak discharge of 8,00, 000 Cu-

secs,till 2100 PST of 12-09-2014.

Under this condition Districts Multan,Muzafargarh ,Khanewal, Jhang & Toba Taik Singh are likely to be inun-

dated.

All concerned authorities are requested to take all necessary measures to avoid any loss of life and property.

PRCS Response Updates as of 8-9-2014 A. National Head Quarter (NHQ): To respond to the situation, NHQ took lead to coordinate with the

branches and monitor the situation. So far PRCS NHQ has done the following:-

1. At National Level, the Operational Room has been made functional to coordinate with PRCS Provincial/

Regional Branches, Movement Partners and other line departments, while logistics and other neces-

sary arrangements are being harmonized.

2. PRCS website and DMIS is being updated on regular basis.

3. A Rapid Assessment Team of NDRT had completed the assessment of Sialkot and Narowal and come up

with the following recommendations:-

Provision of Food Items and Non Food Items except tents.

Medical health units have deployed in the field by health department, however, ambulances are

required alongwith anti medicines of skin, acute respiratory, malaria etc.

For clean draining water Aqua tabs are required.

4. While another team has been deployed for rapid assessment of flood affected areas of district Jhelum,

Gujrat, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahaud-din and Lahore and found that District Govt. is capable of dealing

with the situation therefore no intervention required.

B. Azad Jammu & Kashmir: Keeping in view the disaster situation the PRCS AJK State Branch in close coordina-

tion with SDMA has deployed 2 x assessment teams for District Bagh and 1 x assessment team in Poonch. In addi-

tion to this the district wise activities/response actions taken by AJK branch are as follows:

Muzaffarabad Coordination with the State Disaster Management Authorities and district branches and the volunteers.

Emergency operation center has been functionalized to coordinate with the stakeholders and PRCS District Branches and NHQ.

Deployment of BDRT/NDRTs in District Poonch, Bagh and Haveli

Bagh Rapid assessment done in UC Dharry, Bagh

ii. The distribution of emergency shelter and Non Food Items has done to the 62 x affected families of district Bagh.

Poonch District Secretary alongwioth 1 x NDRT member is present and coordinating with the author-ities.

District Office of MRE Hajira is declared as base camp of PRCS

2 x teams each comprised of 4 x members deployed to operate (assessment & distribution) from base office Hajira.

C. Punjab: PRCS Punjab Provincial Branch together with its District Branches of Sialkot, Narowal and

Gujrat is actively engaged in assessing the situation. The activities carried out by Punjab branch are as

follows;

1. 4 teams are being deployed in the field for rapid assessment. Each team comprised of 1 x NDRT

member alongwith 2 trained volunteers. The teams are deployed as under for the assessment of

areas:-

Team – A Jhang & Chiniot

Team – B Narowal, Sialkot, Gujrat, Gujranwala

Team – C Hafizabad and Mandi Bhaudin

Team – D Multan & Muzaffargarh

2. PHQ dispatched 300 food packs of 22 kg from own to be distributed in affected areas of Gujrat

D. Gilgit Baltistan: On request of Gilgit Disaster Management Authority, PRCS GB Branch is in process of providing relief assistance of 20 tents, 440 blankets, 140 Plastic Sheets, 70 Kitchen Sets and 70 stoves to 70 snowfall affected families of Daiosai, District Astore.

Act Alliance Update as of 8-9-2014 National and international response: Financial assistance of 500,000 rupees (USD 4,850) to families of de-

ceased persons and 100,000 rupees (USD 970) to injured persons was announced by Punjab’s Chief Minister.

Government bodies continue evacuation activities in affected areas. No official information on the need for

humanitarian assistance has been received. The humanitarian community, collectively and individually, has

worked on contingency plans for the 2014 monsoon season and coordination with the government and hu-

manitarian community to respond to needs when and where needed.

ACT Alliance response: The ACT Pakistan Forum is closely monitoring the situation and is in contact with its

partners and staff in the field for initial assessments. The ACT Pakistan Forum has also finalized its joint contin-

gency plan for the monsoon season and is ready to respond whenever required.

Planned activities: The Forum members are in coordination and communication with its partners, local stake-

holders and staff on ground. Assessments are being planned to get more accurate information on the situation

on ground.

Constraints: Access to affected communities is currently challenging owing to blocked and flooded sections of

roads.

The members of the ACT Pakistan Forum include Church World Service-Pakistan/Afghanistan, Norwegian Church Aid, Dia-

konie Katastrophenhilfe, and Christian Aid.

North Waziristan Agency (NWA) Displacement

PDMA Khyber Pakhtukhwa Updates as of 8-9-2014

Esaar-e-Pakhtunkhwa Program

Under the Esaar-e-Pakhtunkhwa Program, as of 8th

Sep, 2014, 48,500 families of NWA have received their Cash

payment of 1st Installment @ Rs. 8,000/- successfully. A total of Rs. 388 Millions have been disbursed so far.

Under the Esaar-e-Pakhtunkhwa Program, all the registered verified families of NWA will be provided with Rs.

23,000/. (Ramadan Package Rs.5, 000, Rs. 3,000/- monthly house rent).

Nutrition Cluster Partners Updates as of 28-8-2014 Organizations Update

UNICEF A total of 126 nutrition sites are active through U NICEF support in KP/FATA. Contingency partner-ship agreement with Relief Pakis tan has been activated to establish ten more nutrition sites in health facilities in district Bannu for providing nutrition services to an estimated target population of 200,000. The location of 10 new sites has been finalized in consultation with the District Health Officer, Bannu. The partner NGO still awaits NOC to start implementation. NCC has requested UNICEF to process the PCAs for supplies once partners will secure ERF funding.

UNWFP BSFP program is ongoing for Bannu and DIK so far the distribution reached to 67,184 children 6-59 months while 33,592 households have been assisted through the program. The total food distrib-uted is 168 MTs.

WHO WHO has requested to all active partners that all the referrals to stabilization center should be recorded and in case of refusal it shall be informed to WHO focal person immediately. WHO is going to organize a refresher training for SC staff in coming weeks.

MERLIN ( Peshawar, MERLIN is currently working in two districts Peshawar and Nowshera IDPs camp in 13 and 02 sites

Nowshera & Bannu) operational respectively integrated with Health supported by ERF and in kind donations from UNICEF and WFP through PCA and FLA. MERLIN have also planned to start preventive part of nu-trition in 16 union councils integrated with newly started nutrition activities by DGHS KPK/FATA. In addition to this MERLIN have also submitted proposal to ECHO for 08 Union Councils for integrat-ed health and nutrition activities.

ACTED Acted is currently working in Peshawar and Kohat implementing ECHO funded food security and livelihood project along with awareness rising for nutrition component. For karak, Bannu, FR Bun-nu, D.I.Khan, Kurrum agency , Orakzai agency and Khyber agency two more projects are confirmed and waiting NOC while three proposals have been submitted to different donors.. Currently Acted has NOC only for Peshawar and Kohat. In Kohat 112 families of NWA h ave been identified as well more than 200 in Peshawar while assessment is being carried out for identification of new IDPs in both districts.

ACF international ACF international is currently working in 05 union councils in district Kohat implementing inte-grated program of food security, WASH and nutrition. ACF is planning for post KAP survey in the mid of September, 2014. Proposal has been submitted to ECHO for extension of two more union councils in district Kohat as well emergency nutrition support in district Bannu for NWA IDPs.

FPHC (Kohat and DI Khan)

Currently FPHC is working in district Kohat and DI Khan in 20 union councils, 10 union councils in each district. Activities in Kohat are supported by UNICEF and in D. I. Khan district by ERF. Supplies for both districts are provided by UNICEF and WFP. Activities in DI Khan will be closed after Octo-ber, 2014 while in Kohat the project is up to November 15, 2014. In addition to this proposal has been submitted to ERF for emergency nutrition programme in district Bannu.

Prime Foundation Prime foundation is currently working in 10 UC’s of DI Khan supported by UNICEF and WFP, while new proposal has been submitted to ERF for district Lakki Marwat.

PEACE PEACE is working in four districts of KPK (Kurram, Nowshera, Hangu and Kohistan) supported by UNICEF and WFP. In district Kohistan PEACE is working in 04 union councils implementing only SFP program. Some of the areas are very remote where they are not able to access nutrition program. They have intended to extend the program and also start OTP component due to having high prevalence of malnutrition in district Kohistan. PEACE has mentioned a duplication issue with UNICEF/DoH integrated nutrition program in district Nowshera, NCC assured to resolve this issue along with all involved.

CDO (Swabi) CDO is currently working in district South Waziristan implementing nutrition programme in 06 union councils. CDO were operating from neighboring district through mobile teams in the month of Ramdan while they are now static in district South Waziristan having only OTP programme.

Relief Pakistan Relief Pakistan has mentioned a possible duplication issue with UNICEF/DoH collaborative inte-grated nutrition program in Nowshera and Peshawar; RP has mentioned that they were functional in those areas since longer and now the duplication has confused the situation. Cluster coordina-tor stressed that UNICEF and DoH shall sit with RP and bring up the possible solution; cluster co-ordinator will facilitate the process to reach an agreement.
