The Army Reserve Ambassador (ARA) Program was established in April 1998 for private citizens to promote
awareness of the Army Reserve and the identified goals and objectives of the Chief of Army Reserve (CAR).
ARAs are influential volunteers with significant ties to their communities who operate at state and local levels and
voluntarily represent the CAR without salary, wages or other benefits. Their function is similar to that of Civilian Aides to
the Secretary of the Army (CASA), and they carry a protocol status equivalent to a major general. This is a
key means by which Ambassadors are able to effectively execute their responsibilities.
ARAs are relied upon to: (a) seek support from elected offi-cials and engage stakeholders at the local and state levels; (b) Forge and sustain enduring relationships between AR
units and local communities to improve the understanding of and appreciation for the AR; (c) open doors in business and
industry and institutions of higher learning; and (d) educate and inform the
public/government/business/Military and Veteran Service Organizations about the value and positive return on
investment of the Army Reserve. These capabilities, skills and talents are what make ARAs so unique and valuable.
Local decision makers need to know how we fit into their communities and our opportunities to tell the AR story to this population are extremely limited. Our leaders of the AR units tend to be from outside the local communities and the many
burdens and requirements placed on commanders make them unable to devote scarce time to anything that looks like community outreach. If the AR story is to be told at all, some-
one needs to be available to tell it. ARAs are one of very few means that we have to reach our well-intentioned, but under-informed local populations and leaders. We ask that you have the mindset that ARAs are
part of your Team. Know and Use your ARAs!
Regional/Mission Support Command coordinators provide administrative support to and oversight of their respective
regional Ambassadors.
To contact your Army Reserve Ambassador, visit the AR website on the Featured tab at: http://www.usar.army.mil or by calling their
respective coordinator listed above.
